In real life, Barbara Graham wore a sleeping mask for a blindfold when she was executed. Her exact words to the guard who suggested she take deep breaths was, "How the hell would you know?" As she died foam formed from her mouth, her bladder and bowels emptied into her clothes.
@@joker_storm2232And that is where you are wrong on every level. It isn't a deterrent, it's not meant to be gruesome, and it is not allowed to be gruesome by law. Your comment basically sums up everything wrong with the death penalty.
In my opinion I think the best form of execution is firing squad because the chances of that going wrong is a billion to one. For instance poison gas is arguably the most dangerous and complexed method of execution because the inmate dies in a very violent matter and it can time for the inmate to die and it is also dangerous for the executioners to remove the body due to the fragments of poison gas thus they wait wait till an hour or so. The electric chair can easily go wrong such as inmates being caught on fire or bleed heavily as was the case with Allen Lee Davis in 1998 in Florida. Hanging can go wrong with inmates being strangled to death rather than breaking their necks. Even lethal injection can be botched as inmates can suffer severe pain and feel ‘burning’ and in rare cases the needles popping out. However with the firing squad the inmate is shot at by several officers simultaneously and dies within seconds.
I don't even think a firing squad is necessary. All you need is one gun firing one bullet right into the brain stem. That's as close to instant death as you can get. When I was deployed to Iraq I saw it happen a few times during firefights. Sometimes we'd make damn close contact with insurgents, especially in towns and cities. Seeing bad guy getting drilled right in that sweet spot put their lights out immediately. So when they dropped it was almost like they were falling into themselves. Losing 100% of their muscle tone in less than a second they'd fall like a puppet that had its strings cut. It was pretty bizarre, I had no idea a person could drop like that. But it was certainly an instant death which given the situation didn't seem all together that bad.
@@Doabubba Oh yes. Things could be downright surreal in that place. During deployment. I'd sometimes find myself thinking about my high school friends. They were in college getting laid and doing keg stands. Meanwhile I...to put it mildly, was not lol. That’s Catholic, a born again Christian never wants anyone in fear or suffering. Very few true Christians nowadays. If someone wants death and suffering, it is NOT from Jesus.
Americans are sick and mentally behind. They even infected hundreds of people on purpose with Syphilis before WW2 and denied them any treatment, never told them about Penicillin that became broadly aviable. This experiment lasted for *40 years.* And that was just one of many American atrocities.
American here, and I quite agree: the epitome of American cruelty and stupidity. 1) They call that a "gas" chamber. It isn't. HCN is a liquid, not a gas. Its boiling point is a few degrees above what is normally considered "room temperature". That means it condenses on any cold surface. It would get into her clothes. Even if she was naked, it would still get in her hair. 2) HCN isn't all that toxic. It is, in fact, a neurochemical transmitter that neurons naturally produce. The lady in that scene wouldn't take a few breaths and just die. It takes a helluvalot longer, and is a good deal more grusome. 3) HCN is inflammable to the n_th degree. The flash point is -17.5 deg C. It forms explosive mixtures with air. By the time the atmosphere was rich enough in HCN to poison her, that chamber would be a bomb just waiting to go off. The slightest spark, and the resulting explosion would likely level the entire building. HCN is slao known to self detonate for no apparent reason. That's how a lot of workers in 19th century cyanide plants died: self detonation. This explains why it is that all production methods produce sodium or potassium cyanide, and not hydrogen cyanide. This is also why the Gatterman Reaction was mosified to use ZnCN, and not HCN. AFAIC, the dumbass that designed that contraption should have been the first to take it for a test drive. It wouldn't be that difficult to equip the chamber with a exhaust fan, and then fill it with nitrogen, and it would be considerably more humane.
The last person executed in NC in the gas chamber chose that method. He was betting the law suit he filed would convince the powers that be would to stop the execution saying it was cruel and unusual punishment. His plan b 5:44 ackfired, and he died a long, protracted painful death. We now have lethal injection. Executions have been on hold for more than a decade and may never be resumed.
Yes she was. Barbara Elaine Graham, Emmett Perkins and John Santo were convicted of murdering an wealthy elderly widow in Los Angeles and as a result all three of them died in the California Gas Chamber. Barbara Elaine Graham was one of 4 women who were executed in the California Gas Chamber at San Quentin, these 4 women were Evelita Juanita Spinelli, Lofie Louise Peete, Barbara Elaine Graham, and Elizabeth Ann Duncan.
If you’re referring to the woman being executed, how the gas chamber would work in the US is that under the chair she was strapped into, potassium cyanide or sodium cyanide pellets would be dropped into sulfuric acid, thus creating hydrogen cyanide gas. She then inhaled the gas, which leads to asphyxiation. The inmates are instructed to breathe deeply to speed up unconsciousness; if the procedure went correctly, the inmate would fall unconscious in a few seconds and die in a few minutes. An inaccuracy in this though is that in this clip the gas isn’t visible whereas in real life it is. However, many inmates would hold their breath as long as possible and everyone’s body is different, so inmates could sometimes go through several minutes of gasping and convulsing in pain before falling unconscious and dying. Thus the method is no longer the primary method of execution in any state. Its reputation has also likely been hurt by the fact gas chambers were used in the holocaust (most gas chamber states adopted the method before the holocaust).
@@pluto6383 Arizona has just refurbished theirs and has bought chemical to use it. Will be interesting to see if they do, that is going to cause a storm of condemnation. Frankly anyone who volunteers to watch it is frankly very unwise. Surely the stuff nightmares are made of.

It's much more graphic and brutal, the real gas chamber execution. For starters, it wasn't unusual for the head to just pop off the neck. Just jump out, due to stress and worry. Second, for those whose heads didn't just randomly pop out, the gas release would cause the skin to burn and lungs to turn inside out. Blood projectile vomiting and insane singing would take place, followed by, you guessed it, head popping out. Then the heart would stop several times, sometimes even pumping blood backwards. Limbs would become stiff and the condemned would poop himself. The last possible outcome would be fire from self combustion due to a reaction between tears of sadness and the gas.
