We are joined by twice BAFTA nominated actress Judy Parfitt, who is nowadays perhaps best known for playing Sister Monica Joan in the BBC hit ‘Call the Midwife’. In the series, her character is living with dementia, which is currently undiagnosed, but the other nurses and nuns are aware she is showing symptoms and requires some extra looking after. Dementia is a condition close to Judy’s heart off-screen, as she lost her husband Tony to the condition in 2001. Today Judy joins us to tell us about her new role as an Ambassador for Dementia UK and their Time for a Cuppa campaign which she is supporting. She also tells us about the reaction she has received portraying Sister Monica Joan’s dementia, how she prevents herself from feeling lonely and whether she would ever take a dementia test herself.
From series 24, broadcast on 06/02/20

My wife and I only recently discovered "Call The Mid-Wife" . The program is excellent and made better by the character of Sister Monica Joan and the way Ms Parfitt executes her portrayal.
She is good.
Judy's performance as Vera on Dolores Claiborne is unforgettable!
Brilliant actress and series.......
Call the Midwife is my antidepressant. It really is. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s suffering from any mental illness. I’ve learned that it’s not so much that I get from it that people can be kind and compassionate, it’s that I can be that way too without fear. It’s in me, but I’ve often held back for fear of any consequences.
And that is why I watch it over and over. I fall asleep to it.
Fantastic series, fantastic cast of actors. I am also privileged to work with researchers who are doing their best to unravel neurological diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Autism, and many more in the hopes of finding a cure.
Both my grandmothers had dementia and while my maternal grandmother had 12 children to help, I spent a lot more time with my paternal grandmother. She grew calm and patient but would only go out with my Poppa or me as she was uncomfortable outside her home.
She my favorite one she makes me laugh her character.
❤ Thise moment with my own mother was very heartbreaking. ❤🙏
