Check out "bitwa pod Grunwaldem" ( battle of Grunwald 1410, the battle was shown in a Polish film "krzyżacy" = the teutonic knights); each year there is a massive reconstruction of this medieval battle with many accompanying events; this year IT starts on 13th july, but the very battle reconstruction is on 16th july (saturday) :)

Clearly Olsztyn is in Warmia region.
Talking about physical geography has no sense here, because both Warmia and Masuria are not geographical regions but the historical ones.
The geographical region you are talking about pobably is Masurian Lakeland - however that is not 1:1 equal neither to Warmia nor Masuria.

Olsztyn Główny was supposed to be rebuilt years ago. Everyone here knows it looks bad and isn't the cleanest train station, most people say that it scares tourists away. There was a whole battle between local authorities and voivodships conservator of monuments, during which investors backed out. Fortunately city found a new investor and new station is in the works.

Hello 🤗, Since you are visiting the Masurian region, I suggest local cuisine, which in my opinion is the best in Poland and not every foreigner knows it. Ask some locals for the best restaurant with "Kartacz" (grapeshot in English or cepelinai) these are very delicious special type of Polish north-east dumplings with meat stuffing, This dish differs from typical Polish dumplings and is somewhat similar to the Lithuanian dish called "Cepelin", just try it, believe me, you won't regret it. Best Regards. 🤗😊

On a nice day def stop by Gizycko (or Mikolajki) and rent a sailboat with a skipper for a couple hours - it's not that expensive. Best is from Gizycko but you can do it from Mikolajki as well. You can also get a lake cruise from both towns. Experiencing the lakes from the water is the best. At night several taverns have shanty concerts - mostly during the weekends. Another not to be missed activity is a kayaking trip down the krutynia river with a tour guide.

Happy you liked Olsztyn. The train station was a nightmare for many many years but they finally managed to tear it down and start to build a new one after 20!!!! years of discussions about it. Also, in general, it seems half of the city is a under construction because they constantly improve something or start a new tram line... Another nightmare for car drivers and constantly jammed. But hey, the lakes are great, the river is great, you are so close to nature, so it definitly adds a lot to the quality of life.

Another Polish-Teutonic war 1519-1521. Copernicus was delegated to negotiate with the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Albrecht Hohenzollern, on January 4, 1520. Frombork, where Copernicus stayed, was attacked and burned by the Teutonic Knights on January 21 (the city where the astronomer died and is buried). The task of defending Warmia castles was placed on the shoulders of Copernicus. In 1520 he was appointed administrator of the Olsztyn estate (residing at the castle in Olsztyn). Albrecht Hohenzollern, losing the war, was forced to conclude a four-year truce on April 5, 1521.

Nie wiedziałem, że w Olsztynie jest takie ładne stare miasto 👍Byłem tam wiele razy w drodze na wakacje. Niestety dworzec mnie skutecznie zniechęcał do zwiedzania miasta. I spływ kajakowy rzeką Krutynią. Cudowne miejsce. Lasy kryją też duzo historii z czasów WW II jak Wolfschanze. Oby dopisała wam pogoda.

I think then city of Zgorzelec or Gubin is closer German border then Szczecin . In the region Warmia & Mazury ( I`m not count , but experts said ) are more then 3 000 lakes . But if you get real relax must to go to Bory Tucholskie ( Tuchola Forest ) . No very much tourists , natural enviroment and is pretty quait there . I`m really sorry for my english .

Great answers/ guesses hihi. Test at some points was difficult for me also. I’m sending my answers below.
Wonderful vlog guys, as always, thank you, and all the best for you.
    1. Capital -Warsaw
    2. I thought also that Warsaw is most densely populated city but according to google this are smaller cities around Warsaw, and then I thought it makes sence becouse Warsaw has biggest population but it’s also very big
    3. The most south is probably Zakopane
    4. Geographically closest to Germany must be Zgorzelec, city divided in two halves (one is Polish, one is German), German name of the city is Gerlitz
    5. Bajgiel is probably from Cracow
    6. Kalisz is the oldest Polish city
    7. The youngest city is difficult because theoretically at the beginning of every year several villages receives city rights, so we can check new cities from the 1’st January 2022, but at the same time they could function as villages for hundreds of years
    8. Zapiekanka is difficult again, because it is rather a nationwide creation, a baguette with various ingredients popularized in the 70s, the first Polish fast food. The name zapiekanka is difficult to translate directly, but it means “something baked”, and of the name story, simple as that hehe, in english it could be called bakedthing. Zakopane hehe yes for you sounds similar but Zakopane means “something buried” I like to think that it is because the city for many months of the year is covered with snow, and it is hidden between the mountains so that could be also an explanation, but history of the city name is bit different.

Great vlog as usual ! Good job, guys! Train station in Olsztyn is dirty, because government in a days is going to completely build new station. In 2 years you won’t recognize that it’s Olsztyn train station. Yes, Mazury are wonderful regions. Most of the lakes are connected. It’s a paradise for sailors, boats, kayak. As Zakopane is Winter Capital of Poland, then Mikolajki is Summer Capital in Mazury.
Your subscriber was right about Lublin, Kazimierz Dolny, Sandomierz or “perfect city” (according architects) Zamosc. I recommend it, too. But you are Guys so close to Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot. I recommend to go to Hel (😆). It’s a last town on peninsula helska . You’ll find out on map. Good luck, Guys.

Gdynia 1926. Also our white city (Like Rio or other exlusively modernist cities). However the earliest mention of the name (as a village) is from XIII century.
I just checked that if you want to count in the smallest towns then there is a handful of them as young as 5 years, but they also date back quite a long time.

In masuria two touristy cities are Olecko and Mrągowo (known of country music festival); ive got some relatives in Reszel with a little teutonic castle, interesting i think could be also Święta Lipka sanctuary near Kętrzyn :) i dont know if youre going more east to Suwałki and Podlasie in general, there i would recommend check out bridges in Stańczyki, Wigrylake with a nice monastery in the middle and touristy cities like augustow, Tykocin or Białowieża National park with bisons :)

Kalisz was almost completely destroyed by artillery fire by the Germans (Landswehr units) during the Great War, in August 1914. 90% of the old city was destroyed. The first war crime in the history of world conflicts took place here. In addition to artillery shelling, houses were set on fire one by one, women were raped and people were robbed on a massive scale. Of the 70,000 residents, only 5,000 remained. Basically, the city, a hub of trade, economy and production was turned into a village.
A description of the shelling can be found in the school reading which every child reads - the novel "Nights and days" by Maria Dąbrowska.
