- January 2024 update for my Byes and Buys series! In this video I give mini reviews for the empties for January and also any purchases made during the month. What is a “controlled buy”? This year I have decided to continue my beauty budget. I put $75 per paycheck (26 paychecks per year) into my beauty bank and I have $1000 for makeup, $400 for eye shadow palettes, and $550 for skincare for my beginning of the year budget. I do not have a limit on the number of products I bring in, but the purchase amount does have to stay within budget.
Haircare is replacement only and does not come out of the budget. Perfumes and beauty tools will not come out of the budget, but I will track the purchases and cost.
Byes/Beauty Empties. I track all of my beauty empties and the past three years I have been able to use up more than $2000 (retail value) of products. I would like to reach that goal again this year.

Loved this video. Appreciate your thoroughness and explanations. You inspire me to be more thoughtful in my spending. Don’t have allergies or skin issues but like hearing about the products and advice. Agree the insurance companies cause our healthcare issues along with corporate buyouts of private medical .

Between the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and private/for profit medial groups....It's hard for so many to access the care they need!

I've felt that itch too to depot everything because it seems so satisfying, but I know I will end up regretting it too, so I only depot shades I like from palettes I'm decluttering.
BTW whenever you need to revive a mascara without messing up the formula try using lubricant drops for contact lenses (NOT the one you put them in at night, but the one that says lubricating and you put IN your eyes while wearing contacts). They're obviously eye safe and they work like a charm!!

Thank you for the tip for the mascara! I totally forgot about using eye drops! I don't wear contacts, but I do have regular lubricating eye drops for when I have dry eyes.
I don't think I would depot everything....just a few smaller palettes, but I will keep the original packaging and number the shades if I do anything so I can put them back if I want to. Maybe this feeling of wanting to depot and condense is my way of telling myself that I have too much and my mind doesn't like the clutter. But I honestly can't think of any of the palettes I would want to let go of.
😂 Sounds like I need to do some mindfulness for myself and figure out what I want.
Hi Erin , love your videos , you could depot and keep the packaging from the shadows for like 6 mos and if you change your mind you can move them back . I’m trying so hard to lot buy palettes unless they give me the “Feels “ and then I have to check my collection for other similar palettes . If it truely is unique I still wait a bit to see if I change my mind . It’s so easy to feel like you have to have something when all the creators are talking about them but the hype ends and so does the WANT in most circumstances. ❤
I'm thinking about doing a trial run of putting shadows into z palettes!
I feel you with the temptation! I also ask myself, if I do get "the feels" or FOMO about something...I ask, how long will the feeling last, will it still feel good when I have another palette in my collection that isn't getting used much, and is that feeling worth the cost of the palette, or even the declutter cost if I end up falling out of love with it. Asking myself that usually helps! Also delaying the gratification! I looked around the new section on Ulta's website last night and wasn't excited about any of it!
I think I have slimmed down a lot of the people I watch on RUclips to ones that aren't pushing products and encourage us NOT to buy if we don't absolutely love something! And I hope I can be one of those people for you! ❤️
My husband bought me the beauty bay palette for Valentine's Day, but that is the only thing to come in. And i am doing great. Eyeshadow again is my only struggle, but I'm using a new palette and blush that has gone untouched within my collection, daily for work. It is exciting to find things i love, as well as things i know i can declutter and pass on for someone else to enjoy. The hoarder mentality has really started to diminish since I'm using my collection and seeing that things take forever to use up. I'm also finding out if okay to let go things, even if they're from your favorite brand. I do not wear a ton of blue or vivid green shadow, so i certainly do not need a palette with 42 shades of green. As before i would think but it is your favorite formula. So yes the no buy is working.

I just filmed my eye shadow collection and the amount of palettes I have with similar color stories is shameful! 😂 I start to realize it myself about half way through and I kept thinking to myself, what the hell, Erin! 😅
Totally agree! Once my focus changed to using my collection, I’ve noticed I’m not getting as excited about the new things as I normally am.
I depotted all of my magnetic palettes into z pallets, and I get so much more use out of my shadows that way. It’s much easier then pulling out multiple palettes when doing my makeup. Love it and want to finish my collection that way.
yes, I started doing the same. And sometimes I create a smaller palette with 4-9 shades just to change things up. But I'm loving it.
I might try it with some of my palettes, like the Viseart ones like I mentioned. 😬 I'll have to see how it goes! Thank you for the encouragement!

I couldn’t help myself! LOL! But!!! After I use up the Hard Candy primer that I have, the only primers I will have will be the ELF and of course I will be on a primer no buy for a WHILE 😂

Are you a Star Wars purist, or did you just not like that particular movie? I am also a Star Wars Geek but not a purist.
Not a purist either, it’s just that movie. How they (Disney and the writers) ended the tale of the Skywalkers is so disappoint and also a slap in the face of people who grew up loving Star Wars. There was so much material they had from books and graphic novels that are Lucas approved that they could have pulled from instead of changing everything with Ep 7-9.

Thank you!! 😭 I don't want to come off too preachy, or ramble on about things no one cares about, but there is so much we don't know about how the medical system works, and as someone who wants to help (and has devoted my career to helping), it's hard to work within the system that we have!

Thank you for the feed back!! I'm thinking about trying it with just my Viseart palettes (only 3 of them) and I do "force" myself to use my shades with my no pan left behind. But I totally get where you are coming from. Before I did my no pan left behind, I did neglect my single shades! ❤️
