The beauty of the ABB is that all the musicians played off of each other like no other band. They were a live band.
Dickey Betts' guitar style is unmistakable
Butch Trucks- uncle of great guitarist Derek Trucks, and Jaimoe, are the drummers! Burch played the trap drums, and Jaimoe, went back and forth between the traps, and percussion!
High falls has been my warm up song for bass for many years...Another Dickie Betts masterpiece..Chuck Level on keys was heaven sent...Thank you Jesus.
Yes ! Yes ! Yes ! Dickey Betts finest composition ! Well,in my opinion, and definitely one of the tracks I suggested you react to. This is such a cruisy, jazz, southern rock instrumental that just takes you away. As I mentioned in one of my comments, this has that Vince Guaraldi Trio "Linus and Lucy" (from Charlie Brown) vibe about it. It's a long but rewarding journey listening to this classic - well done. Oh - don't forget, there were 2 drummers on this, along with the late Lamar Williams phenomenal bass underpinning this.
You Don’t Love Me...from the Fillmore East Album...please ✌️
I haven't heard this song in a very long time. Maybe 20 yrs or more. Thanks for reaching in and pulling this out from deep in the memory bank!
Added to my playlist before this video was over
Another great instrumental by Dickey Betts. Pegasus is another good one by him.
Always loved the drumming in this song - and the vibe of indians charging into battle. Think you must know by now - but this is a two drummer band - and last 20 years or so they have added a third percussionist. This version of the band (this is probably around 1974) is mellower because of the death of the original guitarist Duane Allman - who brought a much harder drive to the band - and was replaced by the keyboardist - until later in time when they brought back a second guitarist.
No description on how beautiful this song is. Dickey wrote that main riff, heaven.
Don't know why, but it's an overlooked instrumental by the band. So glad you've discovered it!
The base leads this tune.berry was their bass player.a tribute to a brother.no words just love.
I love Old Before My Time, a later song from an ageing and ill written by Gregg Allman. Live performances of this song give me chills.
Wait...what??? You did a reaction to High Falls???!!!
I frickin' love this song! Magic time is right between dusk and twilight with a stiff drink. Beautiful.
You choose them right!
High falls Is the greatest instrumental the abb did after Duane
Great instrumental, one of my favorites! I suggested this- I'm happy to reacted to it☺
Brings tears to the eyes and goosebumps on your forearms.
Quite possibly the greatest instrumental imo
Oh and the live version is really great. I think it’s the 2003 Live At Beacon Theater. Well worth it my friend!!!
seeing these kind of Jams live with ABB will remain with me till i'm dandelion food!
nice pick young man.
This had me up and dancing a little cha cha cha this morning. Have a few memories attached to this song.
So True.....Soulshine is a must !! It was written by Warren Haynes, the title being his nickname from his father. Greg Allman and Haynes alternate verses and harmonize on the chorus. It sounds amazing. It also features Warren and Derek Trucks with guitar solos and then playing off each other. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!
Soulshine. Adivisive song. Either you love it or loathe it. Me no likee
I know Im asking randomly but does anybody know a trick to get back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the account password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@Jaziel Sage Instablaster ;)
@Wilder Fletcher Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Wilder Fletcher it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account!
My first time hearing this one i loved it great vibe
Allman Brothers alumni-
SEA LEVEL (jazz/blues/rock fusion)
The best band that no one has ever heard of.
Imagine if Steely Dan and the Allman Brothers Band would have had a baby. You would have gotten Sea Level. It was formed by 3 former members of the Allman Brothers Band, after ABB broke up. The bass player (Lamar Williams, RIP), drummer (Jaimoe, not Butch Trucks), and keyboardist (Chuck Leavell, the Rolling Stones main studio and touring keys player since 1982). They did heavily jazz/blues infused southern rock over 5 albums. Sadly, they never got the attention they deserved.
Stand out tracks include- "That's Your Secret", "Living In A Dream", "Shake A Leg", "Nothing Matters But The Fever", "Rain In Spain", "King Grand", "This Could Be The Worst", "It Hurts To Want It So Bad", “Grand Larceny”, “Scarborough Fair”, and "Had To Fall".
Tedeschi & Derek Trucks live 'Any Day's at the Clapton Crossroads in 2010 (I think ?) Is riveting .
Trucks can deal on that slide , and Susan Tedeschi' s vocals are seamless - along with the entire ensemble .
Their live at Bonnoroo has plenty of upside 5 star moments ...2014 me thinks .
'Any Day' written for Clapton/ Derek & The Dominoes .
High Falls is the quintessential Deep Cut classic. One of the great instrumentals by Dickey Betts. Most people have never even heard of this song, even if they like the Allman Bros. The 4 min keyboard solo by Chuck Leavell is sublime! Next time you're in the mood for another great Allman Bros instrumental, check out this one. "Instrumental Illness" performed live on stage. ruclips.net/video/Zoo4L5KR7cM/видео.html
Two drummers always.
Talk about a deep cut! Much less well-known than some of Dickey’s other great instrumentals, it’s always been a favorite of mine. One of the few songs that really showcases Jaimoe’s jazz-influenced drumming over Butch’s straight-ahead freight train, not to mention Chuck’s always wonderful keyboards. Easy to hear the beginnings of Sea Level in this tune
This is an interesting choice. Very mellow. Not a lot of peoples' favorite ABB song but very well done. To me this is probably the easiest to hear example of the dual drummers. There is a spot at 6:00 on this review where the drums absolutely follow the base note for note. Very cool. I've never heard it done better.
Soulshine is another great by the ABB.
