Visiting Nauticus - Norfolk, Virginia's maritime museum

- In this video, we visit Norfolk, Virginia's maritime science center and museum, Nauticus. We will learn about the area's maritime history, especially as it relates to the US Navy's presence in Norfolk. We will give you a peek at their new exhibit "Norfolk in Time" and at the children's exhibit that is not yet open to the public: "Aquatica." We will also check out the museum within a museum that is housed in Nauticus - the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. And join us as we tour the USS Wisconsin, a retired battleship permanently docked at Nauticus. If you are planning a trip to Norfolk or the neighboring city of Virginia Beach, you may want to check this attraction out in person.

I've visited this once before whenever my old navy ship (USS Hayler) was along side around 1995 or so. I saw Bill Monroe perform at the park as well.
Very interesting place. Did not know about mermaids being a symble of Norfolk. 130 of them? Wow!! So much history here. I've seen the giant battleship game sonwehere, but now I know where to find it. Battleship Wisconsin looks like and interesting tour.

Loved seeing the Veterans Memorial there outside the museum on this Memorial Day, Jack and Alice. We've taken the boat tour of the Naval Base and saw some of the ships which ended up there including the old Battleship "Wisconsin!" (We're from Wisconsin so it drew our interest) Wonderful museum with many great displays. Thanks for bringing us along.

First great name for a battleship (I grew up in Wisconsin)! Back in February we stayed a block away from the museum at the Gaslight hotel! I really wanted to tour the battleship but we just didn't have the time! The prices seem pretty decent to see the museum and the battleship!
The ticket price to tour the museum and battleship are really reasonable. And there is a lot to see here. Hope you get to check it out on your next visit. The Wisconsin was a nice place to visit - though I wouldn't want to live in those servicemember bunks. They look to be about the size of a coffin. I am sure the state of Wisconsin has much nicer accomodations though! Thanks for watching!

What an awesome Maritime Museum. Love the sculptures, the scattered Letters is a great idea. Some great exhibits in this Maritime museum, very informative. Loved the aquarium. Great that you can see a battleship and board it. It is also great that you can do a self guided tour and a guided tour on the battleship. Oh my, that Silverware, can you imagine keeping that clean , no thank you! A great gift shop! Thank you for taking us along, this would be a great place to visit. Thank you Jack and Alice.
Love the mermaid statues.I felt sad about the where soldiers die. A powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Nice tables and food and souviniers

Great video! I really enjoyed the tour of Nauticus and the surrounding park. The Armed Forces Memorial is a powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It's incredible to see the letters from service personnel and the emotions they conveyed. The exhibits at Nauticus, like the port of Virginia and the Jamestown exposition, are fascinating.
I also love the mermaid statues scattered throughout Norfolk. Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience with us!

This looks like such a great Maritime museum! Love the Homecoming statue of the sailor returning home after deployment. So many great statues, I love that they have mermaids all over town. Cool they have a cruise port too! So cool Jamestown is the first English settlement of the US. Love seeing inside the museum. Awe there are some really cool fish! The Norfolk in time exhibit is really neat to see how things changed over the years. So cool to see the tanks and ships outside. Awesome you can tour the ship self guided included in your ticket. So neat to see onboard too. Thanks for the fantastic tour Jack and Alice :)

Enjoyed the history and especially honoring those on Memorial Day! We need that life size battleship game!!! That would be great to take camping with us 😆 We enjoyed seeing the different rooms of the ship!! Enjoyed the video!!! 😁
That life size battleship game would be very popular at the campgrounds! The military memorial nearby was really unique and moving. Any time we can tour a Navy ship, we find it fascinating to learn the history of it and see what life was like on the ship. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!

Nauticus is a really cool museum. I am surprised we had actually never been. Jack grew up in the area and we lived there for years when we first got married. But somehow, we had been on the battleship but missed the museum. It was fun to finally see what it was like. And yes - that Armed Forces Memorial outside was a lovely way to honor those who gave so much to our country!
Someone told us about that place the last time we were in Virginia Beach. We’ll definitely have to check it out sometime.
This looked a great museum with a lot to see and do and that park near it is great. Good to see the largest naval base in the world and hear that mermaids are a symbol of Norfolk . Its great that you can stay overnight on a battleship, our son would love that ! 😃It is also great that they have a documentary to watch there on the last battleship that the USA built and that you can play a giant game of battleship . Loved the footage of the fish and seahorse . Beautiful underwater footage of them. Its also good that there is a children's section and a timeline of Norfolks history and that you could see the officers staterooms. So good , no wonder you spent 3 hours there :) ~ Anna 👍
Ohh this was pretty fitting for Memorial Day 🙂 very historic museum out there in VA. Good place to visit. Some fun exhibits in there.. that battleship game gave me memories of my childhood hehe.. hope you guys have a great week ahead!
Hey guys! Wow that is one huge anchor. I love some military history so I would definitely enjoy this museum. That huge battle ship would be fun to play. I'm glad I chose Air Force over Navy because I would not do well in those tiny bunks. Enjoyed it my friends

We really found the memorial here to be a unique idea as well. We actually wanted to play giant Battleship. But we got tired of waiting for the people playing to finish. We will have to go back sometime to cheat. Thanks for watching and commenting!
