Ooooh okay… my apologies! I got you completely wrong because, as I wrote, this song in particular is so minimalistic, and the lyrics are beyond simple. I love the song, but complex, it is not.

The chord progression in this song has absolutely nothing to do with the "standard" four chords used in cookie-cutter pop. The chords aren't even diatonic. The song's minimalism has been its attraction since Timmy Thomas' 1972 original.
