⚠ Update!! Another piece of warning! The powders changed color under heat because they were getting cooked and the result was extreme hard pan. I used the dental tool to scrap off the top layer and the mattes are now back to normal, but there was some waste of the shadows. ❤
I'm glad you liked it! There was a reason that I did 3 of them off camera first incase it was a major fail. I have room for 5 more mini palettes in a regular 24 pan palette, and it has me thinking though! 😅
Oohhh, yay!!! I got to catch this before bed! Girl, I was totally geeking out watching this! 😂😂 I'm so happy that you filmed this!! Eye look is slamming! Love it!!
I was up way too late getting this up. It stalled the first time and I had to upload again. Good thing I had some good drama shows to keep me company. 😂
Years ago I depotted a bunch of duos, trios and quads. For each one, I peeled the sticker off the back and held the back of the compact over a lit candle and waited for the plastic to get soft. Then I pushed a large pin up through the semi-melted plastic, so the pan would be lifted out of the compact. It was a quick and easy way of depotting shadows in plastic compacts, and the shadow performance didn't seem to be affected. I also don't recall having any casualties doing it that way.
I did consider heating from the back, but the plastic is so thick on these palettes. Even with I drilled the holes in the back and heated it up and tried to push form the back, the glue was so strong that it didn't budge and I was scared of cracking the shadow from the back by pushing too hard.
I was so surprised to see your video I stopped everything on my cooking day to watch it 😂 Like, really, is it even possible ??? You did a very good job !!!! But I agree, it is not for me... Congrats for being the one and only vidéo on this topic. Have a good sunday. Bye from France.
Hello in France from Florida! Thank you for watching and dropping a comment! I am happy with how my shadows came out, but I would not recommend this to anyone else. Too big of a risk, but like you said, there are no other videos out there, even talking about the risks of depotting the mini ND palettes. ❤️
Great video! Love the detail, camera angles and all the time and effort you spent on this! I really wish ND would make her minis magnetic/without glue, as I am just not ready to take the risk (I usually dislike my repressed shadows), and I like the size and convenience of her mini palettes. Also, thanks for the idea of re-using the back palette sticker for naming the individual pans. I will definitely try that with other depotted palettes, as that would save so much time vs making my own stickers.
Thank you for the kind comment!! I wish the mini palettes were magnetic also! being able to take the shades out of the mid size palettes is so convenient. I don't like to mix my palettes/shades around, but if the palette broke, I would want to put them in a z-palette of some kind. I was able to save the Mini My Dream palette and put magnetic tape in the pan holes and make a magnetic 5 pan, so if I do want to travel with them, or mix and match, I can. ❤️
You are so brave for doing this. As someone who likes to keep her makeup as pristine as possible in their original boxes, I have to admit this was very hard for me to watch. I also wondered if the heat would degrade the shadows cos we're always told to keep products in a cool dry place. I may not benefit from this video but I still appreciate you showing us how this kind of depotting can still be done.
I totally understand! I like to keep my makeup very clean and organized and I don't even peel the plastic off the mirror on my palettes. 😂 I did put a pinned comment, that the heat did cause a layer of hard pan on the matte shadows that I had to crack/scrape off. So if I depot any more in the future, I want to be careful with the shadows. I'll do some looks in the upcoming weeks with the shades and do an update. ❤️
Erin, are those little holes at the bottom suppose to help push out the pan? Were they glued in? Could you try putting a couple of drops of alcohol to soften up the glue? Maybe it’ll help loosen the pan.
I drilled those holes in the back and tried to push them from the back, but that glue would not budge. 😢 But I just put pieces of a thin magnetic sheet into the Mini My Dream so I can do my own 5 pan now. 😊
I thought about this, but I worried about the formula changing. If I did repress them, I would look for pans that are the same size as the mid size palettes. None of my minis had the cream to powder formula in them, but I would also worry about that formula changing with repressing. If I could repress them without using rubbing alcohol, then maybe.
I was so annoyed by the two minis I had having their packaging break. I was going to heat release them, but my husband just drilled a hole in the back of each one and I poped them out. I lost a couple but not too many. I wish ND would just make those minis with removable pans......
YES! With her already raising the price, I wish they were removable from the start! I drilled holes in the back too, but it did not help with the ones I was working on 😅. I'm just happy that it's all done and I show my full palette in my upcoming video on the 25th. ❤️
Aren’t Natasha Denona palettes magnetic? You can just stick a little sharp tool through the back where the holes are, or are these different from her usual?
The mid size and large size are. The mini palettes are glued and my palettes have holes in them because I drilled holes in them. The pans in the minis are also smaller than the mid size, so they are not interchangeable.

This is so satisfying, and I love seeing people depot things that haven't been done before 😍
I'm glad you liked it! There was a reason that I did 3 of them off camera first incase it was a major fail. I have room for 5 more mini palettes in a regular 24 pan palette, and it has me thinking though! 😅
I love the idea of depotting and it’s so relaxing to watch but I could never lol
It was fun and rewarding to do, but I would not recommend it to others. ND should really just make them removable.
@@erintaylorwrites the midi palettes are. It would be so nice if the minis were too. Imagine the options!

I’m so into makeup violence aka depotting 😅❤ loving these videos and getting ready to bleep my 💩 up!
makeup violence! 😂 that's awesome! Glad you enjoyed me destroying those palettes. ❤️

I just got home from my 60 hour work week and I'm thrilled to see this.. I'm not a depot girl yet, but I see some colour Pop shades I might do soon.
At least the ColourPop ones are magnetic and easy to take in and out. 😂 Hope you get to do some relaxing now the you are home. ❤
Perfect video for a relaxing Sunday morning in the uk
Hope you are well in the UK and I'm glad that it was relaxing. ❤️

Thank you for doing this! I was considering depotting mine but this video has made me realise it’s outside my capabilities 😅😅
I wanted to be super honest with this video so people didn't break their shadows and ruin their palettes. ❤️
So satisfying. I would love to depot mine but like you said it is a big risk
HUGE risk! I need to pin a comment with an update as well.

Would it be better to just crush all the shadows and repress them into new pans? Or would that ruin all the shadows?
That’s what I do now when I repress. I don’t have enough patience to get the pans out anymore.
Good to know. Ty!
The lid on my ND Mini Biba palette broke last week so I thought about doing depotting it. After watching this…NOPE.
Yeah...it's a bit of a task. One of my lids broke a few weeks ago, which made me try out the depotting.
I was so annoyed by the two minis I had having their packaging break. I was going to heat release them, but my husband just drilled a hole in the back of each one and I poped them out. I lost a couple but not too many. I wish ND would just make those minis with removable pans......

Oooh that makes sense! I thought these were the normal sized 5 pan palettes.
@@rachelirisbeauty I wish the mini's were magnetic, LOL, it would have made this process so much easier!
Wow! Thank you so much Erin for creating this resource for those brave enough to take on this type of project! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
LOL, I was like, how many ways can I tell people not to try this. 😂
