What is pleasing is subjective, however it was written as a show off piece, it was never meant for anything more than "sure I can play lot's of notes very quickly if I want." Morton wrote plenty of "pleasing" pieces that are much slower and soulful if that's what you want.
Dick Hyman also made some amazing, funky, electronic music..One foot in the future, one in the past.
