Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. These highlights have been artisanly-produced, carefully-curated, and chosen completely at random by an old computer that used to pick numbers for the New York Lotto back in the 90’s. - Развлечения
Morris Hayes, one of his two keyboard players from this band, tells a.great story of how he asked him to have the gunshot sample ready for the performance because Prince had decided he didn't want to shake Letterman's hand after the performance. Hence the 'suicide' at the end of the song. Also, Prince apparently told the band to cut out the second verse and go straight to the bridge right before they got on. Sonny Thompson and Michael Bland are locked in on this track and Prince's guitar solo is perfection!! I was 15 years old when I saw this in 1994!
Yes but there was MORE to it lol
Why did he not want to shake Dave's hand?
@@Rob_Kates He didn't like the jokes Dave made at the beginning of this.
And I don't blame Prince one bit lol. Making jokes at his expense when he was going through one of the most turbulent periods of his life and career was not cool on Letterman's part.
@@VDJVivacity meh... Letterman's a comedian, Prince didn't explain himself, it's a comedy show. If you want people to understand you, use your words I say.
Remember and still love this performance. One of his best tunes of the 90s for sure
Rest in purple paradise Prince! 💜💜💜
I've always known of Prince and his music. But it was only recently that I've started to appreciate his skills with the guitar. Man, he could shred and I totally respect him all the more for that. May he rest in peace.
Took me a minute, too. In fact, it was quite possibly this performance that I saw when I was young that I realized he wasn't just some weirdo pop star. Still young enough to see him as that, but old enough and musically adept enough to recognize game.
Really? Did you know that Lil Richard and Chuck berry invented roc and roll? Hey we learn something new everyday. Did you know that stevie ray was black on the inside?
I was lucky enough to meet Prince when he was on the Purple Rain tour. It was in Chicago and he was very very nice and down to earth.
RIP Prince. Thank you for sharing this.
Prince was one of the greatest guitar players ever... And of course multi talented, but I don't think that he got the recognition he deserved, truly great and truly missed 😢❤❤❤
I agree Prince was a hell of a guitar player but the greatest guitar player ever was Jimi Hendrix hands-down nobody can touch his style even to this day!
@@ronaldwilliams4954 Jimi RULES!!!! 🤘🎸🎶🪁⚾💙
@@ronaldwilliams4954c'mon man, Jimi had a 5 Year career, talented wise he is one of the best, but the best, i doubt it. I think Prince is one of th best guitarrists, talented wise, but he barely based his music career on his guitar skills, it was more like a combination of a lot of instruments.
Miss him everyday,Rest in power brother prince
I miss Prince SO MUCH! He was fantastic!
Chris Tucker recently told the story of how Luc Besson had originally wanted Prince to play his part of *_Ruby Rhod_* in ‘The Fifth Element’, but Prince turned it down. After the film’s sucessfull release, Chris was at a party with Prince and asked him why he didn’t take the role; Prince told him that he refused to wear the wardrobe and demanded that the character be of Prince’s own style 😂
You can tell hes basically playing prince in the film.
That's interesting I never heard that before. But I gotta say Chris Tucker was great in that role. Prince may have been a strange character but not that strange, c'mon. lol Great movie btw. My friend that passed away a few years ago Loved that movie. R.I.P Gary.
That’s true. There’s a clip of Chris saying such.
Then again Eddie Murphy was supposed to be in Rush Hour.. but chose Holy Man..
Wow. I did not know about this. That would have been wild.
I’ve never laid my eyes on a more perfect man. I miss him so much!!!
Prince music always made sense a truly truly blessed artist. You will always always have haters .....the BEST to ever do it
At last a pristine quality of this performance !!!! Thank U so much 4 posting it.
Loved the Gold Experience. A great album right up there with his best
🗣 *_Give The Drummer Some!_* Michael "B" 🥁 Michael Bland 🥁
that "Gold Experience" line is why P only did his show one other time.
You'd think it would be the last time from what you read about it...
I wonder what happened a couple years later.
Prince ALWAYS put on an awesome show!! Eclectic talent genius and he knew it!!! Miss your talent very much and you inspired many!! RIP rest easy ❤️🔥
Absolutely LOVE this song. Crazy underrated.
