    Fabricating part of the stabilizer frame - it still needs cross braces and diagonal reinforcements which I can add after the band wheels and motors are on their place so I can check that everything clears everything. The lifting system / cut depth adjustment system is made from ATM Monkey (Honda Monkey clone) old sprockets and a 25 mm round stock. I will change the sprockets and chain for new ones in the future. The 25 mm round stock / shaft feels kinda flimsy so some kind of support in the center of it would be good or changing it to a bigger diameter shaft later on. But I will see if it's needed in the future. The hand crank is temporary, also the mount I made for it. It will sit on the cross brace when I get to reinforcing the frame. But now I will start fabricating the frame for band wheels and motors. Stay tuned for future videos! Thanks for watching!

      Cheers. Let's be honest - it's an old barn, I will upgrade it when I eventually get to doing that. But until then, you're right, it serves its purpose really well despite the worn look. I wish all men had their private corner to find refuge from. :D

    Looks like a great setup with the gearing to lift the weight it will eventually hold.
    Looks like the cable anchor points (lollipops) could be closer together so the cables will not be on the angle they’re on when the carriage is lifted causing them to rub as they get wound up.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 лет назад +1

      Yup, you're right. Have to play around with it a little. Maybe change the cable anchor points up on the shaft and alter the direction of cable spooling. Or if the cable starts to chip away change to motorcycle chains.

    I enjoy watching your build. In your design you should hold the crank so that the weight of the lifted object won't fall back due to gravity,mind considering another gearing system that would stay put even after you release it. I'm sure you'll find ways. Thanks by the way, Great Build!,lookin' forward for more.

    The guide columns could be made of round pipe, to which the grating system was adapted. The metal cable is too in demand on that small diameter shaft, so a larger diameter drum was required. Good luck and like!

      There's no play in the bearings or in the shafts or anything. I've looked into that tick in the past but gave up on it and let it be.

    I wonder how difficult it might be to design/build/install a guide for the line kind of like what they have on baitcaster fishing reels? The guide moves side to side and the line passes through it so that it ensures a tight spiral around the spool.

    Oh to have the steel and toys to make smaller pieces out of big pieces. I have to say that if this is a first build then what comes next as your very clever. I don't think I could do as well and I have years of time in machine shops from building race cars and big boy toys. Very good so far, I can assume that your keeping a diary of sizes and bearing types/no., etc. I would use this saw when finished I do believe
