This sales film for the Bofors Recoilless Gun known as the Pvpj 1110 shows the maneuverable, simple-to-use nature of the piece and demonstrates how it is operated by a very small crew. The Pvpj 1110 (Pansarvärnspjäs 1110) is a Swedish 90 mm recoilless rifle. It is also widely known as Pv-1110. It entered service at the early 1960s and was phased out of service in the Swedish Army in the late 1990s after 1,600 had been produced. Some 300 weapons were transferred to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The Pvpj 1100 was typically towed by, or mounted on, a Pvpjtgb 9031 Volvo truck. From the late 1970s it has also been mounted on the Tgb 1111 and the Bv 2062 tracked carrier.
For Arctic warfare it could also be fitted to a pulka and pulled by two skiers.
The Pvpj 1110 is fitted with an optical sight and has an iron sight as backup.
The type was used by the Irish Army in towed form, and experimentally fitted to the chassis of a Comet tank in place of the turret.
Bofors AB is a Swedish arms manufacturing company. The name has been associated with the iron industry and artillery manufacturing for more than 350 years

I am so amazed that they brought a band out to the field to keep the soldiers company while they fight! Such nice music for them.
Yeah, the Happy String Orchestra to sell a 90mm gun. Didn't quite fit. Never happen today.
They did that until 19th century.
😂
You can get this same English narrator voice on Siri for you GPS. When he says "straight on!" I feel like I'm in the Royal Navy sailing into Scapa.
This is the type of weapon system I like. Cheap, relatively simple, cost-effective.
It really does impress with its low key but sturdy design.
A bazooka does the same...
But I like this gun.
It could have done better,
with some changes. (4 small changes)
@HappyandAtheist - True.
But bazookas can fire missiles that can fly longer, and is guided by computer.
Most of the time, the range does not matter, as with bazooka, You can hide quite well, until the target comes near You, or You can reach the target in secret.
Then again, there is bazooka like recileless guns, that weight much lesser than this.
Still, long barrell without any recoil,
is very good in aeroplanes,
and some used the same method.
@HappyandAtheist - So it is more of poltics, not of technical thing.
But when EMP hits, it hits to targets too...
Here is one good...

Although I am interested in weapons I am mainly watching these old movies for the delightful English accents. My current favorites include;
'the bottom of the shell is made of pahlaastic,"
"to counteract the reh-coil"
There are some narrated by Ronald Reagan!
People making voiceovers in this era went to special schools. We have variations of this in sweden. They are required to speak clearly due to the poor microphones at the time. Now people can just mumble and still be ledgible.
"Dear Santa. I've been a good boy this year, so........"
Santa, me too!!!! I know that I asked you for a 100mm Soviet anti-tank gun, but if the Elves haven't already made it, can I get one of these instead please. I promise not to shoot my eye out.😢
I happened to shoot few of these recoilless rifles; A carl gustaf M2 and M67. Regardless of its name, shooting one really shock your entire body and there's actually a limit on how much a person can shoot them per day before one developed concussion, internal bleeding (usually nose bleed but it can cause stroke) and permanent loss of hearing
The infomercial with it's upbeat music really makes it seem perfect. Thanks for the reality check.
WOW... That music really encapsulated the awesome power of this magnificent state of the art weapon.
Made me want to get up and march around while viewing the video.
When I watch these weapons sales videos I like to pretend I’m the despot ruler of some banana republic.
Love this as a piece of military history but smiled at the "six rounds per minute" when the squad on film were only carrying two!
Madam, is your old anti-tank weapon just not up to the job anymore? Try our new improved Bofors. Its special Pvpj 1110 formula comes in three flavours, and will erase those hard-to-reach tanks other anti-tank weapons just cannot touch.
😆
You probably dont care but does any of you know a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Parker Kaleb instablaster :)
@Colt Paxton i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Colt Paxton It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
The cinematography is so cool, almost looks like analyzing a 3D model.
