I always scrap out CRT screens & TVs, there's probably more than a pound of free (bare bright)copper in them and the larger ones have more! I also break up the low grade boards for copper bearing motors and aluminum heat sinks, and then there's coated wire. If you'd like to do some basic processing at your HQ, y'all can pull the brass off of plugs, locks, furniture hardware and plumbing, until you build up a bucketful, I do the same for electric switches and breakers, for the silver contacts, before processing them.
Mark Brown How is it going? How are you liking it? I'm thinking of starting a business and this seems like something I would like. Just don't know how much money I will need to start the business (like what is the indispensable things I need to have). So that is why I'm here doing some research.
Awesome way to get "people like me" to relate this type of cleanout work...We ran into hoarders once and we had to shovel the CRAP out of the basement.it was all soggy..wet..full of moisture..and animal waste..Thats the last time we agree to do something without seeing it....but the landlords or owners usually just want it done RIGHT NOW..so usually get more work by agreeing...i felt so flippin sick after that mess!@
I used to work on foreclosures. You should be calculating by cubic yards. 1 dishwasher= 1cyd. Looks like 18cyd @ $50 a yard= $900 bid about IMO. Funny we got the same number. Great videos keep it up
Yeah when he told me he said 20-30 cubic units. Don't really go by that just eye it up. I know what I can scrap and sell and for the most part what will cost a lot to dump. Also the washer dryer and fridge usually stay on the jobs I work on as permanent fixtures.
Love the info as I want to learn EVERYTHING I can so I won't have many hiccups just starting out. Thanks for help. Totally off subject but LOL you remind me of Dax Shepard.
Would be hard to do but prob the best thing is what you said. Looking at nothing you would keep. Be nice to have a place to burn wood take care of good amount of furniture. And a drop off for any recycle drop for plastics and glass. Donate as much as possible and cash in fully on scrap. Lightning up the dump load.
bro take those shelf brackets down and return them to home depot for store credit and buy tools and supplies. looks like they have price tags still on them
Tucker Upper yeah dude we were commercial fit outs, demoing office spaces, and building dental offices, heavy scrap in its day. Those little brackets that hold the shelf are like $4 each. Check it out. #acresofdiamonds in the rough.
You showed a trashout where a lot of clothing was in cllosets and wondered if you would consider donating to homeless or women's shelter or even thrift store ....good karma in donating verses just landfilling it
So what would be the best way to get a connect from the bank? like the guy you work with isn't with the bank but they work with him on the regular...is he gc (general contractor)? realtor? investor? thanks.....
The guys I work for work for real estate and REO companies. I started off by getting a LLC registered my business and all. On craigslist there is adds for REO contractors I answered one once and they followed up talked for awhile but I just kept getting work with the guys I got so no reason to go a different path. try looking at REO under general labor in your craigslist classifieds.
Have you considered or do you just put dumpster rentals on the property for these trash outs to set a fixed dumping fee? I believe most of the time they’re like $250-400
You are correct it’s hard to do business in NJ. This job would have to be like 3k to even make it worth it. I have learned a lot in the business but have moved on to other avenues. I never ended up doing this job.
It's not very hard to get the jobs go to your local home mortgage Office and ask. This work is not really worth it unless you can bid the jobs high though. Lots of trash and not much money when it's all said and done.
I have walked into several units where once a lady was sleeping in a lower bedroom, also a lady at another house setting up air mattress in living room and putting her stuff on fireplace mantle and another property where a guy was sleeping in the hallway on the third floor. This is why you must be careful n take your crew with you just in case if it looks shady!!!!!
I never clean the houses the most I've ever done is a sales sweep like make sure it's swept and spotless. To me the cleaning would be as much as the trash out so the price would be double, I am not a cleaning company by any means!

Thank's for the info. Question, do you need to be licensed and insured? Or as a subcontractor you don't need those requirements due to cleanout's offered through the business in which is contracted with the bank?
Looks like this job is all scrap life....DIdnt see anything that is worth selling really! I would keep in mind the cost of dumping costs cause this job is all dump life! If it was my job i would bid $1500 "atleast"!!....Minus the dump fees and if you hire a helper, you would make a cool crisp $1000.....Yeeewwwww for the boyzzz & Galzzz....LOL
you ever looked into a Ewaste recycler to take the tv to them we have a place that pays £50 a ton its not much but its better than you paying £50 a ton to dump it i strip the copper out put them in my front garden and some guys picks them up to recycle at Ewaste recycler saves me having to haul them about and here you need a minimum of a ton at a time #scraplife
Not only are you full of valuable information which as an entrepreneur I can appreciate but you also have a positive down to earth attitude. Thanks.

Thanks for outlining everything, the thought process, and examples. A video that actually HAD what I was looking for in it!
Thank you that actually means a lot because most people think this is a really easy job but there's so much that goes into it. 🤙
did this type of work for almost 10yrs been out for about 8yrs. found a lot of good shit. miss the work
good info Tucker for someone that wants to get in the business. If I could have 25 years back I would do it.
I just noticed, you deserve many many many more subs bro. Love you!

