I played an old/somewhat battered Yamaha acoustic today, in my local music store, which was strung with what felt like a 9 or 10 electric set. It sounded very good and played like a total dream. No rattles or buzzes at medium volume and great on intonation etc. It probably didn’t have as much strength, volume or projection etc as with heavier bronze strings, but sometimes you (I) have to face the fact that if a guitar is in any way hard to play, I’ll probably never play it. If it rattles a lot, the same. Getting the balance right is a never ending task.
Somehow strings of all things are my favourite parts of a guitar to talk about.. gotta collection of the packaging of every string I have ever used over the last 15 years.. today my respect for them has grown folds thanks to your videos .. understanding the rudimentary elements of strings = better setups ..

I've switched back to acoustic strings recently with Daddario 11-56 phosphor bronze & it opened up a new dimension on the Taki. My Next set is back to E.Ball but trying their Phosphor Bronze acoustic 13-56 Earthwood strings since the price was considerably lower🌴◇:*:◇🌴Greetings from⛾Florida🤳Brother😎🎱☮🔊🖖👍
Thanks for tuning it... and thanks for bringing up the point of similar gauge strings coming into play. I just ordered a set of 13-56 nickel strings for my Taylor acoustic. I actually want to play it. As expected, there is some loss of full deep tones with the nickel strings. That holds true for material choices in a guitar build. BUT.... you were able to bend the strings more easily... playability. Interesting that the action stayed the same. That's a really stiff guitar! Bronze strings are stiffer, so most guitar necks will take a bit of a tweak on the truss rod. I'm decades older than you, so my old hands will take playability over every tone at this point. ...Bronze strings on an electric is an absurd concept. I could walk to town instead of drive if I wanted to make life more difficult. Thanks for the vid... well done. ...and nice playing.
It still works may not be as bright most work for eather or, I used to do ernie ball slinky on my acoustic or dean markley blue steele. Never gone out and bought acoustic specific just used what I had and I had electric guitar strings
I've done that when I got a new Jasmine S35 Acoustic Guitar. It needed new strings so I was able to get away with the John Pearse Light Gauge Jazz Strings (String Set 2600), and they actually sound a bit like Silver Plated Copper Wound Strings so it's more of a Gypsy Jazz sound.
All I notice is some fret buzz because the electric strings are lower tension and the truss rod is set for the higher tension set. Bet if you tweaked the truss rod you’d notice very little difference.
@@DylanTalksTone it might be an advantage to not have a super rigid neck and no truss rod after all. But I also noticed you adjusted quickly by playing it more like an electric.
My carbon fiber acoustic (enya nova go) came with daddario 12’s. I switched it to a set of 10’s and it sounds great and feels much better. Plus, it didnt throw the intonation out (that blew me away). Now im wanting to try a set of my 8’s or 9’s from my electric guitars on it.
I've put electric strings on my acoustic. Feels nice. Slightly heavier gauge than I'd normally play on an electric, but its actually very comfortable and sounds good.
I have a question addressing the pick-up : I would think that the electric strings would not have as high a tension across the saddle, wouldn't that affect the sound of a piezo pick-up?
Same diameter string tension to pitch will be so close that your ears will not hear the difference between bronze and ferrous metals because of string tension. String breaking point could be different slightly different because bronze is the softer metal in string construction.
Nut and bridge CF too? How does massive changes in string sets affect those? Check up for minimizing variables wit CF guitar. Bronze also has a different tone than steel at least to my ears.
Been doing that because I usually play on Electric Guitar.. then when I changed to an acoustic guitar with an acoustic string.. the feel is so much different.. So I replaced my acxoustic guitar with acoustic string.. But I have to say, it's kinda slinky and I think it's just a BIT less louder and a BIT less warm.. but it's still ok.
the first time i did that was when i was just a student and can't afford a decent guitar. i have this unbranded chinese guitar that i bought cheap. the problem was the action was high. i already did everything from reducing nut to saddle but it didn't seem to fix it since it has no truss rod. what i did was i used ernie ball electric string .8 . it fixed my problem the string was so soft. but the problem with electric strings i have noticed even in my enya nova go sp1. is that they are hard to tune

My FG-180 has had nothing but 0.08s on it since I was a student and these were the only set I had around when my acoustic broke a string. Absolute revelation. It shimmered. So easy to play. Never went back.
I have tried this, putting 8's on one of my acoustic guitars.. feel wise it felt softer.. tone wise the bass has significantly sounded less on the acoustic.. but I am planning to go 10's on my acoustic and see how it sounds and feels
I have EB Slinky Pinky on my acoustic atm. Tried it for fun and I like the bright sound and playability.
DylanTalksTone Yeah the Core Wire on the Electric Strings is a tad bit thinner so the tension is a tad bit lower.

Ya Know what they can work as long as they're the same gauges as Acoustic Strings. Thomastik Jazz Swing Extra Lights might work.

Electric strings on flattops may not be common but acoustic archtop players have been doing it almost forever.
A crazy thought... Why don't you wind a thin pickup like a JM, and stick it under the strings at the neck just to try those strings on that guitar.

I actually play 14-60 NYXL on my D18 clone.
The mass of bronze is different than steel and makes a difference, but I don't hate the steel sound.
Used to use electrics on a Yamaha acoustic all the time. Made it a little easier to play.

I think it was a good idea when ever I get a acoustic guitar I’ll try it and let you know.
Every set of strings I ever bought said they were good on Any guitar. So I use my Ernie Ball ultra light strings on everything.

I only like strings that sound bright and metallic. Whichever those strings are, I don't really care.
