I always hate how Emongg's chat always says stuff like: "No way this is diamond" or "Must be a console player" or "I'm better than this guy and I'm plat"
Maybe if they watched their own gameplay once in a while then they would realise how many mistakes they make themselves and stop being so critical. Only 12% of players are in diamond, so the guy must have done something right to get there.

I'm always curious to see a player like this in a gold lobby. You can get away with stuff at a low level that you can't in higher ranks, I'm sure this guy is avoiding a lot of it.

I think there is a misconception that tanks in Overwatch are like tanks in an MMO. Like you have a taunt to force the enemy to attack you and you’re there to absorb all the damage. So many dps will get themselves killed being out of position or playing as though the enemy can’t shoot them because they have a tank.
It’s frustrating on healers too, I killed myself way too many times trying to save a dps that refused to put any thought into how they could stay alive. I think my play started improving when I just accepted that they killed the themselves and it’s better for me to just stay safe and stay alive.

Back in the pre-ow2 days it was a rumour that tank was going to be renamed to "brawler", and I wonder if that might help nowadays to help people realize the difference, like you mention

He played actually really good. Sometimes he takes high ground and the whole doesn’t and they fall over. (I kinda feel that, because I am in gold and they all blame u as tank, even if they 1-8 and you 10-3; just ignore what they say, they are in the same rank as you)I feel like sometimes he can move a bit more and change positioning.

Bro this was my exact last game before I quit. Sigma, this map on first point, the whole shebang. I'd go high ground, ping enemies that were low, and try to make space while playing around cover and the cart, yet I'd get dps that would over extend, or supports that were frontlining when they were not supposed to. I and enemy tank had matching mitigation, I was always pushing everyone around and making space, yet no follow up cos everyone is dead while I was brawling. Infuriating af

"Sometimes he takes high ground and the whole doesn’t and they fall over."
So like, yeah the sigma has a good idea of what the right positioning is, but the thing is that it's situational.
If your entire team is playing a bad position you just have to play with them, and do your best to try to salvage the situation. Should they be where you are? Sure. Are they stupid? Sure. Are you dying on a hill that's not helping you win that game? Also yes.
Learning how to compensate for your team being idiots is a part of ranking up, and recognizing where your team is positioned/how they're playing is an important skill as well even if they're not making dumb mistakes since sometimes even as a tank you'll have to play around what your team is doing rather than the other way around.

I don't care if youre playing with a Rein, Sig, Winston or even Ramattra. It's not your tanks job to make sure the shield is for you 99% of the time. They also shouldn't have to tell you when it breaks, you can literally see it. So when it's cracking, don't stand in the open and wait to get shot just to blame the tank.
I think they played a good Sig here. Sure, small mistakes here and there but who of us makes no mistakes at all? No idea what the team was yapping about

@@johnsonspark171 i agree. i got master on tank a couple of times, never made past diamond on DPS. but on support i hit GM at least 10 different seasons in OW1 and OW2. easy, brain dead role. was top 500 a few times. ana can 1v1 any DPS up close and come out on top more often than not. zen can clear out entire team with ball spam down a hallway. lucio can throw an entire team off a map in one ability. etc.

That little tip about knowing where your team is is something that I really need to start doing. Not even just to know when I can push up, but also to realize when my team is dead. I have a problem where I don't even realize that my team's actually died, so I end up pushing up and using ult only to turn around and see my entire team is dead.

Damn had the dps accuse me of "chasing players around and not staying on point" and in the same breath "not pushing W", as a sigma. Wasted >50% of my shields blocking widow sight lines as she kept killing my out of place DPS/supports. Our sombra couldn't hack it so they played "blame the tank" at the end. Our DPS went 9-16 and 13-9 as Mei/Sombra. As a veteran of this game, I have no idea how they could die so many times on those characters, other than of course being out of position, playing poorly, and picked off by the widow...
Could I have played better at times? Sure. But blaming the tank is just a cop out for taking some responsibility for their own game play. And the fact I did more damage/elims than both of them combined (granted, with a pocket LW) should give them some indication it wasn't solely the tanks fault...

The comment about checking what your teammates are up to behind/around you is good. I got flamed playing my second ranked game on Mauga for poor positioning on Havana. I'm gold, and I did overextend, but after fights we win, I want to aggressively push and take map control so the enemy team has to push into us. Instead, everyone just stands on cart and concedes high ground or doesn't hunt for staggers. Like, I feel taking map control on attack with one person pushing cart is better than 3 people on cart and we make it easy for the enemy team to re-contest. Am I wrong? I would be fine if a couple people made that read and got a little heals and DPS.
Like, I feel like DPS and Supports are entitled and don't think they have to adjust how they play, counter, or switch to better synergize with me to maybe make my job a little easier. They just expect MTD, and when it doesn't happen, it's somehow solely the tank's fault.

Bro this is how I feel with my friends playing ranked. I play as tank (usually sigma or Winston) and my friends bitch and complain that I’m never being their human meat shield. They play as bastion and stand out in the open then get killed. Like bro you know what’s more safe than a human meat shield? A wall.
For example, I was playing on Gibraltar which is the best dive map in the game. I play as Winston and start attacking squishes. The enemy tank is by himself defending point meanwhile I had already killed both healers and almost the enemy Ashe.
Then my teammates are like “what are you doing bro we are going to die switch and go mauga or hog”
I didn’t switch but we got smoked the rest of the game. I went 13-2 meanwhile my dps and support had less kills than me COMBINED but I got blamed because I was playing for myself and not sticking with the team

Metal rank here. good luck getting your team to follow the tank down here. 😅 i literally be waiting on my team pinging the area. Group up etc. And i just see them run down main into a bastion, torb, orisa comp just feeding through the choke. My dps literally will say "no" to the group ping. And then I see "where's our tank" "tank throwing" "report our tank " in text chat. Tank is a wonderful experience 😀

  • @DrKoala-

Now I’m only Masters. So I could be wrong.
I don’t think the Sigma played particularly bad but it wasn’t as great as others in the comment or Emongg make it seem.
His shields were a bit bad. Sigma gameplay isn’t about constantly protecting teammates which I agree with Emongg. But as Sigma, you want to be repositioning his shield often. Blocking key damage or abilities. Often times he placed it in front of him and forgot about it. At times he would walk past it and not recall it till he was in the middle of the enemy team.
Don’t think he played passive. Just slow. Felt like it took a second or two to decide what to do next. Like he was playing underwater. To a higher rank this could look like someone playing passive but I think for him it was fine. The shield was the biggest thing. But I don’t think he is to blame for the lost game. He played average.

    - Mechanics... don't listen to the youtubers, it's very important. I ranked up from low gold to high plat just from improving mechanics. No offense but you got maybe 2 final blows on defense, work on hitting those shots. Warm up with VAXTA and/or playing some cass in qp before queuing.
    - Ability usage. Actually this was pretty good, good use of shield and succ, but again make sure you're lining up those rocks and using them to deny engagement rather than just like a glorified soldier rockets.
    - Positioning. Abysmal on points 1 and 2, better on point 3 but still if you're gonna take more aggressive positioning you need the aim to back it up. If you're standing in the same spot shooting at their team for 30secs and have gotten no kills, swap where you're standing. Just start there. Your strong point is playing cover, keep doing that! You need to be more dynamic though because if you arent able to just play into a simple corridor you get rolled. I recommend spilo's positioning guide, it helped me sooooo much!

He also looks confused the entire game and can never focus on a single target. Shoots someone and then moves to the next. It just looks like the guy is tired and needs a bit of a wake-up just so they can react faster and focus on what's going on around them.
