Wool socks are a necessity. Lanolin oil in wool is naturally anti-bacterial. I wear wool socks year-round since wool is better at regulating temperature than cotton or other material. Lighter wool socks for summer, and heavier for winter. Together with a good leather insole/foot bed are the most important things for me for foot-stank. Even after wearing my RW Moc Toes for a weekend away they just sort of smell like leather.
Wool socks are so great. I made the switch this year and I'm amazed at how few pairs I need + how comfortable they are no matter the weather + how long I can wear them without them stinking. 6 pairs gets me through a whole month!
To add to the insole thing, if you have removable insoles and you’ve had a long day in your boots, you can pop out the insole and let it air out when your letting the boots air out. They will dry a lot faster than if they are stuck in your hot dank boots
Since I started wearing quality leather boots/dress shoes which I rotate frequently and always leave them with cedar shoe trees inside my feet (and obviously my boots as well) stopped smelling and my foot health greatly improved, I was astonished by how fast the change happened and how reliable these easy few tips are. Thank you guys for providing us with great advice 😁.
When it rained my Nick's reeked! As in clear out a room, strip the paint off a footlocker stench lol. Boots looked pretty clean but chicken poop dust had worked down deep into the stich down welt, only stinky when the outside got wet. Took a weekend to saddle soap clean them 6 or 7 times to get rid of the odor. No more expensive boots in the chicken coop for me!! Muck boots only from now on.
NUMBER 1 military tip: Change your socks during the day! Do this particularly when going on a hike or long walk. Bring an extra pair of good socks and change them out when your feet start to feel a bit damp or sweaty. Let your used pair dry out on the back of your pack or in/on your car.
I find one of the most important things is to not walk around the house in your socks, and then wear your boots! Even the cleanest floors have enough microscopic crud to create a wonderful science experiment!
@@themisladopoulos4060 exactly. They can be more pricy but they also won’t have issues with them getting too worn out with holes like cheap cotton socks. And when you see companies like darn tough and smart wool that have warranties if your sock gets a hole in the heel/toe, it makes it a lot more affordable.
Totally agree! The problem nowadays is you have to really look out for good ones. They often try to sell you some artificial fibers with it. Still rocking the socks my (great)-grandmother knitted🙂
I throw a large silica packet into each shoe whenever I take them off. Absorbs moisture, reduces bacteria, works great to reduce smell. Cedar shoe trees should have a similar effect themselves and are probably sufficient if your feet don’t sweet so terribly
Polyester, specifically, is what smells the worst. Polyester in socks, which is very common, and polyester in cheap shoes. It seems that higher quality shoes tend not to use it. Cheap socks are fine, though, if they are cotton. Cotton just tends to hold on to moisture more than other fabrics, so change them every day or twice a day if it's a problem.
One thing with the boot dryer. If you have the plastic shoe trees, stick them in. Those usually aren't perfectly snug so some air will still get around. That way the boot keeps shape while it is drying. Generally, I just use plastic shoe trees when my footwear gets soaked. Plastic tree to keep shape and put in front of a fan to dry. Wood works to draw sweat but put a wood tree in a soaked boot and you find both the boot and the tree just molds out as they can't dry properly. When the boot goes to damp instead of soaking wet, the wood trees can be put in to draw the remaining moisture but for soaked boots wood trees are just a perfect place to grow mold.
I have a pair of 1967 Vietnam jungle boots that I bought new last year. The leather from that boot is far and away different from anything I’ve ever worn. No matter how old they get, or how much I sweat in them, the smell of the leather overpowers the stink from my feet. Even my stinky socks smell like the leather instead of vice versa. Can’t find that smell even in NOS vintage boots from the 50s or 70s that I also have. The leather smell is just so strong in those 1967s and doesn’t go away.
