    As someone who has gone through post operative delirium, this one was terrifying.
    Short answer: Yes, your brain absolutely could make up an entire life.

    • @FeenieVonKarma
      @FeenieVonKarma 5 месяцев назад +29

      Ah, I was "diagnosed" with delirium and I don't remember a thing of what happened during it. I was told I attacked a doctor, absolutely bizarre since I'm very polite (if they are!). apparently I pretty much only said "I don't know" to any question. I think my soul just peaced out for 24-48 hrs lol. The brain is a scary thing.
      edit: oh, and remember that one junji ito story where the guy had progressively longer dreams, to the point where he'd lived like 50 years in a single night? yeah...

    • @Puggernuts
      @Puggernuts 5 месяцев назад +9

      @@FeenieVonKarma That's strange, I remember almost everything. When I finally woke up from the medically induced coma, I refused to believe I was at a hospital. I was adamant that I was at my friend's house and that I could still walk. I kept seeing doctors and nurses that were not there and having full conversations with them and at one point I played a scenario out where someone I knew who didn't like me showed up and tried to break into the room with power tools until the cops showed up and they both shot eachother. (The gunshots were so loud) and I started ripping ivs out and tried to roll out of bed to call 911 but everything I was seeing wasn't real.

      I was on antidepressants for about a year with no side effects, and then I started having dreams within dreams within dreams. Dreaming that i woke up and got ready for the day, only to wake up again. It was horrible. My inner monologue really did seem like two people having a conversation, "Is this real, no, this isn't real, am I still dreaming." I would scream internally when sleep paralysis kicked in, and I couldn't move. I'm better now, but man, this story made me feel some deep dread and fear. I figured out that if I can spell out a word correctly without difficulties, then I'm awake.

    I really liked how the story showed someone diving down their own paranoia and having it come to reality within the state of the deprivation chamber and how going through something like that would lead to trauma

    • @carved_cuts
      @carved_cuts 5 месяцев назад +18

      I agree. I feel like this is one of those stories that could actually happen, which are always the scariest. I've heard of people being traumatized by their own nightmares. The brain is basically able to damage itself. I find it interesting that the one thing that made the main character spiral was the fact that they physically couldn't back out, once placed in the chamber. This one (highly unethical) factor started the spiral of paranoia and traumatizing hallucinations.

    • @ijustrealllylikecats
      @ijustrealllylikecats 5 месяцев назад +9

      @@carved_cuts That kind of trauma is very real and happens fairly often. I got ptsd from some medication side effects last year that caused a serious heart condition. It's mentally effected me so badly I'm not really able to function at all, I'm in therapy and it's hard to even think about it without having panic attacks thinking my heart is going to stop. I just can't seem to reason with myself when I'm convinced that I'm dying. It's like you said, I feel like my brain essentially broke itself.

    Hey, hey! Welcome back! I found your channel and subscribed, mmmmm(?), 2 or 3 months ago, and have been obsessively going through your catalog. Amazing work, man, for real! And you can definitely hear how you’ve improved at your craft over the years; bravo!
    Your channel has helped so much in improving my mood, which will hopefully facilitate my returning to real life sooner than later. I just went through 2 years of betrayal, then abandonment, and to top it off he also wants full custody of our son. I had a nervous breakdown last September because of all of it. Couldn’t work, had to move back in with my parents at 45 years old, and all of my trauma started with their strict, fundamentalist, religious upbringing.
    Therapy, and journaling, walking in the woods, and daily meditation got me through deconstructing my trauma and pain, and it now feels like I stand naked, raw and skinned and red, and alone. And I have to be better, because I have an 8-year-old little boy who means the world to me, and I gotta be able to fight for him, and take care of him, and prepare him for life in this world.
    Listening to your stories is helping me do that. I’m growing my skin back thicker, eating healthier, growing stronger. Girding for battle, if you will.
    Thank you for what you do; it provides a much needed escape.❤❤❤

    I sometimes fear similar. As a writer myself, I have an extremely vivid imagination and have found myself on multiple occasions shifting my fingers below my bedsheets in the moments between sleeping and waking, truly believing I had my phone in my hand, scrolling through another series of videos. I've woken up while still within dreams, I've become locked within them, I've seen horrors unequaled by anything in the real world, so suffice to say, I've somewhat fallen in love with this genre. People always tell me on and on how they can never remember their dreams, or only see them in fleeting detail, this feels more personal to me than other genres in that way.
    Anywho, rant aside, this was quite well written.

