      Tough one really, it's all about what you prefer to do and what you are capable of doing. The results of the psychometric test will show you what branches you can do. Its all down to preferences each branch has elements of getting hands on. Pay wise engineers are on a higher tier of pay due to the complexity of the job. Its all about what you want to do and seeing what roles within the armed forces fit that!

    Hi Callum,
    I've been watching your videos as I'm going through the recruitment process (I'm at the very beginning of it), and wanted to thank you for your content as I've found it really helpful to have a better idea of what it's going to be like.
    I did have another couple of questions that haven't really been answered.
    - What kind of jobs do you do when you're off ship? Only asking as you've mentioned before that you find it boring.
    - Once you've done all your basis training, phase 1 and 2, how quickly are you being deployed?
    - On average, how often do you get deployed within a year?
    - When on ship, do you have your own room or is it shared?
    - What is the phone policy like off and on ship (Communication with family/friends)?
    - What clothing are you given during phase 1 training (what uniform do you get) and what are you due to bring to HMS Raleigh?
    Thank you for your great videos and I'll be looking forward to the rest of your content and hopefully you could answer some of my questions😅.
    Thanks Callum.

      Living on a ship doesn't cost anything and your three main meals are provided. Shore establishment are slightly different depending on what type of accommodation you get, I don't think I have ever paid more than £90 for my accommodation. That comes straight from your paycheck. If you ten go to the galley for your 3 core meals then you won't be spending more than £10 a day on food, unless you get a chefs special or anything other than the core meal. Food during phase 1 is free

    Can you talk about having a car, I’m waiting for a start date but really wanting to get a car. Does it feel like a waste of money if you pay monthly or outright for one when you’re on deployment as it’s not getting used. Traveling to base and leaving it there to go on deployment for months? Not sure how it all works. Thanks

    • @CallumFrogley
      @CallumFrogley  4 года назад +1

      Seems like a popular question. I learned to drive and bought my first car within the first year of bring in the military at 17 years old. I have had a car ever since, I sold my car when I went on deponent with the plan to buy a new one on return. Apart from that I have always had one. They are super useful to transport your kit wherever you may need it especially if you have to move at short notice. I advise leaving your car at a friend's or family during deployment and SORN it. This way they can turn it over once in while. If you pay it off all in one or monthly it doesn't really matter. You could probably buy the car in full when you return from deployment!

    Great video! I passed my interview last September, I’m currently 17 years old awaiting my official date to go and do my phase 1 training. I have applied to be a weapons technician (submariner) I was wondering if you had any insight on the submarine branch and any insight on weapons engineering. I am also curious as to what the daily fitness routines in phase 1, 10 week training is like? Keep up the good work👍

    • @CallumFrogley
      @CallumFrogley  4 года назад

      Weapon engineer covers a massive spectrum. We have Communication, sensors and weapons on a surface ships and these 3 groups usually stick to there area of expertise. On a submarine you will be doing slightly more of a mixture of those 3 when it come to maintenance. You will have a much better understanding of all systems on board compared to a surface ship.
      Phase 1 fitness training is a mixed bag of outdoor activities to gym hall circuits. Lots of running is involved as you can imagine. You will usually do 4/5 sessions a week.

All service police follow the same training with echos PACE 1984 (Police and criminal evidence act ) general police work GPD with the RNP can be dull as the work is not that varied JPA fraud petty thefts etc. The Army Police RMP has a much more varied range. As Gavin says they aren’t well liked however that is because originally people were sourced from different branch’s that they were unsuccessful in. So sometimes have a chip on the shoulder. @CallumFrogley  2 месяца назад

      Warfare officers have many important roles on board, this can range from fighting the ship using its vast range of weapon systems to navigating it through some of the world's busiest channels. Your beginning as a young officer will see you completing many hours on the bridge shadowing an officer of the watch in order for you to gain the experience needed to take control of the bridge team and navigate the ship yourself.
      Further career aspect can see you becoming a Principle Warfare Officer (PWO), Fleet navigator, Gunnery officer (small ships), Executive officer or even Commanding Officer of a vessel.

      Run more than the 1.5 miles do 3 miles at least. RNFT is actually easy if you train for it. Run at least three times a week for at least 35 minutes. Remember to dress for the occasion and wear trainers designed for sport not fashion. Remember you are aiming for a 10 minute run at best effort, if you have already doubled that distance you will be laughing. I can still pass it with a time of 9.44 and I am officially old.

    In your interview video you said about "mechanics pay" what is this.

    • @K7UK
      @K7UK 3 года назад

      Engineers Retention pay. You get an extra few quid a day on top of your core salary that increases with rank. I believe it starts at Leading Hand.
      Also certain jobs such as being an Aircraft Engineer Technician puts you in the third tier pay band, which will see you earn slightly more than other branches in the Navy.

    • @d-paddan5393
      @d-paddan5393 3 года назад

    • @K7UK
      @K7UK 3 года назад

      @@d-paddan5393 It's based on a few things. One major aspect to why a branch is placed in a certain pay band is what the individual has to overcome to achieve their task. For instance certain engineers are paid in a higher pay band due to signing for work that could potentially put the air/sea vehicle at risk.
      Also due to the length of training and qualifications attained, it's in the best interest of the Royal Navy to hold onto highly trained personnel in fear of them leaving for jobs that pay similar in civilian street. This extra pay also offsets the salary to match competitive jobs in civilian street.