Ok, I’m impressed at the use of the ball-n-socket suspension mount.
That was my maingun when i did my service in the Swedish army,1987-88. But it was mounted on a bandwagon.
We had them in the Irish Army, alongside the Gustav 84mm and the Gustav 9mm submachine gun you can see in the film. We gave them, the 90s, to Estonia a few years ago.
Did we not keep any? ATGM's are too expensive against MG nests or Tacticals with HMG's, this sort of weapon firing modern ammo out to 1K would be a perfect weapon for light Infantry.
There's one in display in Spike Island!
Also Sweden gave their 90 mm to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Most of the equipment for a brigade (of Swedish model 1977) to each of those countries was given.
The filmography on this is excellent.
I'm assuming they would have deployed this weapon in multiple teams...as an ambush weapon, it has merit, but against Soviet-style formations, it's not the *one* tank you have to worry about, but his 6~8 buddies with him. Not too mention the dedicated artillery support (at regiment strength or better) the attack formation has tasked to it.... I don't even want to imagine dragging that weapon thru an artillery-shattered landscape.
Cheap and easy to train with, 'cause I doubt the weapon's crew has a decent long-term survival rate...
In indo pakistan war 1971 indian army destroyed whole pakistani tank regiment with this type of a "SINGLE" jeep mounted gun so its damn "EFFECTIVE". This war is also known as battle of longewala. There's only 120 soldiers of india against 3000 soldiers of pakistan with a full tank regiment and 500 armoured and transport vehicles. But still indian soldiers fought with pak and won the battle. This storyis also on wikipidia with images.
Most of the Swedish equipment (I've seen) seems well thought out and well designed. Everything they build seems aimed at armies with limited budgets with low cost after purchase. Oddly enough Sweden doesn't stand out as a big arms exporter to the world. Even Canada sells more weapons than Sweden these days.
I don't think that at all....I work as a Volvo tech😕
The ironic thing is Sweden, aside from UN missions, hasn't seen warfare since the Napoleonic Wars. They were neutral during both World Wars. Yet they do sell weapons.
@@schizoidboy Incorrect. though most politicians don't want to talk about it, we fougth with NATO in Kosovo, Bosnia, Libya and Afghanistan as co-combatants. But the "no wars for 200 years" is a good sound bite.
Bofors was bought by BAe, so
@@lindahl01 Still under UN mandate though.
0:58 Holy crap! I wouldn't want to be the guy pushing that loaded weapon over rough terrain while staring straight into the launch tube nozzle.
That's why you usually never moved this while it was loaded.
" the 90mm anti tank gun, take your boy out plinking today!!! "
I loved the music. With the boom boom boom and the harp! I got out my castanets and tambourine.
The Ontos 6 gun, was the real star.
I love how soldiers just appear from off camera every time they need more men.
Like a computer game. :-)
Love the music - "Write a musical score with an anti-tank weapon as your subject". "Er...ok!"
Love the fruity, “sciencey” yet matter of fact tone of the speaker.
They make war seem like a weekend picnic 🧺.
the background music in these types of clips i always find amusing. lol
Predecessor to the British Army Wombat (weapon of magnesium battalion anti-tank). At 120mm, the Wombat packed a helluva punch...and that was just on the crew!
As a new housewife in this modern age, be the envy of your social circle by employing this recoilless rifle in the comfort of your own home. Husbands love wives whom take an interest in defending their livings space against armored attack..
Wouldn't surprise me if there aren't a few Americans rather upset that they can't have one for 'personal protection'.
By far the best British weapon ever
Um, it's SWEDISH...
Cartoon sound track! Great vid, sorta.
I like the bayonet mount at the muzzle
I have long been a fan of the request rifle concept but there are certain issues with it they're not brought up in this video for instance the way to Shell tends tends to be quite high due to the doubling of propellant charge. US Army is now using the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle for direct fire support.
