It was 100% an intentional design choice, designed to make the fight feel extremely claustrophobic, like you're cornered and have no where to go :) Metroid Fusion has a lot of little subtle things like this designed to enhance the terror in the given situation.

True it’s gasping for air with its face melting off... of course this is an incomplete x parasite copy of the original. The original was in other m and it was basically a infant alien that was tortured into insanity. It’s really sad actually.
@@devilhunterradio8395 This guy, Ridley, and the spider are the hardest bosses in game. Try a no pickup run. Once his face is out this fight gets brutal. You can take 1 ram from him, and he is gimmicky on if he will actually stop flying around trying to ram you.
The game is rated E for Everyone. But really, do you think a scary copy of the main character, a boss who has it's face turn and ooze to jelly, and the game's creepy OST would make this game E for Everyone? I don't think so!
This guy gave me some trouble. Turns out, once he turns up the gravity, your charge beam isn't affected by it, which makes it a lot easier to not take massive damage during the first phase of the battle. Although the second phase is pretty frustrating the ~8th damn time trying to avoid him running into you.
GeddyMX Protip, hang on the side of the wall and just blast missiles at his face like crazy, cuts down on the amount of times he chases ya :p Also, he does chase, so you can somewhat control where he goes by moving in certain patterns.
I just jump and run in a clockwise circle. After, say, one lap, as soon as he comes downward near the right wall, I jump on the ladder. He always stops just before hitting the ground, so I can unload charge shot + missiles into him. Although, it seems that if I don't lure him to the middle of the room from the right side, he keeps chasing you.
This boss is 100% nightmare fuel, now if you wanna see the one from Other M go right ahead, don't say I didn't warn you, but to be honest when it comes to the one from Other M, it's not as creepy as this one is... The one from Other M looks more like a baby doll and sounds like one, this one is just... Blechh creepy! Cudos to Nintendo though! :D
That one is more of a baby alien (possibly a sapient algal colony) who was brutally tortured into complete insanity... it’s reasoning abilities destroyed to the point where it’s just pure agony lashing out at everything around it... it’s so sad because it’s so true to life the way it suffers. They way it cries like a dying infant... it’s not evil... it’s a victim of the galactic federation... who actually is copycatting the space pirates now.
This boss really forces you to get good with the movement. When he flies around all frantically, you can bait him into going one way, then run to the opposite direction. You also gotta aim well here. Get a good angle, then blast as many missiles into him as you can. When he's using his gravity move, I recommend using the charge shot (it's unaffected by gravity unlike the missles).
How to defeat Nightmare: 1. Use charged shot only 2. When gravity machine activated by the creature, use charged shot. 3. When gravity machine dismantled, use missiles on Nightmare. 4. When defeating the abomination, X-Core appears, and perform the same strategy when destroying the X-Cores, like the previous ones.
The artistry in how creepy and scary this boss can be lies on its face... at first it is expressionless, you can even see that it might have a stitched mouth. after a couple shots and its eyes blowout and a green mucus-like goo starts to leak...a couple more shots leads to more of the goo to flow. then after the generator blows out, his face busts into a mangled mess which only melts horrifically with the increasing abuse....the guys really hit a home run with this one.
KalibreSteelblast I think they took it before destroy the Bottle Ship. At the end of Other M, Samus sais that the GF decided to destroy the Bottle Ship, so they went to see what could be useful, and they took the rests of Nightmare. The same they did with Ridley, there is a scene in Other M the when Samus finds him dead. I know it because you find Ridley in Metroid Fusion exactly as it died in Other M. They took both to another research station (B.S.L). They got copied by the X parasite, that´s why they are alive.

A hint of advice, use the charge shot for the first section and then when his face armor falls off pump him full of missiles. In this game the beam weapons are your strongest tools, they annihilate everything they touch especially if you charge them up. If you can get the Ice Beam outside of the last boss area it can one shot many enemies.

The nightmare from Other M was the same nightmare. They sent the dead Nightmare from Bottle Ship to the B.S.L station. If you go to the place where you vs Nightmare post game, you would notice that his body is gone.
Not to mention the first copies of Zelda Ocarina of Time actually had Ganondorf coughing up blood when he is first defeated, as well as when Link stabbed his forehead as he lunged forward in Ganon form.
Nightmare was more ferocious in Other M, but not as strong as his Fusion version.
He was like a rampaging monster in Other M. In Fusion, he acts like a floating machine shooting blasts at you.
The attack angle for this boss was what made it difficult.
The most eerie bossmusic in the Metroid-universe.
