I stumbled upon these lectures by accident. I am making notes. This resonated so much and explained so much about the way I have been most of my life. Thank you.
Thank you for the work you do. It’s due to your work and Singularity as Sublimity channel that I’ve been able to understand Lacanian theory par excellence.
I wonder... what way out of Melancholia does Lacan offer? Is there an escape? The anomaly case mirrors my own experience almost perfectly. I learn about melancholia because I want to overcome it... but have yet to find it...
Also, if you havent read it I reccommend Cynthia Cruz's book Melancholia of Class. It is very good and she focuses heavily on the theme of 'twilight scenes' and being caught between the world of the living and dead. She talks of a ghostly existence, not quite dead, not quite alive either. Haunting stuff.
again, doesn't freud speak of the melancholic's self-bashing as a narcissistic inversion of the object, where the bashing is really directed towards the object?
