- The Hot Mix 5 were a group of DJ's originally consisting of Scott "Smokin" Silz, Kenny "Jammin" Jason, Farley "Funkin" Keith, Mickey "Mixin" Oliver and Ralphi "Rockin" Rosario. They were to be called the Hot Mix 6 but Jeff Davis failed to show up for his interview. They started with a radio show on WBMX called Hot Mix Dance Party. The three primary members involved with the label were Mickey "Mixin" Oliver, Kenny "Jammin" Jason and Ralphi Rosario.
When Hot Mix 5 was formed in 1981 on radio station WBMX (now WVAZ), Rosario, the youngest member of the group, was still in high school. The Hot Mix 5 went on to become one of the leading forces in the early Chicago house music scene.
Like other members of the group, Rosario eventually branched out into music production and remixing. His first release, made in collaboration with Vince Lawrence, was "Sample That!" in 1986 under the name Bang Orchestra. In 1987, his collaboration with Xaviera Gold, "You Used to Hold Me", became a big hit for Rosario that was subsequently remixed and re-released several times.
I still remember that I sat down at 10 at night to record my cassettes with the mixes of the whole night
I still have most of my mix tapes 😁 a couple of my favorites are missing 😒😒
Me too!
That was so cool, only Chicago kids were doing that first. It was so cool
I used to always record Friday night jams also Saturday night live ain't no job Chicago dance party every Saturday night. I want to have a 120 minute tapes and I will go down to Rush Street and cruise with my friends and we will chill checking out the ladies....
Man if I could turn back the hands of time and I was younger I would be jamming in my ride and checking out the ladies on Rush street bumping the sounds having a police tell me to turn my easy tone radio down.
I remember being stuck on Rush street traffic.and every car on that strip was playing house music ad we would.jump out and start dancing
Wow! this takes me back, way back in time, to the hood, 26th Street Little Village, cruising in shiny low raider cars listening to WBMX hot mixes. For me the best of times. !!! 🤗 Great mix, thank you for the memories!! 🙏

Whoa 😮👍🏼😁💃🏻🕺🏼
WOW!
This was not 1983!!! Some of the songs played in the mix did not come out until after 1983.
I was gonna say… I remember this mix and I wasn’t listening really until 84 or 85
I think this came out in 1984 rather than 1983.
Felander , WHITNEY YOUNG 1986!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was this mix really recorded in 1987?
Cant be........must be around 83, 84?
@@jakeem0 That is what I thought. The most recent record that I recognized in the mix was from 83 and unless it was some kind of tribute or oldies show why would he be playing records from 83 when Chicago was going nuts about house music?
@@garrygalloway5043 thanks for the heads up, sometimes these dates from the tapes are messed up, I've changed the date :)
Rock the Box came out in 1985...
