ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനമായ കർണാടകയിലെ ദക്ഷിണ കന്നഡ ജില്ലയിലെ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്ര നഗരമാണ് കട്ടീൽ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ കടീലു . ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പവിത്രമായ ഹിന്ദു ക്ഷേത്ര നഗരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഇത് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു . നന്ദിനി നദിയുടെ തീരത്താണ് ഇത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. തുളുവിൽ 'കതി' എന്നാൽ 'കേന്ദ്രം' എന്നാണ് . നദിയുടെ ഉത്ഭവസ്ഥാനമായ കനകഗിരിക്കും നദി കടലിൽ ചേരുന്ന പാവഞ്ഞേയ്ക്കും ഇടയിലാണ് കട്ടീൽ. 'ഇള' എന്നാൽ പ്രദേശം (ഭൂമി) എന്നാണർത്ഥം, അതിനാൽ ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ 'കടി + ള്ള', കടീൽ എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു.
Situated towards east of Mangaluru in Kateel is the Durga Parameshwari Temple, located on an island in Nandini river. The temple dedicated to oddess Durga Parameshwari is in the form of an Udhbhava Moorthi (naturally formed). The pillars of the temple also has beautiful sculptures.
History: Demon Arunasura secures special powers from Lord Brahma that no two or four legged creatures can kill him. With this power Arunasura wreaks havoc on earth and no one is able to stop him. Goddess Durga descends on earth to confront Arunasura. Upon being chased, Goddess Durga turns herself into a rock. Arunasura attempts to crush the rock, during which an army of bees emerge, stinging Aunasura to death. (bees were neither two legged, nor four, hence could override special powers of Arunasura). To celebrate this victory sages and saints on earth performed special pujas and established the Durga Parameshwari Temple in Kateelu.
Brahmakalashotsava is the annual festival of Kateelu Durgaparameshwari Temple. This celebration usually falls in January-February months.
Places to visit near Kateelu the Temple: Sasihithlu Beach (17 kms), Udupi Srikrishna Temple (40 kms), Malpe Beach (47 kms) and Kapu Lighthouse (30 kms) are nearby attractions.
How to reach Kateelu theTemple: Kateelu is 25 kms from Mangaluru and 370 kms from Bengaluru. Mangaluru is the nearest airport and railway station. Regular buses are available from Mangaluru to reach Kateelu.
Places to stay near Kateelu Durga Parameshwari Temple: Kateelu town has basic accommodations. More stay options are available in Mangaluru city (25 kms away)
