IMO when cheers started, Carla was considered the female Louie, eventually she became her own character, if Danny over appeared, I think the comparisons would start all over again.
Poor Louie. He really was slime, but you gotta feel for him here. What I thought was worse and out of line (I know it's only TV and makes for good for TV), but why come back years later just to invite all his workmates to her wedding and "break the news" to him first hand? Why open up old wounds? Disguise the reason she came back with BS. You wanted to tell him to pour salt in the wound.
In this particular scene Louie was too good for her.