This song right here and 7 were the ones I played in my car right before stepping in the building at work. I was in deep dispute with my employers at the time. This song gave me courage and enlightenment to carry on. 💜
I luv it Prince he was rude to ya sweetie pie 💜💜💜💜🕯️🕯️👄👄
Was just watching a poor quality upload of this clip yesterday. Great❤
There was some great stuff written during this era that don't make it on his Greatest Hits
💯
@@Vicki_Benji Because they were not "hits" in a commercial way. But yes, some of his best stuff come from that 10 years era, right before his mainstream comeback in 2004 with "Musicology".
"Gold Experience", "The Truth", "Newpower Soul", "Old Friends 4 Sale", "The Rainbow Children", "One Nite Alone"... The man did some of his greatest work during those years and matured so much as an artist.
¡Gracias por subir el vídeo! Saludos desde Guayaquil, Ecuador. 🇪🇨
R I P Prince💜♊️♾️☔️
June 7, 1958 - April 21, 2016🕯
This is rock and roll. I know he's an amazing guitarist, really under rated, watch while my guitar gently weeps at the tribute for George Harrison, it's so amazing.but I never knew he had songs like this
Thanks for the upload!
R.I.P. Prince Rogers Nelson Mr.Nelson !
Miss u every day. 💜
I’d love to see the Fran Lebowitz segment too - wonder if she had any thoughts on The Artist’s performance…
Musical genius 💜
Another bad ass performance 🔥
Prince expressed his emotions through his music and I did not like how Dave made fun of him in the way that he did
PRINCE!!!!!!!
be a love of humanity .
Magical 💜🤍
Strange but talented character. I heard he had a great sense of humor. I'm sure Dave would enjoy his company if given the chance.
He thought outside of the box..that's what makes him unique. Nothing weird about that. 😀 He was a very nice man in person.
He didn't find Dave very humorous, apparently.
Many thought of him as “strange” but once you innerstand… he wasn’t strange at all. He was brilliant. I personally think he was misunderstood only because most couldn’t innerstand at the time.
@@Lov34OneAnother33 True, that probably applies to a few artist. Bob Dylan was certainly misunderstood in his time in the 60s. It's awesome seeing a genius in each generation. A little Strange isn't a bad thing. Perhaps I should have said they are unique. Meaning (one of a kind)...
@@Lov34OneAnother33 honestly Prince was just prince he has always been that way even before he became famous
I remember when he was on David Letterman
Prince wasn’t happy with the mocking Letterman of him.
I was in the audience when Prince performed in the Late Show... the other time.
Amazing presentation music 🎶
Please post Stevie Wonder from 1991 when he preformed his jungle fever songs gotta have you and each others. Throat when he was wearing white and black striped shirt please !!!!!! 😭❤️
As a fan of Prince and prog rock I hereby declare Prince to be prog 🤟🤟🤟
Thanks again 4 sharing... Next "Dinner With Delores" 1996 performance ? Please...
Letterman is hilarious. Miss those days!
Please post his performance of Dinner With Delores from 1996
💜
This was OUTSTANDING music at the time.....but he was competing with Pearl Jam, Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, etc....Prince could've just held on a bit more , to get the classic rock status he deserved.
Actually don’t think it was a competition. Prince IS a musical force on his own, as he has released more creative music than those bands collectively.
And respectfully, Prince is ALREADY at classic status. He’s a GENIUS!💜
Prince didn't compete with anybody. He was in a league unto his own.
Prince had his own style bro from day one he was always a musical genius and he always loved different types of music and that's not to taken away from anybody else because all those other artists you just mentioned I like those artists but he wasn't in competition with them
Paul looked up to Prince.
Prince and Letterman were always two above average intellects that irked each other. At this point, I'd have to take a moment and shout to the Most Dangerous Band in the World because, at one time, its was just that.
cool
fran was definitely the cherry on top of whatever that was !
Now I need to know which Julio Yglesias incident he's referring to!
What year was this? Dave, your channel is such a treat....like a "trip down memory lane"! I appreciate it and hope you are making some spare change😉
12/13/94
If you check the descriptions for these clips it tells you the air date.
Missing Prince, laughing at Dave laughing at Prince’s theatrics, laughing at the sight of Fran in the wings. Probably going straight to hell.
Damn LOL why going straight to hell wow cool coment
Anagram of 'The Artist Formerly Known As Prince' -
'Foreskin chewer rants importantly'
I am sure he appreciate the mocking, when he was kind enough to perform.