Use house hold cooking vinegar to kill fungi and mold .It not only kills the mold but also restores the leather and prevents it from cracking by getting the acidity back . Leather pH should be around 3.5-4 veg and 4-5chrome .It binds the fat liqour.Your sweat and "super duper" mink or neatsfoot oil are very neutral causing the pH to shift which leads to the fat escaping and leather to crack :)
I live in Arizona. Summer 110 f° after 8h of manual labor can I put my boots directly in the sun to dry out fast for the next day or shade would be better? I'll get at least 2 pairs but currently I can only afford one. But is it acceptable in general to put boots out in the sun to dry. Will it dry out the leather and they will become dry and cracking.? Thank you.
Just wash your feet, use clean socks everyday and put a little foot powder or spray! My feet haven't smelled since I was a teenager!!! And they stay so healthy
Teach the people about bacteria and body odor. The bacteria found out everyone break down sweat and their waste is what smells. That's why sweat doesn't smell bad at first. Warm wet places help bacteria grow, so shoes and feet are perfect places to help them grow, and even fungus. So as you were saying, proper hygiene is key to preventing foul odors in the first place. Appreciate the other tips tho.
I have sweaty feet,no matter what I wear, leather boots or hickers( I work in construction)if they are waterproof, chances are my feat will sweat, unless I wear running shoes. I try to buy socks with a high cotton percentile, which are hard to find, synthetic, don't help me. Will try wool next time I shop for sox. I also put a dryer sheet under inserts, but don't seem to work.
Wear wool socks (Darn tough), use cedar shoe trees at night to help dry them out and if they ever do get smelly, rub a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol on the boots’ footbed, or the insole if you have one. That’ll clear up any smell immediately. It’s the bacteria that creates the smell, and the rubbing alcohol kills it fast. Please don’t put food or used tea hats in your boots. Lol. Great video! Thanks!
Wool socks are great. Merino wool socks are better still. Don't get 100% wool/merino wool but somewhere between 40% and 80% wool is fine as 100% wool generally wears out very quickly and some nylon usually makes them last significantly longer. Also, leave room for the socks to work. Use appropriate thickness of socks and and don't compress the socks too much.
2 days in the freezer cures the smell, as the sweat smell is the result of bacteria which is killed in the deep freezer. Also works for synthetic running gear very well !
I left my sweaty socks in my athletic shoes and they got really stinky. I put cedar shoe trees in them and in about a day the smell was gone. Cedar naturally absorbs odors.
I dont know you guys have this in Western countries. "Camphor" is one of the best solution. In Assian contries, they are use to de-odor closset, prevent issect and moisture control. I use them as boot-tree, especially engineet boots, just imagine wearing them at humid area and not doing anythig for that. Way more eff and cheaper than any shoe tree.
i have a problem (sort of) that my feet don't sweat hardly at all. it's the strangest thing so i actually don't have this particular problem. guess that's an overshare - but great video nonetheless!!
My friends brother thinks that standing in soapy water is enough to clean his feet. It bothers me so much and I can't stand when he takes off his shoes and socks.
What about the stuff they use at bowling alleys? You know - the stuff they spray a tiny little spray into the shoes they make you wear that millions of other people have also worn.
Ive never had stinky boots, people who do have a hygiene problem. I do have 5 pairs of boots in my rotation but stink is caused by bacteria, wash yourself.
I opened this to comment only. I don't need to listen, because all you have to do is wear wool socks. That is one step that works, and if that isn't one of the 14, then you're wrong. And if it is, the other 13 are unnecessary, or too complicated. Wear wool socks. That's it.