The British Army gave up the Carl Gustav over 20 years ago. Nice to see the yanks keeping up again..
@@rodbowes5309 they gave up on the m/48 model, there is a m/86 version out too and a even newer one that i seen them use in afganistan.
I can't get over the elevator music, it's like you need only go to Grace bros dept store to buy it.
Used even today with great success in Ukraine.
Slava!
7:00 Never discount the Ukrainian farmers ;)
Russia will win though
Nice piece of kit. But lol at the silly jolly-Disney style of music throughout...
Bofors make some good kit. 👍🏻
See the "coffee dripper" on the back of it? It's the same principle that Carl Gustav uses (Charlie Gutsache).
The Carl Gustav is much more affordable, can be carried, and a team of two is all it takes to operate.
Love the Department store music !! Lol : )
Pick one up at your local Wal-Mart today!!!
They were great on the BV206
Brilliant design, simple and easy to use and transport. Too bad its too simple. Seems like armies today want it all way to complicated. I wonder if they ever made a ammo trailer that could be pulled by soldiers? I want one for duck hunting :)
This could be made into a longrange bofors m4 , just replace most metal with plastic and a small computer , heck with the wheels you could even carry/ferry it over a river (marshes) by yourself. It came with a jeeplike 4 wheeldriven small truck.
The north Vietnamese used one on my dad's ranger unit he was wounded by a bee hive round a large shotgun round for the 90 mm recoiless
Does he remember this music?
With set of Wolfrace Alloys I could impress the neighbours.😀😀😀
I just want to see someone. Shoulder fire it. Its recoiless right??...
The US army used to have a 90mm recoilless rifle in the inventory that used a similar shell and was shoulder fired, or could be fired off a built in tripod arrangement. I shot one several times when I was a young combat engineer, but other units had them as well. It didn't have the spotting rifle bit had instead a subcaliber "shell" insert that used 7.62mm NATO cartriges. Also had HEDP and HESH anti armor shells and smoke. It was man portable and weighed about 30 pounds.
Kinda difficult to support & aim a 100kg (or 220lb for Americans) approx 7ft long tube on one shoulder ?
@@sonoffantm We had some smaller bore one at the outset of Korea that was tripod or shoulder-fired, but we went to a larger tripod-only weapon by mid-war.
@@sonoffantm Chuck Norris used to dual wield these.
Us armed forces still youse the 84mm Carlie G, that can be operated by 1 person but a 2 man crew can put 4 rounds out in a minute, i did as loader or shooter, 1989
Good sales pitch. :)
Please someone answer this question. Isn't half of the energy of the gunpowder in the muzzle of this gun wasted behind it?
Brilliant
Yeah but what about the shells? Only saw a few.
~1:26-1:33 : You've got to wonder straightaway if the poor chap loading the shells was invalided out after the film was made owing to partial or complete hearing loss.
They made 1600 of these beasts, and from what I can find out, not a one ever saw a shot fired in anger. Thank goodness for the troops, but I still feel pity for the training crews.
After diligent "research," our Weapon Analysis section has discovered s small placard which was designed as a "tear out" in a disused copy of the training documents. It was evidently intended for use via hanging it around the barrel of the weapon before firing. A rough transliteration runs as follows:
Snälla Mister. Tank, kom och skjut mig! Jag vill förvandlas till imitation lingonberry sylt!
Or, in more colloquial parlance: Please Mister Tank, come and shoot me! I want to turn into imitation lingonberry jam!
This is probably the primary weapon before the coming of the Sniper
so happy music.. wonder if they play the same music at the funerals?
The music throughout, ESPECIALLY in the very beginning reminds me of a Monty Python sketch!
Maybe someone here knows, but, were these issued out during the Korean War? I remember that UN forces had VERY little anti tank capability at the start of that conflict. This seems to be a good option in that regard.
The US Army used a similar weapon in 105 mm calibre at that time.
Sweden was a big manufactor of ammunition for the 84 mm, 90 mm and 105 mm recoilles rifle.
