- Lamy just released two new inks and two new Safari pens! I was able to get most of them from Atlas Stationers (thanks, affiliate-code-users!) and the rest from Crazy Alan's Emporium (our local pen shop). I also popped something else new into the cart, and I unbox all of that here.
I'll have reviews of these pens and inks coming VERY soon to the channel. VERY. Soon.

LAMY Dark Lilac is coming this Spring 😊
March, I heard. It's slightly different from the original, but I'll totally get a bottle.
Stilo e Stile in Italy has it, and I think Appelboom in The Netherlands too. They ship to the US. Just be aware it's not the original Dark Lilac. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed if they expect the original.
I too bought the Violet Blackberry pen and mine didn’t show traces of ink on my fingers or paper. But when I ran water though it, a lot of blue did come out.
I did get my pen along with some Blackberry ink cartridges as the bottled version is no longer available in Europe. However, the new Dark Lilac is available and I got a bottle of that. Both inks are a nice dark purple. But I personally prefer the green sheen on the Dark Lilac. Even getting it with a fine nib. When writing with the Blackberry on a medium nib, I get no sheen.
The new Dark Lilac is very smeary. I wrote something on Thursday morning and when I wrote more in the evening, my fingers had the tiniest amount of sweat and smeared a lot of bright purple from the writing from the morning. Never had that with the black ink from Lamy cartridges.
Update: just checked. Even when I think my finger aren’t sweaty, when I push a bit on a written part with Dark Lilac and then move, it smears. A single water/sweat molecule seems enough to smear it.
The blue is totally normal and intended. Not something worry about, and I don't even clean it out unless I'm using a very light ink first.
I'm not surprised that moisture will make sheeny inks smear. Water is the universal solvent, after all. A dry finger doesn't seem to make mine smear, though.
Love my new Lamy Safari fountain pen in Violet Blackberry & got the ballpoint pen for a dear friend. 😊
I have two Lamy (Safary and All Star)
The safari special edition of 2024 looks more kids suited in my eyes.
If they deside later this year to offer us 4 pens and made 2 more but in solid colors of the barrels, i will get those.
To be fair, I think the Safari was originally aimed at a younger audience in general. Perhaps it's mostly German teens who really buy these over there?
@@inkdependence That's true, safari was originally designed for students. They have other more expensive models aimed for adults.
Cliff is beautiful.. I love a dark blue ink. Great vid.
I put Wearingeul Captain Hook in my black 580 ALR - a beautiful red.
I ended up filling it with Teranishi Antique Black, which is actually a very very dark brown. It's kinda great.
I have been using the ALR 580 Black for a few weeks now, and I'm surprised how wet it is, been using drier inks to compensate.
Oh yeah? What nib and inks have you been using? I've found my 580s to be pretty normal. I have the broad nib on this one, and it feels good so far.
I always clean a new Lany pen and I've never bought a new Lamy that didn't have some blue ink residue in the nib.
That's a good policy. I didn't clean these before I used them, but the base inks are much darker than Lamy Blue, so I wasn't worried about contamination.
Hear me out: Imagine that black ALR..... with gunmetal hardware!
That would be a gunmetal ALR. 😆
@@inkdependence well, I mean it would still be black, but with gunmetal clip and nib and whatnot. Basically everything silver would be gunmetal.
I also had an 'I don't like purple phase' but I think I was 13yo
Glad we escaped!
