How to perfect the backward Inverted Mohawk transition on inline skates from backwards to forwards

  • Asha continues her Online Coaching series of tutorial videos using real skaters' videos to analyse movement patterns, sharing technique and help skaters at a similar level to master their advanced backwards to forwards mohawk transition.
The inverted mohawk is different from the normal heel-to-heel back to front mohawk because the feet invert (toe-to-toe) instead. This is what gives it the smooth and unusual effect.
Mar from Alicante (excuse the mistake in the audio) has made excellent work with this not easy skill and she just needed a few comments to give her more fluency and and flow. But it's impressive what she managed to learn this transition using the Skatefresh How to Skate Advanced online course.
The transition is made of 2 parts.
    1. The backwards inverted T-slide through 90 degrees of turn (weight on the leading skate).
    2. Changing legs and shifting the weight onto the new forwards leg (in toe roll to facilitate this weight shift).
The full lesson for this skill is part of the "How to Skate - Advanced" Online Course. You can trial this course with the Free Barrel Roll lesson to see if you like the format (see link below short Bio).

And you Mar are one of my best students! I'm so proud of what ou have achieved with your hard work and dedication. I love our skate space in Alicante (not Valencia as I said in the video) and I wish I could be there to train with you in person. Keep skating and let us know how those suggestions for your practice and homework go, OK?

Asha is more than a great teacher. She never fails to teach the best quality tutorial. Watching this as I start again practicing from injury makes me motivated to be an advance skater. For now, I am learning the her basic tutorial about posture, how to move forward and how to stop. Thanks Asha and the team!

Well done for now skating with professional instructions and investing in your skating journey and not leaving it to luck or chance. Everything is learnable and doable with structured steps and processes. Skating isn't easy despite it looking so when well done. Finding the micro improvements and celebrating those while keeping the frustrations and impatience at bay. This is part of the Jenny and makes us better humans to ourselves and others I think as we appreciate our efforts and the skills of others. Keep at it! You are getting there, one stride at a time.

I'm seeing this as a comfortably intermediate skater and it's so incredible how you can instantly identify and prescribe what changes need to happen! I figured out the movement thru trial and error and my method was just so incredibly inefficient and stochastic!

Skating is SUCH a technical sport and so many parts of the body that need controlling and doing the correct thing at the right time. It's complex, it's no wonder new moves take most people a very long time to learn when self-taught. I always recommend skaters try and get instruction whether its online or in-person as this really does save precious time and make for faster more efficient learning.

You can do it! Don't judge the time it takes, just be in the moment and focus on what you're doing and time will become irrelevant. That's one of the joys that skating gives us.....a relief from the burdens of normal time. Enjoy the process. Gold lies there.
