    Actually there's several reasons why this idea doesn't work really. The nut slots would need to be widened for the thicker guage strings, the action will need to be made higher to allow for the larger vibration circle of lower tension strings, and nylon strings will not drive a cross-braced soundboard, and it sounds dead and very quiet. So the answer is to buy a Spanish guitar, and forget this idea.

      Yepp, I eventually did. I documented the changes and my new classical in an update video in the description.

    I ordered a classical last night just for the wider fretboard 😁 can't wait

      I hope you enjoy it! I used to be a steel string player and moving to classical constructed guitars gave me more freedom with the wider neck.

      Thank you. My first guitar is a custom 7 string converted to a 6. And I still have to be very precise, let's say, owing to my fat finger tips 😄

    I tried the same on an old Yamaha that desperately needs a setup but it sounded... just ok! lol. I didn't try filed the nut any but I think doing that would make a better tone as well. They have ball end nylon strings which make the process a whole lot easier. I'm glad I'm not the only one who tried this lmao. I don't own one but this convinced me that buying a nice nylon from cordoba or even the Academy is a worthwhile purchase. Good video dude!

    You might try a “fusion” guitar. I just bought a Cordoba Fusion 5, it has a narrower nut width, a 16 inch radiused neck, a cut away for access to the higher frets and yet it uses high tension nylon strings. It has a full bodied sound due to Spanish style fan bracing. This type of guitar may well be what you are looking for.

    Great video, thank you! I just bought a GS Mini and then realized I really wanted to stay with nylon strings, but I’m not sure say a Taylor Academy 12N is in the budget so soon after. I’d love to hear how the set up is working now that it’s been a month? I may tackle this as a project asap if it’s still working well, as I’d rather not be limited to the few ball end folk nylon strings out there. Thanks!!

      Hey Nathan and Tara! I have been planning on making a follow up video soon. I also bought a classical guitar so I will be comparing the sounds of those :). I’d be happy to see how you go with this sort of a project!

    Both steel and nylon strings stretch. Steel strings are much more resistant to stretch, so the issue has been confused. You can put nylon strings on a steel guitar safely. You cannot put steel strings on a guitar designed for nylon strings. Steel strings on a guitar designed for nylon strings will definitely warp the neck. It is probably not built as strongly as an acoustic guitar designed for steel strings.

    Thanks for this video. Have you had to adjust the truss rod again since putting the nylons on it? Would imagine the neck would relax quite a lot with really low tension.

    just a piece of advice change the saddle and bridge first it's not that hard and then your GS mini will sound great. all in all a good video.

    Hello, Carli. I have an acoustic which has a very high action. I stopped playing for a while just because of higher action & some fret buzzing. I want to install nylon strings on it. Should I do some alignments to make the action low or let it be?

    • @CarlosPCastaneda
      @CarlosPCastaneda  11 месяцев назад

      Hey Ishtekhar, it may be worth a try putting some “student” nylon strings to see how it works with the guitar and seeing how well the guitar holds it up. After that you can make truss rod adjustments as appropriate. The high action and buzzing does sound concerning but see if this nylon string mod helps with it at all :).

    A steel string guitar is designed so it can handle the stress of steel strings. Nylon strings will work but you will warp the neck of the guitar over time so it's best to buy a guitar designed for nylon strings.

      I think that is a myth

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 10 месяцев назад

      @@grantbaker371 It's not, guitars are designed to be under a specific amount of tension, so the neck is made to compensate for the tension they'll be under. Too little tension and the neck will bow or distort. You'd be better off having no strings on the guitar than lower tension strings, but even that's bad. A guitar should always have strings even if they're out of tune and not in use, and after long periods of non use, a guitars strings should always be replaced before use, otherwise they will generally break when trying to tune.

      @@peoplez129 well. I do understand physics and I understand truss rods. And I understand wood. You will have to do a more convincing explanation.

      @@johnrudy9404 that's what came to my mind as well. The laws of physics do not support the original posters claim. I don't know where people get crazy ideas and then state them as fact

    sell your taylor mini and buy a nylon strings guitar , the sound will be another level , there it is probably confortable but the sound is very bad and so tiny . stop trying to rich the level of an totaly other instrument. But it is fun ...well done.
