Damn! His facial expressions are amazing! The way his eyes shift, his face contorts, the devious smile, and the jerky movements; it's all so perfect! He really does look like a mad scientist looking upon and analyzing a strange monster dance party that has suddenly occurred! XD And he does a spectacular job transitioning between faces of different characters in the story! I used to think the song was cute but lacking a good beat, but oh MAN, this guy's acting MAKES the song!
Agreed, I've been listening to this song since the late 70s when I was a kid but never saw a performance, and man this guy sells the hell out of that performance, just top notch!
Ol' Bobby looks a little like Dick York from "Bewitched" What a great memory. This was so huge at our halloween parties when I was in High School in the early sixties. Thanks so much! Joseph F
Bobby Pickett was the uncle of three of my friends. He could do many voices, and when he left a message on the answering machine at home, it was always a laugh! RIP 'Boris'!
As a school bus driver, i was challenged to sing by the bus, a week before Halloween. I choose to sing the "Monster Mash". The kindergarten to 5th graders thought I would do mthe adult thing and opt out. Before opening the door to let them out, they chanted for me to sing. The lady who gets the kids off the bus was wondering what was happening as well as a mother who was bringing a back pack her son forgot. I started to sing in the Boris Karloff voice. When I finished they cheered.
ABSOLUTELY fantastic...never seen this before and I was THERE when it came out first day....WOOOF what a SMASH it was...I have that original record......loved this so much...He was a NATURAL spirited and really INTO HIS SONG.....I am sure JIM CAREY had to know this BBPicket......the REVERSE of this 45rpm is just as GREAT....MONSTER MASH PARTY.....I hope it's on here too.....it is PERFECT and I have used both for halloween parties thru the years...LOVE THIS and THANKS... KEN
Maybe Karloff did? Pickett is lip synching. THere is a video of him performing this on a Dr. Demento anniversary special. He is not lip synching nor does he sound anything at all like Karloff.
A rock and roll classic from American Bandstand.... the forerunner of music videos. They pantomimed their own records to a live audience of dancing teenagers. It was so cool!
My wife graduated from Somerville High School in 1954 and was a casual friend of Bobby Pickett.......That school was on a hill in Somerville Massachusetts and That's why the school teams were called HILLTOPPERS.......
This clip is from the Lloyd Thaxton Show in L.A. Being from L.A. we would go over there after school to be on the show dancing. It started in the 60's and went for quite a while. Search on RUclips under Lloyd s name to see some good acts of that ear if you want.
He looks like he TRULY LOVES singing this song!!! It has become the number ONE(1) HALLOWEEN Theme if ALL time with Ghostbusters running a close 2nd & Thriller brings up the rear!!
Most songs that are this old I find to be terrible, probably because they came out too far before my time(I was born in 84). However, this is one of the few exceptions. I love love LOVE this song! Bobby Pickett's voice is spot-on perfect! This is a classic in every sense of the word.
I wish that the person who copied this from the 4" Quad master tape was able to surprises the time code rather than having to blur it out. But it is a GREAT video nonetheless and thanks for posting it! :)
He kind of reminds of the the late Phil Hartman, of SNL - which I could picture Phil doing a song like this - with all the skits and characters Phil Hartman did. Phil was so talented - for those of you here who remember him. Anyway, just chiming in here.
went to a halloween wedding about 20 years ago . bobby borris picket was there, it was pure coincidence , he happened to be a friend of the bride`s mother. he pretty much sat by himself. he didn`t know very many people there. guess which tune [the greatest halloween tune] the d.j. didn`t play. it was obvious and sad.
Awesome - a Halloween smash! IMO his facial expressions were intentional, to lend to his act and help him conjure up monsters. After all this was still the early 60's.
Wow! Bobby Picket. Incredible talent. Never goes out of style.
Bobby's legend will never die and his song will be heard by many generations to come
I first heard it at a party in 1972 and bought the single, which I lost.
Its great to find it on You Tube after all those years!
Great song!
Bobby was a good performer I like his facial expressions.
Fifty years later, this song is the best Halloween song of tthem all!
Getting close again 🎃 24
Such talent, that was amazing

This is so cute! I liked his expressions! And this song is one of my favorite Halloween songs!
I loved this song as a little kid and had it memorized! Honestly, if I made a top 30, maybe even top 20, best songs ever, this would be in there!
Ol' Bobby looks a little like Dick York from "Bewitched" What a great memory.

Awesome!!! A very clever song!
Bobby Pickett was the uncle of three of my friends. He could do many voices, and when he left a message on the answering machine at home, it was always a laugh! RIP 'Boris'!
I LOVE the facial expressions! This makes the song even better! (A hard thing to do!)
RIP and long live Bobby Pickett (February 11, 1938 - April 25, 2007), aged 69
You will always be remembered as a legend.
I remember learning this song when I was little. It's one of my favorites. Bless Bobby "Boris" Pickett!

Maybe Karloff did? Pickett is lip synching. THere is a video of him performing this on a Dr. Demento anniversary special. He is not lip synching nor does he sound anything at all like Karloff.
bullshit he is. my parents got to meet him once and he did a part of it outside
DId he do it in Karloff's voice? The last several times he did it, he did not do it in Karloff's voice but used his own.

Bobby's so cool. Love this song!
He’s pretty good! I Just Love that Melody!

AWESOME
The funny thing is, he's actually a good looking guy when he doesn't do the faces.
Terry Tanktop I kindly disagree. The face makes the man.

+gene endres When you mentioned he must have passed away, he did pass away from complications of leukemia
such a funny song !!! it's the same age as I am !!! OMG !!!!
when he is out of character he is a handsome guy
That's not easy to do, especially switching voices like that almost instantaneously. Voices performed: Boris, Dracula, Igor. I'm impressed.