You gotta listen to " Blue Sky" from Eat A Peach. The slide guitar is magical
I loved classical music (only) until I discovered this song. I Loved watching your expressions during Chuck Leavell's keyboard solo- a real high point, and your reactions at the end were- to me-- spot on. I'd suggest you check out some of the live versions (on youtube) from 1998 (the best) and 2000. I'll admit the keyboard parts don't rise to the studio album, but the group vibe is top notch. (I'd actuallyrecommend against the 2000 Live in teh Beacon Theater version-- this was released to meet a contract demand when Dickey wss having issues and about to be dumped in the band. Oh- I agree that this was Dickey Bett's masterpiece. It has a chill vibe, but still an unsettled bit of longing.
Jazz has my heart, because of rock band ABB!
Dickey loves this one. I think it was a pretty standard opener for Great Southern (Dickey's solo band) shows
An instrumental band at times. This is one of those gems. Listen to Nobody Knows. Studio ver. A Rokker☺
Allman brothers, outstanding choice/outstanding reaction! Music often copied/never duplicated. I think I had all the albums and wish I could have been to more of their live concert events. Well done 👍
Amazing song that came at the end of the first run of the ABB. Dickey Betts is an amazing musician/ songwriter. They got back together in the late 80s til Betts left the band in the early 90s. Chuck Leavell really shines here on keys as well. I've heard that Greg did his vocals from LA and wasn't really present during these sessions
Nice instrumental. Now try reacting to Weather Report’s Birdland. It will be enlightening and it is a tribute to Charlie Parker!
Another Great Instrumental by them is Les Brers In A Minor from Eat A Peach and Hot Lanta from the Fillmore East Album
I think most would consider this a pretty deep cut from this band. I'm a pretty serious ABB fan and I haven't listened to this one that much myself. Thanks for digging deep! Dicky Betts was the master at doing the instrumental compositions. You still haven't hit "Mountain Jam" (not a personal favorite but gets a lot of love from others), "Les Brers in A Minor" (a personal favorite), "True Gravity" and "Kind of Bird" were done in the later versions of the band along with Warren Haynes and are really good. The last, post-Dicky version of the band had mixed success with instrumentals, but the one they actually released on a studio album, "Instrumental Illness" is damned good too. Great reaction to a great band! I'm really enjoying watching you take this journey. Thanks!!
Then you need to listen to Warren Haynes Matt Abts, amazing drummer, and Allen Woody, bass for the Allman Brothers in the 90’s, band Gov’t Mule. Where’s My Mule would be a good one to start with off their first album.
Yeah, I think he'd love Gov't Mule and "Mule" would be a great start. Or "Thorazine Shuffle", "The Banks of the Deep End", "Bad Little Doggie", "Beautifully Broken", "About to Rage", "Railroad Boy", "Endless Parade" and so, so many more!!
Looking back on the post Duane years, I think The Brothers did exactly the right thing by leaving Dickey alone on guitar and adding Chuck on keys. This album is from that brief period in Brothers history where they only had one guitar in the band. This album also marked a sad time, as Chuck, Lamar, and Jaimoe would depart and form Sea Level, who I think you would really dig, and the band split for a while. Here's a good shot of Sea Level for you.....ruclips.net/video/hAKDRhUs1Uk/видео.html
Not sure if I've heard this before, but I enjoyed it. I was reminded of their other song "Ramblin' Man", which I believe you have not reacted to. It is the one I've heard the most and maybe you have heard it in movies or somewhere.
Greg, Dicky and two drummers equals traveling music! I don't know why but I'm always inspired on their instrumentals to get in my car and hit the road!
Saw this performed live December 1975 Nashville Tennessee. Unforgettable!
My favorite band! You have reacted to a lot so far, but have only scratched the surface. Enjoy the ride. After your studio version tour, do some live show aucostic like
Come On Into My Kitchen
Midnight Rider
Blue Sky
Excellent.
Chuck Leavell on electric piano
You might also want to react to Chuck Mangione’s Feels Do Good, or Children of Sanchez!
A much softer, less bluesier Post Duane Allman period of the ABB - this is a very underrated album and this is a great instrumental with a cherokee charging type vibe
You are welcome!
Check out Sea Level "Grand Larceny".
Check out the song Hand Picked off Dickey Betts' solo album, Richard Betts Highway Call ,15 minutes of the best pickin'
First for me. Enjoyed checking the eye lids for holes an fine tune with EQ
How about a reaction video to the opening track from Live at Fillmore East - Statesboro Blues? It includes some awesome slide work by Duane.
You need to do Statesboro Blues by The Allmans next.
The Allman Brothers Band - Duane's Tune (Dickey Betts) - Live ruclips.net/video/IFvYtelvnl0/видео.html
Another great choice . This is a great album too.
They have two drummers
If you like this style you’ll like Pegasus by the Allman Brothers
Not familiar with this song, but I love it!
Def need to listen to some from their last lineup with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks who you’ve heard from Tedesci Trucks band. Soulshine is a must!
Queensrÿche - Empire !!
I don't think the Allman Bros have made a bad song... Even if you don't like the style you have to appreciate the mucianship they put into every song. You should explore more of their live stuff and check out the Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks era of the band. It's all good...
2 drummers
Chuck levell is nasty new with the stones
IT TAKES BIG BALL TO WRITE AND PLAY AND INSTRUMENTAL.and to open or close a set.no m j. Here no beatle or stone or Dylan or lady gaga.or Madona or snupe or tupac.maybe some Winston .and miles .the train. That's it the train.from Juilliard.
DUDE YOU GOT THE WRONG TAKE ON WHIPPING POST.LISTEN TO THE LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST LP.AND PLAY THE REAL "WHIPPING POST". J.P.
SOULSHINE, you can't do ABB without this, it's just not appropriate. One of the best choruses ever.
