He already figured out the reads for no interceptions, now he’s gonna read not to get sacked. Watch Sam Howell, he’s gonna fix it this game Sunday. 1 sack he’ll have Sunday. And that’s cause Cosmi lets his guy go. Or sam doesn’t throw the ball in the stands.

Im going to say it… I’m NOT saying he’s Josh Allen… but he has a very similar playing style and similar tendencies. He’s a bit more condensed (size wise) and not as gifted in arm talent but given what I’ve seen this far I think with a solid offensive line that allows him to hold the ball and play his style of game that suits him, he is showing the tools needed to potentially become a tier 1/2 QB in this modern NFL game. Especially with a creative OC like EB.
He’s a really really talented passer I think even more so than I originally thought. He’s already the best “pure passer” in the division and I’m not sure it’s close. He makes great throws under pressure with guys in his face almost every game. The pocket is rarely just clean.

@@JasonWilliams-um8im Sam, as the decision maker AND EB as the O scheme, have joint responsibility for most of the sacks. I'm no expert, just a fan - and I see Sam throwing chunk yardage passes FIRST, rarely checking down, and that's where the sacks play in. That same .5 second waiting for one or more receivers X or Y, to break open enough to get the ball to them, that same time is used by the D line to get to him and sack him. He's already sending beautiful throws downfield; his anticipation and touch in this scheme are wonders to behold (in the 2.7 seconds to decision and throw).

This is his first full-year start and already looks as good or better than many of the NFL starting QBs. What is exciting about him is that he seems to have a very short learning curve. His rcvrs dropped some long balls against Atlanta that should have been caught. Been watching since the Sonny Jurgensen/Billy Kilmer days and I am very excited about the prospects of this QB becoming an elite QB in the NFL, provided he doesn't get hurt taking all those sacks.

Sam is a franchise qb. Josh allen 10 td 12 int his 1st yr. Troy aikman 1-15 his 1st year. Sam is young, eb is new, the oline has 3 new starters n 1 playin a new position. Sam has manning level study habits, eb needs to fix the running game and then call more balanced games and the oline needs to gel. I believe all of that will happen and then we will see a breakout for sam and the offense. R-E-L-A-X people.

I can say as a UNC fan, he can grow to be very good. His negatives are his height and his tendency to hold on to the ball too long looking for the long ball. His positives are his deep ball accuracy, mobility, and he is known to be a student of the game. From what I can tell from the few games I've caught of Washington, their OLine is horrible. He doesn't have time to diagnose the defense or cut loose the long ball. This is the type of scenario that can stunt a young QB's growth. Hope they fix that soon.

The problem is not Howell. The problem is the offensive line. If they can give him 2 to 3 seconds more time in the pocket he can get the ball out to the receivers much better. Once he starts shredding the backs with huge gains in pass yardage, the D would switch to pass coverage and force Howell to throw underneath. That's when they should hand off to the RBs and gouge them up the middle. Once they fix the O-line problem, they will become a playoff caliber team.

Looking at this tape I'm seeing Gibson almost always open with nothing but green in front of him but Sam prefers throwing deeper rather than getting yac. Doing the safe thing to Gibson on 3rd down would have almost guaranteed a 1st down and probably 20 yards which is almost what would have happened IF receivers caught the ball. We need to throw more on 1st down and hit Gibson more on every down.
