La Lot Bahn Mi, brilliant! I spent 3-1/2 weeks in Vietnam in 2001 with my buddy who did two tours during the American war with the Marines. We literally ate our way from Saigon to the former DMZ. Stumbled upon Bo La Lot at a roadside restaurant in Khe Sahn and instantly fell in love with it. I cannot wait to try that Bahn Mi, looks unbelievable! Thanks for the tour!
The French showed the Vietnamese how to make Baguettes, then they took it to an entirely new level! They truly make some of the best food on the planet! I'm not kidding!
For a regular Bun Rieu soup in Sai Gon, the sweetness can be from pork bones, dried shrimps, dried squids and crabs. It's my most favorite noodle soup. As a Vietnamese overseas, this is the kind of soup that I miss most. It is full of umami flavor.
Vietnam is a must for high level, sophisticated food people. Street food is just as serious there as it is in Thailand but they interpreted it in a whole different way.

Gary Bulter > Bún Bò Huế broth must especially add Shrimp Paste Huế during cooking. Shrimp paste mades the mix between little shrimp and pork and lot of ingredients then grind completely. Only Huế middle of vietnam has that little shrimps. Other area of vietnam also have the shrimps but those shrimps make for the paste not very fragrance and delicious.

As someone who lived in Vietnam for 5 years I have to comment, and I'm sorry if you dislike any criticism, I love your videos. Firstly, it's criminal mentioning Saigon and Pho, Pho is best in Hanoi, hands down. You also ate Pho without fried breadstick which is an absolute must. Secondly, please please don't convince people that only street food is good. Sure, for a few days, but eventually not everyone wants to sit on a small childs plastic stool on the street. There are hundreds of super high quality places that do it better than the street food. You can pay 30k for Pho on the street, but if you pay 50 you can have a comfortable seat in a restaurant and get higher quality. Every Vietnamese food video, especially from Max and the ginger guy, are ALWAYS street food. Not everyone lives like a pauper and in Vietnam and India you can eat at amazing restaurants for cheap. You can pick up Thai food or other high quality western food if you want a break from Vietnamese food for 3-4 dollars a meal at super nice restaurants. You can EVEN go to five star restaurants in Hanoi and Saigon and eat michelin level Vietnamese food for only $10-15. Why isn't this done?
I don’t mind a bit of constructive criticism mate, it’s all good. For me, I’m only in Saigon for two or three days at a time so I don’t need a break from street food but I do get what you’re saying. It’s the same for me in Bangkok, I don’t eat Thai food three times a day. There must be channels you can watch that go to 5 star restaurants?
@@theroamingcook but I’m not even talking five star. There’s so much more than just street food. Appreciate the honesty. And next time get the kuay with the pho! It’s a game changer.
