- Introducing a not bad recreation of Half Life 2 in Half Life 1!!!
I found a mod called Half Life 2 classic or something like that, And I thought I record it, and it was quite funny, because the Goldsrc engine cant't do many physics based things that the Source engine can. Also I was using a WON client of the game. I was using Sourceruns GoldSrc pack, which including All, HL1, HL1 WON, HL Opposing Force, HL Opposing Force WON, HL blue shift, (there is no WON version of Blue shift :( ) and Gunman chronicles, which I believe is a mod for Half Life, and that also has some WON additions to it. I was using Half Life WON, because I like to Bunny Hop, and Normal Half Life has a speed cap of around 544. But the WON client removes the cap and lets you Bhop at any speed.

People love hl2 of course. Nostalgia.
So the textures and some of the models are Source quality while the rest of the game is Gold Source quality.
Everything is made in goldsource, but the models and textures have been modified to look like they're from half life 2.

@@LamWarp Wait this was made with the original goldsrc engine and not the source remake on steam(im talking about the 2004 one not Black mesa). Bc if thats the case then this is basically half life 2 running on the quake engine which is even more impressive then a demake of hl2 in source.
Can we give the person who created this mod some recognition. Because he made a mod porting half life 2 to gold source and knew all the limitations.

Yes but it's so useless this mod... why porting a new game to an old engine that is inferior in all means. Still probs for making such a thing that's not easy.

I know half life source is supposed to suck other than the amazing ragdoll physics but I've gotten halfway through the game without any major problems so I've been confused....especially cus I'm running on a shitty laptop

Funny, but no, this is not how it works.
I think there would be lag, but not big amount of. (Because there are a lot of map loading screens, which are so close to one another that switch can run the game on at least a decent level)

This is actually very interesting. Funny how people are remaking half life 1 on a much better source engine while others are recreating hl2 on the older inferior source engine
There is beauty and art in optimizing things, which seems a bit lost in todays age with sloppy programming and relying too much on hardware. It is easy to cramp millions of polygons and put faith in hardware to push it, but having limited hardware and pushing it to its limits - now that is an artform!

I have to say, the striders just gliding motionless over the city is really creepy.
This is impressive considering the limitations of the GoldSource game engine as opposed to the Source engine (hl1 on GoldSource and hl2 on Source, but I think we all know that) and the fact that it could just run something similar to how big hl2 is impressive

You know I'm surprised they didn't use the Cry of Fear version of the Goldsrc Engine, they did code some stuff in such as changing the renderer to display neat skyboxes and such. But I guess they were going for as og low res as possible.

My dad once bought me a CD with Half-Life Chernobyl. It was crazy, but very atmospheric. Could never get past the reactor meltdown part, though, and the floor would always collapse under me. This reminded me of that TC.

I haven't played half life 2 in probably 15 years this makes me want to again. I don't remember it that well but it's cool as hell seeing the combine and guns half life 1 style.
Half life 2 was amazing in different ways but I do love the boxy look of 1. I was looking at black Mesa videos and it isn't the same. It's like a square body Chevrolet they will never match the look even if they make better upgraded stuff.

I find this very interesting, this mod shows very well how HL2 might have looked in it's very early development stages.
Does this actually run on GoldSrc or is it running on Half-Life Source?
You might find it interesting that there even is a Quake Map that recreates the beginning of HL2, it is a actualy a jokemap though.
You find it in the Aprils Folls Mapjam 2020 package, for example on Quaddicted.
It's running as a mod for half life, so it's on Goldsrc.

The ravenholm one was legitimately super impressive. I think if they manage to get all the models/textures into spec (since some of them are clearly just ripped straight from hl2) this mod will be pretty damn amazing if/when it all gets done. I'm honestly curious to what extent they'll be able to capture the aesthetic of hl2 as well.