🐐💜 ☔
The artist known as Belinda Carlisle performs "Do You Feel Like I Feel". Thank you in advance.
P.S.
And who exactly is this guy? What kind of farce is this?
You can go back to listening to Taylor Swift
@@Steve-mp7by And you can educate yourself and find out a lot more details about that Taylor Swift. If you have anything in your head to understand anything...
nice subtitles
RIP
Can someone explain what Paul means by “the artist formerly known as Pinhead”?
Believe it or not Prince really didn't like David letterman. ...true facts
Guess Prince liked Roll the Bones
Wow that's deep has if he was predicted his own death this particular song right here as always giving me chills for some odd reason it's kind of dark in a sense oh and I almost forgot it also reminds me of 1983 a merdman I should turn to be by Jimi Hendrix from the electric ladyland album
@@ronaldwilliams4954could u please explain how he’s predicting his death here
I wonder....broadway...someday
How old was TAFKAP in 94?
36
What was done to her as a child needs to be made illegal.
What? Sometimes you people leave some of the strangest comments ever
Game…blouses.
your done. drive a cab.
Almost prog rock.
I wouldn't necessarily call that sound prog rock I would say more like basic rock and roll but that's just my opinion everybody has their opinion because when you say prog Rock first thing comes to mind is groups like yes King crimson ELP groups of that nature which I listen to all the time
@@ronaldwilliams4954 almost prog based on some of the chord changes. Not an easy song to understand when you first listen to it. It kinda reminds me of early 80s genesis and yes. Anyway, I'm a prog rock fan. Genesis (70s era) through Duke. I discovered king Crimson just last year after RUclips started suggesting videos. That band was special. Anyway... 😀
Was he suppose to fall on stage? 😢😮
Caissie’s shoes were wet from this episode.
@@taxesdeathandtrouble.1886 door number 3… :) she mentions it on her staff favorite moments.
May U Live 2 C D dawn
His ego was out of control and he was butthurt Warners closed down his record company. At least he admitted putting Slave on his face was a mistake. It made him look like a crybaby millionaire
and a "roped" Vegas for your fame .............
Dave referred to his performance as nickel and dime shows, how INSULTING as I don't care for him nor his corny artichoke jokes. Prince was THE TRUTH when he was alive in the flesh and still is even though he's no longer with us.
Releax. He was referring to the Letterman show as a nickel and dime show.
@@patreekotime4578 Dave made fun of EVERYONE, including and especially HIMSELF.
The artist and the new power generation with Mrs artist
Dave is such a cornball🙄
but , drive a nice car.
It is fun ...... Cancer is not fun. When your poor you die.
The artist formerly known as alive. 😂
Flat.
Slave? Pretty whealty and free slave he was.
Man, If you see how the music industry works, you will see why the artists are slaves. An artist is force to sell their future material and receive pennies of the earnings that music make.
Only from the very IGNORANT types who IDENTIFY themselves to be emotionally and intellectually superior to others. This is in regards to a CONtractual deception regarding his relationship with Warner Brothers Music Corporation. Ownership of his Master Recording that he does in his own studio requires no up front financial support or backing "ONLY DISTRIBUTION" unlike other artists/musicians of his status. BAD BUSINESS is BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES especially when they refuse to negotiate or work with him regarding issues CONtractually!!!!!
I'm not saying music business is free from sin. I find it disrespectful compared to people who where slaves in the true sense of the word. Imagine being physically not free, sleeping in a barn, working very hard, being whipped, being sold, and then seeing a rich and free musician calling himself a slave.
Totally overrated.
The most ridiculous guitar ever. It's like a cross between a boat anchor and a toilet seat.
Nah, it's the replica of the sign Prince adopted as his own at the time.
Who cares, his guitar skills were amazing!
Stop hating seriously when people make those kind of comments there'nothing but haters Prince was a musical genius even before he was even famous bro get over it
Might be the worst prince song ever
F**king rhythmic ribbon dancer
Yeah it was pretty bad. Was probably just knockin 'em out to fulfill his contract with Warner Brothers.
I like this song! Alot! Brilliant, underrated album, too.
It's dreadful.
@@markorkarenhanes1354 Which is nonsense, as Warner Bros didn't want to release this album, and didn't grant Prince permission to release it himself.
That's why David said that this album will never be released.
Prince promoted the album to force WB to grant him the release of the album.
So funny. Great excerpt. Thank you Dave
