For the record, simplewall isn't a standalone firewall, it's a front-end to the WFP (Windows Filtering Platform), and thus requires the Windows Firewall service to be running (a "true" firewall will disable WFP and run its own service). Even so, it makes it a _lot_ easier to configure the WFP than to use the Windows Firewall interface built into Windows. Another option similar to simplewall is TinyWall, which is simpler than simplewall but almost as powerful. (Both work on Windows 7.)
love your videos :) I was on pop OS for quite a long time because of you and I loved it. But for some reason (this IT industry love using windows) I installed windows yesterday. Now my request to you is that please continue making videos on Windows 10 too like this one and the bloatware removal one. And can you make a video on top essential software for windows 10, it'll be nice to know what apps you use, anyways keep up the good work.
BOOO!! LOL don't ever install windows. learn what you can and help windows users to fix their systems. But our systems should always be Linux. Just because the IT industry likes using windows, does not mean you have to, it's an OS built for the enduser, not for the ITP. But then again it's personal preference I guess, plus privacy and security concerns.
Does it have a ‘block all new programs by default’ option? This would be useful for the average user who doesn’t want to block system functions, but only those programs that he downloads after a fresh installation of Windows. Thanks.
Thanks for the laughs and the wonderful tutorial. After comodo firewall became bloatware, was searching for an alternative. This firewall is very lightweight. More people should be made aware of such software.
I really like to see this kind of tools. It makes windows a way better option as an os. Maybe it would be helpfull to see a guide on which standard windows and main stream processes should blocked in most cases.
Love the new in-studio look, Chris. Well done. Simplewall for Windows 7... is it adaptable, or have you abandoned W7 entirely? I'm still dual booting 5% Windows 7/95% Linux and sharing 4Ts of stored W7 NTFS files with Linux. I'd like to cut the cord. Is Windows DNA permanently embedded in our psyche?
Hehe yeah I've pretty much abandoned it at this point. Even with me using Linux 99% of the time for the past year and half, I still have that Windows DNA and things I always come back to in it. I don't think I'll ever be able to completely erase it from my psyche as I simply used it for most of my life.
Simplewall just seems to be a newer version of Sygate Personal Firewall from back in Windows XP days. Windows has always needed the user to really take control of their communication especially since Microsoft has moved more to spyware just to use the Windows 7, 8, and 10 operating systems (with updates).
It's using only Windows Filtering Platform, so no, it's not more powerful than everything on Windows. It's just other use of this library. Personally I love to play with WFP, there is so much stuff to do.

Thanks for posting this video! Simplewall looks amazing. I'll definitely have to check it out. With regard to Windows 10, specifically, what do you dislike about its built-in firewall? Thanks again for posting!
Since I use Linux only?....I don't really have to worry about what services Windows 10 is running. Seeing as how the one VM I have running Windows is easily deleted and re-created when I need it to be. But interesting video none-the-less!
How about a walk threw of what each thing is and what it is used for with a full OEM install of windows? This way dumb newbies like me know what we are blocking or not blocking.
Can you do a Ubuntu, Manjaro, and Fedora version of firewall that is like simple wall? We know that Ubuntu is the devil knowing which services do we allow and not allow for new/already users.
Yeah I'll do a basic setup using UFW and GUFW for newbies. You have much greater control no matter what Linux distro you are using. As you can pretty much shutdown any service.
Live stream on Friday at 9 AM CST (www.twitch.tv/christitustech) will be the official trial run with me installing it on bare metal. Attempted to run it in a VM but it really didn't like that. So RUclips videos will be sometime next week.

I want to know if you can use Simplewall whilst having Kaspersky Total Security installed on your system. I also can't seem to find (along with everyone else interested in Simplewall) any online tutorials or instructions for dummies on how to use it without disabling everything and crashing your system! I know it's supposed to be aimed at advanced users, but how will dummies gain knowledge unless we have help with these programmes and progress along the path to "advanced users". Basically I want to prevent "Windows Update service" and it's big brother "Windows Update Medic Service" from accessing the internet when I don't wish to download or install any updates that I do not want on my system. I would like to just use Kaspersky for this, but as yet I have not found a way (as shown in the above video using Simplewall) to do this. Will Simplewall conflict with Kaspersky's Firewall? Help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Here would be my solution to your problem. Grab another hardware network card. Pass the hardware to the VM and Windows won't have access but your VM will. I subscribe to the KISS principle and this would be the best solution and only set you back about $10.
