Houston, TX During their Paradise Lost Tour. Everyone kept chanting "Odyssey" over and over again at the end of their set and pretty much all together -- the band had a huge eye roll, plugged some of the gear back in and played it. PANTY DROPPER!
24:34 Odysseus's bow was a palintonos bow - a type of reflex bow that required incredible strength to string. He needed to have the bow fully extended to give it the velocity needed to fire an arrow perfectly through the groove of 12 Axe heads lined up one after another. ...of course after he did so; he shot every other suitor vying for his widow's hand. sucks to be them.
Just a note on the 20 year journey - Odysseus spent 10 years in the Trojan war, and the odyssey describes his decade long journey getting from Troy to Ithaca directly after the war. While he’s gone, he’s assumed dead, and when he comes back he basically has to fight for the hand of his queen again. The “not able to string the bow” part is because the queen demands all her suitors to use Odysseus old bow in the archery competition. He’s apparently the only buff daddy who’s able to string it. Once he wins, he’s like “yo bitches, it me!” and proceeds to kill everyone who helped the suitors coming for his wife. Awesome job discussing this dudes!
I listened to this album, and in particular this track when busily painting a WH40k army back in the day. I have to guess something in the region of 65 times.....at least. Brilliant.
I really liked the part with the eye where the rhythm is very simple, and he plays a really heavy ass riff.I like all the parts in this song, but this is my favorite
I actually enjoyed it a lot. Good music and funny, enthusiastic, genuine reactions with something to say. So this was not your typical reaction video and I applaud you for that.
Levi Clay no they're not. RUclips doesn't pay for reaction videos. They don't pay if you're using other people's work. I've had this discussion with a couple of the prominent reactors - they get no money for them.
Ted Kord that’s anecdotal evidence and means nothing. Let me give you an example.... I’ve spoken to many prominent reaction channels, they make a killing. There, back to square one. Now let’s throw the anecdotal evidence out the way, and talk from personal experience. I’m a RUclipsr. I make a little bit of cash every month. I know the ins and outs of how RUclips and monetisation works. I had the option to monetise this video. I also had the option to monetise the satirical reaction I did a couple of years ago. It actually was monetised for 24 hours as all my videos are automatically monetised and I forgot to turn it off. Ads were shown. Money was made.
Levi Clay youtube can't tell as soon as your video is published if it's infringing. You can set it to monetize, but as soon as they find out, it's stopped and you don't get the money from the ads. You realize your using anecdotal evidence, too. I'm using RUclips's actual rules - you can't monetize reactions to others work. Can I guarantee nothing has ever slipped through the cracks? Of course not, but it's the exception, not the rule.
Show me where it says that in youtube's "actual rules" You're not allowed to infringe on someone else's copyright. Reaction videos skirt a grey line where they pass themselves off as comment, criticism, and remixing. These are all protected examples of fair use under US law. In fact, H3H3 literally won a lawsuit where they defended their legal right to react to footage of Matt Hoss. End discussion, the US courts have deemed reaction videos "fair use". Now, did they deem ALL reaction videos fair use? No, not at all. Ethan added a LOT of comment and criticism to his video and it wasn't using ALL of Matt's video. Does this matter? Yes and no. You see, while I don't think for a second using a full track and talking over it is "fair use", the youtube appeals system acts as follows: Upload reaction content owner files DMCA content pulled uploader counters DMCA takedown with fair use content owner is provided with uploader's details so they can file a lawsuit for copyright infringement. content owner doesn't bother because it's going to cost them $50k just to reach discovery, and even then there's legal precedent that goes against their position. I could forsee the whole thing costing them $200k to fight. That's literally what the sargon vs akilah case that's happening right now is doing (and almost every impartial lawyer I've watched says that she won't win).... so it's EXTREMELY rare for content owners to fight it. I'm sorry, you're talking out of your ass.
I always tended to defend those reactors a little bit because they also introduce music to people who otherwise wouldn't have heard of those bands which especially might be helpful for smaller unknown bands, but on the other hand most of the reactors do only the big known bands anway. (I tried to have some of them react to my instrumental project, but only one of them actually did :D)
My default reaction to that (no pun intended) is that if you need some guy making ad revenue on someone else’s music as a way of hearing new music... I can’t help but think you just don’t love music. I’m not watching reaction channels... because I’m too busy listening to music I love and finding more of it.
Levi Clay Well I totally agree with you, I just thought there has to be a reason why so many people watch them. It makes me sad seeing them having ten or even hundreds of thousands of subscribers while nobody gives a shit about other channels with original content or music. Also yeah since most of them as I said only react to the big acts anyway the reasoning for discovering new music fades away quickly. I still love the 'old school' way of clicking through bandcamp and discover awesome stuff over there. (love that platform) Cheers, Lukas
@@LeviClay so I originally wasn't going to comment on the reaction thing but I definitely have a different take and am curious on your thoughts. I traditionally find all my own music through exploration and buy the songs and albums I like to support the artist. However I do love reaction channels especially from musicians vocalists in particular that explore the techniques and how to execute them. I'm predominantly a guitarist but I've started diving into vocals more and the vocalist reactions and explanations of techniques has improved my vocals immensely. Just kind of curious as to your thoughts of using vocal reactions/analysis of your favorite songs to learn more about executing that type of music.
Someone did actually do a reaction to my reaction to someone’s reaction. We were trying to use satire to make a point but were met with “leave him alone. I like his reaction videos”....
I am really old...I hear things in the vocal arrangements that go back to the 70’s/ early 80’s . I could be way off here, but many of the harmonies remind me of Styx... The lead singer sounds like Tommy Shaw... How about combining it the album club, where you each play 2-3 songs for each other to listen to. That way we all get to hear a little representation of the music. You two can share you views and reactions as you are listening. Good video.
In all honesty? It’s a copyright issue. This was a big risk as it could have gone one of two three ways. No action from the label (no problem for me as it’s not monetised anyway). Claimed by the label and monetised (they get money), claimed by the label and pulled (I get a copyright strike... 3 strikes and you’re out).
Dramatic? It's a mythology 'facepalms'. «Odysseus himself was the only one who was able to strain his bow … he beat his competitors and regained his wife after his long absence due to the Trojan War." That's a quick google search. Weird reaction. And yes, it's a reaction. Don't try to hide or justify it.
@@LeviClay Which part are you referring to? That it's dramatic? Yes of course it is, it's a mythology! Having the opinion that it's too dramatic is just silly (the part is taken straight from the mythology). It's like saying you think water is a little too wet.

I saw them play this in its entirety as the curtain call for the Paradise Lost album, it was one of the coolest things I have ever heard live.
OMG, how ancient do I feel when a track from 2002 is described as 'old'
I feel you man...
How does 17 years ago sound?
One of the best songs of all time (from one of the best groups of all time). Thank you for your analysis/reaction. The Divine Wings...coming soon? :D