There was a “pep assembly” so imagine hundreds of sweaty high schoolers in one big room, the band playing the most boring pop songs ever, everything is super bright and loud. What’s more, I’m also autistic. Pretty much I got into a state of sensory overload that lasted a few hours. Your videos always help me relax since your voice is so nice, the music sounds amazing, and the stories are great. I saw that this video came out once I got home (headed there after the assembly. Just couldn’t do school) and this video helped calm me down. I’m still feeling a bit overloaded, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was a few hours ago. i've heard this exact story a good while ago. like, a few years ago?
    back then i was just like pretty much every one here: "pretty scary story, could you imagine what it'd feel like to have dreams so vivid, you dont know if you are truly awake?"
    i actually kinda know what it feels like. a few years ago in a hospital visit, i was given a drug via IV that provoked an anaphylactic shock. my airways closed and i suffocated within one minute. everything went black. it didnt hurt, and i didnt have enough time to panic. my pragmatic ass was just trying to tell the nurse "i cant breath" like i'm helping her diagnose me.
    absolute nothingness. not even blackness. i was aware afterwards that there is a gap in my memories. but it felt more like *really* deep sleep
    when i woke up, the first thing i noticed was that i was breathing like crazy, but the satisfaction of oxygen in my lungs never came. then i stopped myself from hyperventilating, taking a deep breath and holding it for a few moments. after a while i started hearing voices, but obviously they didnt make much sense. imagine POV of a code blue patient.
    then i opened my eyes and saw about six faces over me. then i noticed someone standing by my feet, holding a syringe, asking if they need it. the person closest to my right said no. i looked up and saw the heart monitor showing 82% oxygen and rising. as that number went up, i could breath easier.
    the few days after that felt... soft, blurry. like... someone put the "bloom" setting too high. i was even less talkactive, and just sat there, dozing off. during these days, i would feel awfully separated from my body.
    now, i have this weird thing, where i faint when i know my body is damaged. like, its not even the pain of a needle, its the image of the needle going into my skin, piercing my vein, and the nurse digging around to find a good angle that does it for me, and i tend to faint. and when i faint, i dream. vividly. so much that it feels like real life. and i only know that i DID dream, because once someone wakes me up, i realise the dream didnt make much sense.
    so, sometimes (especially when i'm really stressed, or depressed) my perception of reality goes weird, and i feel like i could wake up at any moment, and look back to realise it was all just a fainting- dream.
    tl;dr
    i sometimes feel like i could wake up any moment

    Omg, I know I am bit late to this but this reminds me of that redit lamp story where a dude had fell over and hit his head, then lived a whole other life in his mind until he saw a strange lamp and realized that it was all a dream. What a terrifying idea, that your whole life could just be a dream...

    I suspected around the time his big toe was mentioned that he would "wake up" multiple times like something out of Groundhog Day. I've read about people in comas that have experienced decades of life in only a few days or even hours, so a constant nagging like that would be near phyche-shattering.

    Your afterthoughts reminded me so much of the movie Martyrs... it's a really messed up movie and shows a lot of torture in detail and will make you feel absolutely horrific afterwards but if you're interested in the idea of what comes after then I would really recommend it. The original is French but there's also a remake in English.

    Took me about three days to wake up properly from heart valve replacement surgery and it is very disorienting. I spent part of the first one wondering why the government had captured me and falling asleep again. Before that I'd been oxygen deprived and not really grasping reality properly for a couple of months (I caught virus and developed an autoimmune reaction which damaged my kidneys, heart and lungs).

    as soon as i heard that the "sign for the end of the experiment" were bells i kinda suspected that it would devolve into some mad thing here the guy is going thru hell and when he dies he would hear the bells and not believe that he was in there for only 3 days.
    but i didnt expect an entire escape sequence nor the thought of dobubt even after getting out that he may still be stuck in there.

    I found this story interesting because I sometimes experience CEH somewhere between level 4 and 5. Always of where I am at. No drugs. No psychiatric problems. Usually just very tired. I don't like to look around but I can. I kept thinking thinking about I would have no choice but to look in that situation. CEH is closed eye hallucinations.
