That will depend completely on your prep level before you start your gate preparation, have a complete roadmap with you as per resources you are required to follow, Eg: for solving maths problems in our junior classes, some students used to grab a concept by solving few problems but some required lots of problems to be solved to grasp that concept... And there are various methodologies as well which are required to learn new concepts... Other thing, till now how much you have already prepared in college + what more is required to be done, Accordingly make your personalised plan for prep

Agr 40 yr waalo ka layoff ho then it's fine, anyhow unk paas ab itni saving ho chuki hoti hai and usually people retire early in tech industry, I have seen such cases in my company people are retiring at this age, and if they get laid off then, surely they will get huge severance package, which is also a huge amount