Rose avail is like “can I talk please” 😂
I have naturally sweaty feet, all of my socks are wool. It's pretty much eliminated the stink problem I used to have.
When it rained my Nick's reeked! As in clear out a room, strip the paint off a footlocker stench lol. Boot dryer hands down. I use it every day and it’s a game changer.

Wool socks 100%. I only wear wool socks with boots for this reason. Wool is anti microbial so it definitely helps and better moisture wicking
Especially merino wool socks

Two of the most awesome dudes on RUclips that provides us with amazing videos thanks to both of them !
Wool socks plus leather insole works best.
You can wash your feet in Head and Shoulders shampoo. The active ingredient is an antifungal medication.
People sleep on that head and shoulders
People sleep standing up?
Thank you for sharing this with us. You two are "adorable!"....

yes, polyester or polyamid in socks and shoes are the worst. they are non-breathable.

Merino wool socks for sure! If cost is an issue, try Kirkland brand from Costco, great deal!
I forgot to mention I do use a boot dryer too. Works great and it lets me put warm boots on in the morning :)
All natural material (except outsole) boots + natural material socks = does not stink.
I work in a recycling center and I’m hard on my footwear. For me, wool socks are a must. And a spare set.
Wool socks and good leather boots. I’ve been stink free for 5 years 🎃
What brand was the jacket around 3;10 mark in clip. Lovely looking jacket . Brand name pls ?
The boot dryer is a must if you work in your boots

6:41 An option is using silicon gel packets
My method is putting eucalyptus oil on my shoe trees every few months and wool socks. Works wonders.
Wool Socks and Lavender Essential Oil works great for me.

I highly recommend using activated charcoal inserts. It sucks out the moisture and odor bacteria along with it. Double wammy.
Wool socks help allot! I always wear wool socks.

Boot dryer works good. Nicks says no heat on their boots. Maybe models exist that force air without heat?
What a great video 🙌🏼
Talcum powder just turns into boot cement (concrete)
What are those boots at 3:52? The leather looks awesome!
It's amazing how far a weekly swim in chlorinated water can do for all kinds of body odor!! Don't forget to wash between your toes!
Nick: What shirt are you wearing (blue plaid)? Excellent tips!
My skin is sensitive to lanolin... Are there any alternatives to wool socks that folks suggest?
Bamboo cotton

I just got me a new pair of iron rangers and I’m thinking about getting the ceder trees and the boot dryers but what is the best ones to get?
To also add I work 10 hour shifts in them also
Boot dryers saved my ass and my boots’ asses after hiking Fuji. An essential accessory.
How about 10 tips to not hurt your feet wearing boots! Could be interesting too for people like me using boots every day. Cheers!

"Woooool sooooocks."
Eustice Bag.
good lotion after a good soak and cleaning helps a lot in the clean feet healthy feet maintenance routine. maybe even some callus removal if needed.
I just put my shoes in the shoe dryer if they are damp inside. Never smells. Gym shoes or leather boots. Always works.
wool Sox and a chower work for me. 😄
I don’t have a problem with stinky boots but I pick my foot up rather than bend down to scrub them just grab it with one hand and wash with the other
"Wash your feet!" Please!
buy double-sided socks = socks with a lining. And yes they do exist and work great!
i have a problem (sort of) that my feet don't sweat hardly at all. it's the strangest thing so i actually don't have this particular problem. guess that's an overshare - but great video nonetheless!!
Dont be so humble, your channel is amazing too :)
"Wash your feet", makes note.
Smartwool socks and Pedag wool insoles 🙂
Tip #1: only wear them for photo shoots and short video shots.

My friends brother thinks that standing in soapy water is enough to clean his feet. It bothers me so much and I can't stand when he takes off his shoes and socks.
I should clarify that he doesn't do a foot bath, he just lets the soapy water from his shower "clean" his feet.
My old boots smell like roses compared to my new ones from Thursday. The whole house is smelling like a Mexican factory for poison or insecticides.
Definitely wool socks. I only wear wool socks now and my feet no longer smell.
Seems like everyone wears a Flint & Tinder waxed trucker jacket! 👍🏻👍🏻
100% BAMBOO SOCKS . Hands down a game changer for not getting stinky feet or boots
It is as important to dry your feet after a shower as it is to wash them.
Zero synthetic materials
This.
You said crunchy granola
what kind of monster doesnt wash their feet when theyre in the shower?

They did say that
@@Artemis-v8i I was right, then. I didn't need to listen.
I wear alpaca socks in my boots. Alpaca is naturally anti oder.
Peets boot dryer. Done no other thing needed
Take your boots and socks off when you're home. You're less likely to develop athletes foot or fungal toe which make get reek
You have to use tea tree oil before putting them on not after wearing them all day. Works like a charm. Wool socks are too expensive.
Wash everything with bleach water and done.
Who do you keep looking at?😂
dont have that problem. its all about hygiene.
Not willing to bend down and wash your feet is such an old person thing to do... really old, like someone in their 70's or 80's.