Tucker Upper yup I just use the dishwasher as a reference to measure cubic yards. Just wait til you get a fridge with mold and maggots to remove :D
Thanks for sharing thi info
There's a load of copper in them thar tv's... love the vids..keep the dream alive
Thanks man it's just a lot of processing but maybe I will do them.

Hello ray here from New York great watching ur video I am learning from u buddy take care
Thanks Ray appreciate it!
Great information shared however nothing was mentioned about a landfill fee for dumping? Did you use a dumpster?
Thanks

Useful items like the tables can be donated to a thrift store. If they do not want to sell it they can foot the trash cost
Yeah you're right goodwill not far away either.
Jessica Jones that's amazing! Brilliant idea

Tucker Upper hopefully this week😉putting the garden in and livin the dream!!!
Great video! That's very hard work! I've done it and I would do it again!
we used to do cleanouts for, fannie mae. hud and usda. board ups. winterizations. we made out like bandits!
Michael Cuff Fannie Mae is a pain in the butt, they always give follow ups on stupid things
Sweet hope you get it!!1 I am working on getting my business license to start doing this! cant wait
Yeah it's worth it for sure easy to set up.
what kind of insurance companies do I call that will cover this type of business?
Thank you
Keep use posted and good luck
Thanks Jess!
That how it is we did Escavating like that if we run into rock it was on top of what we did
Is it clean out as get rid of the stuff or does it mean you actually clean floors, wipe surfaces, windows, etc., making it ready to move in nice?
No deep cleaning is involved unless otherwise asked. The clean outs/trash outs are just the removal of all the items in the house or building.
You showed a trashout where a lot of clothing was in cllosets and wondered if you would consider donating to homeless or women's shelter or even thrift store ....good karma in donating verses just landfilling it
Yeah I agree thanks for the idea!

Do you have a NJ DEP License ? Good luck if you don't in new jersey garbage is very regulated
You are correct it’s hard to do business in NJ. This job would have to be like 3k to even make it worth it. I have learned a lot in the business but have moved on to other avenues. I never ended up doing this job.
Hey Tucker how do you get contacts at the banks that lead to this type of job?
It's not very hard to get the jobs go to your local home mortgage Office and ask. This work is not really worth it unless you can bid the jobs high though. Lots of trash and not much money when it's all said and done.
Very intresting, is that just trash out or also cleaning the place (vacum the floors, clean the bathrooms ect)?
I think it's always so scarey when you walk into a house and dont know what to expect. Or if someone is inside.
I have walked into several units where once a lady was sleeping in a lower bedroom, also a lady at another house setting up air mattress in living room and putting her stuff on fireplace mantle and another property where a guy was sleeping in the hallway on the third floor. keep life LOLOL love the terminaligies bro funny
All keep life yew!
I just have a question for you first time watching your video how do you get involved and started doing this because I'm very interested
Do you fix the plumbing also? Or just leave the leak?
Respect Gunit!!!! Boss
living the dream keep going yewww
What was the persiger you had to take to get started. Is it better too be a (sole proprietor, or LLC?)
We have always just had a limited liability company.
I like these educational videos. Might be a nice feature to add one each week. Do you ever have to sweep out or shopvac any of the rooms?
Never clean the rooms only pick up small items. I have swept garages but that's pretty much it.
Thanks homie.
Do you have videos where you show bid, approval, cleaning and check out?
How do you find the people, that need the work?
thanks this was good.
Hey tuck be careful of mold too with that leaky ass house mask up !!
Yeah I got mold masks that place is def foul.
I never thought of that for my future workers thank you
So 6 yrs layer what did they pay and did you get it
I never did this job and personally today i would charge at least $1,500 running a business in NJ is too expensive for the rates of 6 years ago.
Do you clean the house also? If not how much more would the bid be if you did. Including vacuum moping ect?
I never clean the houses the most I've ever done is a sales sweep like make sure it's swept and spotless. To me the cleaning would be as much as the trash out so the price would be double, I am not a cleaning company by any means!
Tucker Upper, Thanks for the reply. This video helps a lot and your others are cool also. Keep up the good work God Bless!
When you do a foreclosure like this will they expect you to fix the leak and will they expect you to make it move in ready???
Do you ever get the jobs to repair any problems ..like the leak in the bathroom and drywall
I do jobs like that but not for the banks.
So you look inside then put in bid?
You don’t have to get paid per cubic yard?
Hey did you get the approval for that job? Would like to see the progress! Great video!
Hey never got this one ! There's a ton of other foreclosure clean out videos on my channel though!

door knobs are usually brass, scraplife
How come the tvs are an issue? Isn't the copper inside worth it for you?
Do you fix the leak in the ceiling?
No I wouldn't fix that leak a contractor might come in and fix it or they would sell it as is!
Awesome
Where do you go to actually get foreclosures. I love down here in south Louisiana
I just saw a big blue plastic water bottle. Where I am you can get a deposit of $10 when you return it to the grocery store.
Never knew that I'll check that out.

so,the contractors that work with the banks pay you to clean them out?like a subcontractor?
Yeah pretty much. I submit a price to them and I'm assuming they add some money and when the bank pays them they pay me.
