EFL Questions: How do you deal with misbehaving students?

  • Every EFL teacher will have experienced misbehaving students, whether they are young learners, teens, or even adults. There are many reasons why students misbehave, but in this video I'll be mostly focussing on two classroom management techniques:
    1. An individual-student reward scheme (this is what we do at my school, International House Bielsko-Biala).
    2. The 'Secret Student' initiative that my colleague Alan Laing has introduced at Primary Steps, a primary school here in Bielsko-Biala.
    I'll also mention the neuroscience and neuropsychology of misbehaviour, but here I will leave you in the capable hands of André Hedlund, who has written a very insightful article on the topic. Check it out here:
