Hi Greg, any idea why the binding dashboard says steam is not available despite me being signed into steam. Also the edits I make to the bindings are unable to save, would I be correct to assume these two things are linked. Your expertise with this would be GREATLY apprietated. Thank you :)
I'm not really sure about this, I had a lot of problems with the steam bindings dashboard when I switched to unreal 4.26 It wasn't letting me change some of the bindings at all. I messed with it a lot including uninstalling and reinstalling steam. It finally started working again but I'm not sure what fixed it. I'd suggest making sure you are on the latest steam beta, maybe try deleting the steam bindings files in your unreal project (they get corrupted sometimes) and if that doesn't help try reinstalling steam. Every time there is a major unreal version update I've had problems with steam bindings of one kind or another, 4.26 seemed worse than others. I'm just not sure what the proper fix is.
Hey greg quick question. How did you get your talent marker to to maintain its moved position during the simulation after ending the simulation? Thanks!
At the moment my VPStudio project doesn't save these changes. I plan to add a "save game" function later, right now you might be able to use this approach docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/UI/LevelEditor/InEditorTesting/KeepSimulationChanges/index.html
Hey Greg, need helpover here, I have tweaked the codes and have my HMD detected ( there is no HMD) I can see my base and controller but as soon as I unplug the USB I loose the controller and the base.. what do I do wrong..?
Not clear on what you're trying to do, unplug the USB from what? If you are having vive issues you might want to upgrade to 4.26 so you can use livelink with VIVE (much easier). If you can explain the problem you're having a bit better I'll try to help.
@@GregCorson Thank u Greg. I have solved it but again let me confirm with you. I have 1 Vive Controller 1 BaseStation and NO DONGLE. SO as I unplug the vive controller USB from PC it goes offline so I have to keep it hooked to b able to use it. Q: Do you have any suggestions to buy a seperate Wifi dongle to use.?
The HMD has two receivers for the controllers built in. VIVE trackers come with a dongle that has a receiver (you need one for every tracker). I have heard the VIVE tracker dongle can have it's firmware changed so it will work with a controller, but I have not tried this. I've never seen the VIVE dongle sold separately though maybe on E-bay? The VIVE controllers and trackers will work over USB as you've found out. I don't know of any 3rd party dongle that will work, the VIVE doesn't use a standard WiFi or Bluetooth signal, it's custom.
It should be available on the window that pops up when you start steam vr. Click on the. steam menu->devices->manage vive trackers I'd post a screenshot but I can't do that here. I'm on steam 1.14.16 now.
Hey Greg, is this process the same in UE5.1? I'm attempting to set it up but the SteamVR Input icon doesn't appear in the main toolbar. Still researching but any ideas would be appreciated.
Actually this tutorial is rather old. Ever since, I think UE4.26, they do all the vive stuff without having to do all that mapping stuff. I haven't been using the VIVE much since UE5, I think they made additional changes to simplify input in 5 and 5.1. I believe the latest thing is called "enhanced input" there is info on youtube and epic's site if you just google that. I actually haven't used it yet.
You can use vive controllers to track your camera, they are just harder to solidly mount so they won't slip during shooting. There are some 3d printed mounts, some people have had some luck using a microphone holder or just liberal amounts of gaffers tape and rubber bands. The latest VPStudio has a setup for both tracking pucks and controllers.
Thanks for these videos Greg. Do I need a headset for this setup, or can I just get a couple of base station and a tracker to be up and running? Edit: Never mind, found the answer below, no but yes.
Correct, you can do it with just trackers and base stations but it is harder to setup because steam/vive really wasn't designed to be used without the headset. I think without the headset the origin of the tracking space is set to the position of one of the base stations which is rarely a convenient place for it to be. You have to jury-rig up your own system to offset the tracker positions to whatever tracking origin you want.
It is possible to use VIVE trackers without a headset and link box. I have not done it myself but others have (check the discord group linked in the lower right of my channel banner for help). It is much easier if you have a headset and link box.
Thank you very much, Greg. This is invaluable information.
This is Awesome Video and thank you verymuch Greg, really!
Thanks, the video is actually kind of old and Vive support has changed quite a bit, glad it still works.
Your tutorials are priceless! Thank you 🙏.
Glad you like them! Let me know if you have suggestions for future ones.
Super helpful. Thanks again for making this public!
Won't miss your video ever.
LEGEND !!!!!

I’m experience exactly the same issue

@@GregCorson Thank you. Much appreciated. As I do not have a HMD I will stick with USB connection as an indie for the time being :-) . Thank you.