Ohhhh!! I say well done there chaps
Jolly Good !
*Pvpjtgb* It's like mashing the keyboard
PansarVärnsPJäsTerränGBil, terrain car [for an] anti-tank [artillery] piece.
STILL VIABLE TODAY! INDIA TOOK OUT LOTS OF USA TANKS WITH THESE WEAPONS. HAD THEM ON JEEPS.
I’ll take 3 dozen!
I've never seen a recoiless rifle shot a brass round like that.
. It has a 50 cal as a range finder?
If infantry started to attack, just pull the lever an fire the ranging weapon at then,if you realy had too. I would assume the sight would be on target.?
I want one....
Automatgevär m/42 Ljungman, either in 6.5, 7.62 or 8 mm
I'm sold. Where do we buy these?
wonder what the price tag would be on such a weapon these days?
2000 $ including assorted rounds
My militia will take 10 plus 2000 rounds of ammo. For deer season...

ad music for new appliances dad just had delivered to the house and mom in her dress and apron
So basically its a Super Bazooka on serious steroids?
more like a Granatgevär m/48 (Grg m/48), Carl Gustaf,
@@cmanderstedt , no, as the grg is a rifled gun while this is a smoothbore just like the bazookas.
hard to see until you pull the triger
In the real battlefield this artillery gun needs to be moved constantly after being fired, or mortars and return fire will be raining down on its position due to dust and smoke discharge.
its a shoot and scoop weapon.
Dear Mr Narrator, it is not PLARSTIC, no “R” it’s pronounced PLAS-TIC. Either he was doing a bad impression of minor noble from the United Kingdom, or was a minor noble from the United Kingdom. Sweden might be a small, peace loving nation, but they did/do have a knack making some fine weapons, aircraft, and naval craft, they used to make some great cars as well, but nowadays the aircraft market pays better. A friend of mine who I was serving with in the United Kingdom military was unable to go with us whenever we detached to Sweden, otherwise he wouldn’t of come back with us, he was a dual National with Sweden and had been called up for national service, and even though he was already serving within the United Kingdom military they considered him as still having to do his NS, even though he couldn’t speak a word of Swedish, hated the cold with a passion and was allergic to any form of seafood/fish, go figure the mentality of some pencil pushing bureaucrat!!!!.
The British adopted WOMBAT over this, if I recall correctly.
Possibly because it was 120mm?
@@dulls8475 And fired HESH rather than HEAT ammo. Rather more effective against non-tank targets than HEAT because of the larger explosive content.
@@rodbowes5309 ok thanks for that my Bn had Wombat in Berlin Mid 80s and we may have been the last unit to have it. Milan from then on.
Can I have one for Christmas?
Stop gap weapon at best until guided shoulder fired missiles were developed.
Not really a stop gap. More, part of the evolution. It's WWII weapon.

There are a number of them in service in Ukraine today.
Only a man carried anti tank weapon would be more easily hidden. Of course, most of them are fire and forget.
Such impractical piece of piping. This was obsolete from birth. No memory of WWII at all.
Except it's none of those things.
+ensitu That is wrong wrong wrong. Our feminist party isnt is far from running our goverment, they only got 3,1% in the election last year. Our military is in this moment growing faster than its ever has after WW2.
That however is not correct, it grew faster in the 50s then now
The main parties and the culture elite all call themselves feministic.

Looks very flimsy. That's probably why you never see them in war films.
They weren't around for very long. From the latter part of WWII until about 1965. After that missiles took over the role.
@@Mishn0 try mid-2010's, that's when the Baltic states took them out of service. Might be reinstated in Ukrainian service now.
Not flimsy at all. Problem was no one attacked Sweden, so there was no war movies made with them.
if you want to sell something, use a British accent.
You are not using inclusive language.... "Man-handle the weapon" should be "Person-handle the weapon".
This video is so old that political correctness didn't exist back then lol
