Hopefully this helps anyone wanting to get into playing the many wonderful and great mods that the Half Life 2 community has created!
To my subs: For as long as I had this channel I have always wanted to make Half Life 2 related content and hopefully this is a good start to begin there. Hopefully I'll be able to make more Half Life related content in the future.

When your mods don’t show up in your library even though they are in your sourcemods folder and you have all the SDK bases along with all the Half-Life games. *;)*

EDIT: One year after posting this, I found out that this Method DOES WORK, it’s just that many mods are broken due to the source updates and they no longer are able to make the mods playable.
restart your steam after putting your mod into the sourcemods folder

@@willhelmii4560 worked for me, remember to have the specific half life/any other source game installed in the first place (for me i required hl2 ep2 but i installed hl, ep1 and ep 2) and you also, like in the video, require some of the source SDKs
@@Ribbon46 have all the sdk's installed and HL2, still doesn't show up
yeah the source mods folder isnt even in my steam

In 2020, you'll need to alter the Library filter (at the top of the left hand of your Library view), it might just say 'GAMES'.
Click 'GAMES' to expand and check and check 'TOOLS'. Now you'll see all the extra crap you can install including the Source SDK packages.

i think what you have to do is make sure that you are on your main hard drive.

TOOLS HAS MOVED. You'll find it now under Libarary, in the dropdown menu for Games.
I watched it, didn't work, got mad, thought the tutorial was outdated, waited a week, checked the MOD'S folder, found the README message, found out I need to set the source SDK beta to upcoming, apolagized for yelling at phone, realized I'm dumb

It's easier to install desura then it will do the job for you.
Nice job making it short though, I hate tutorials when a half minute task is explained in 20 minutes.
I've used Desura in the past and sometimes it may not comply. This is just the general/manual way to do it.

they aren't loading for me
@@moofishisaac make sure you have half life 2, it's episodes, and the sdk bases, once you have those, install the mod and restart your steam and it should appear in your library and should be able to run as well, but if it crashes it could just things that source does, unless there is a solution to it.
@@isthisconcrete1340 I fixed it by playing half-life 2 then trying the mods again idk why that needed to happen

I have:
Bought Half Life 2 and its episodes
Downloaded SDK, SDK 06, 07, and 13 (Singleplayer)
Moved the extracted mod to the sourcemods folder
But nothing is working, what do I do? I exited steam but the mod wont show up.

I downloaded "The citizen" for Half life 2 and I cant find it in my library. Ive tried opening and closing steam and I extracted the file into sourcemods. What am I doing wrong?

right clik on the steam icon at the bottom of ur screen then clik on exit then rreopen
ok guys i fixed my problem, somehow, in my computer, I had 2 steam folders with the sama name, I had my files in the wrong on so when I dragged it to the second one it worked
if you have more than one steam library across different drives, you need to install it in the drive where steam has been originally installed

uhh, i installed the game in D: but steam is in C:, i need more specific directions unless i just plain go into C: and put it in sorcemods

To anyone following the process and getting issues, yes I am aware of Steampipe and yes I am aware of Desura. This is the manual method that is the best way to go and the steampipe update has naturally broke many mods, sadly I cannot fix this.
i don't have a file called sourcemods what am i doing wrong
+Azz strange, if one is not available you can simply create one in place of where it's supposed to be in. Title it just sourcemods, just as it is written and see if that works
does this work for the original half life as well? i want to get a mod of of the site, its called afraid of monsters
the hurgle channel Well the process is very similar except that you have to place it in your Half-Life folder. The directory is around steamapps/common/Half-Life and just drop it in the Half-Life folder. If you can find that directory then you are good to go! Enjoy!
