Chris Storey, former guitarist of All Shall Perish. Kind of an underground guitarist but he's AMAZING, and very similar style to Rusty Cooley. He said he just plays what sounds cool :P
Page was a session musician playing jazz stuff. So he definitely knew theory. Not sure about Hendrix, but George Lynch said one time in an interview that he knew it.
I think they used it but weren't aware what they were doing is called. They knew what they wanted to hear and how to do it, but I doubt page was like "Hmmm, Lydian sounds swell with this Maj7(#11)"
Dude, I know almost everything there is to know about page, and yes he was a session musician, but he played on tons of pop/rock albums like stuff from The Kinks etc.
@Gmeister616 I recognize that but I'd say it has to do with the fact that sometimes you can't really play it well, but you get away with it playing it fast, especially with distortion and all.
@amjan there isnt any, its just how he talks. hes saying a lot of other information, but it doesnt seem like anyone is paying much attention because they keep focusing on how he speeks rather than what hes saying. "style" over "substance."
See, that's the thing with musical tastes. Let's put it this way: You love Bulb, I love Periphery. None of the aforementioned views will make any of these groups undeniably better or worse over the other. Avoid statements, favour opinions. If your comment was intended to be an opinion ignore this post.
Bb maj 9 - with maj 3 and maj 7 (assuming drop d - however I think this actually in drop C so it would be A maj 9) 8-8-10-7-10-x Root Fifth Ninth Third Seventh
@ArseLoad0fMetal666 It's not a fad man, fads don't have this kind of input in the metal scene. The speed at which this style grew from 2005 to now is crazy, i mean Metalcore became really big really really fast, but then it started shrinking. But djent keeps growing. It's a really rythmic form of metal and even if it never becomes recognized as it's own style the influence it already had in metal will stick around as long as metal will.
not a djent fan as i feel it will unfortunately become another fad genre, but i rlly feel this is real music from real ppl. Not like this whole metalcore and deathcore fad that is more about haircuts, hipsters and trying to mosh thn anything else....Misha fucking rocks at guitar too

@Gmeister616 Man I play Clarinet (as well as Bass) and some songs are easier played fast than slow and they're not metal obviously. haha. Know what i'm sayin'?
Quite the contrary.Jimi Hendrix knew theory and regardless wasn't afraid to go outside the boundaries.Interestingly enough,Allan Holdsworth doesn't know the theory.
@ArseLoad0fMetal666 I know that, None is the original djent album, EP rather. Gods of Rapture and Aztec Two Step own djent. I just don't think it's a genre. It makes no sense to me to call it one.
@amjan Very true, however people are trained in public speaking, clearly Misha has not recieved such training haha. The point of my comment was that people are not focusing on the subject of the actual video but on the speaking habits of the person in the video. While he fits the defintion of someone speaking publicly, I do not consider him a public speaker.
I'm like, ya know, sorta, ya know, kinda perplexed as like, ya know like, erm, tapping like notes like ya know, erm, sorta' like erm.. No, I don't fucking (like) know.
People do not compare Periphery with Meshuggah. Messhuggah is excellent band but Periphery has more melody, beautiful riifs, and much more musical creativity,
Dude that tone is so dope.
1:11 DAT SUBTLE WINK
that signature chord around 3:40 is a major 9th for anyone who wondered. Very pretty.
That little wink at 1:11
Very talented guitarplayer right there
I WANT HIS TONE SO MUCH.
Tongue twister for your hands? You mean finger twister?

@EilithyaBand The Lowest Periphery tune is to Drop Ab on a 7 string
Awesome music Misha!
@MrCrazytater not a chord, its first fret on the low b then a dischord below
How does he get that clear of a tone I’m assuming at this time he’s using the ultra but what is he plugging it into
i couldn't possibly do that and dont want to but it sounds good when you do it rock on dude
Page was a session musician playing jazz stuff. So he definitely knew theory. Not sure about Hendrix, but George Lynch said one time in an interview that he knew it.
I like this clip!
awesome riff
omg dat tapping sounds so good
I think they used it but weren't aware what they were doing is called. They knew what they wanted to hear and how to do it, but I doubt page was like "Hmmm, Lydian sounds swell with this Maj7(#11)"
People are acting like djent is this brand new thing. Groove has been around forever.
@StaulkHolm But what's the substance of "like"?
well holy shit, i didn't realise just how technical periphery's stuff was. i am impressed :D
@KillsEngage not anymore. mayones 8 strings on the new album XDXD look at mishas soundcloud for a teaser.

@danukenator123 i agree with you. i almost blame Funk for djent. i mean its something that isnt a standard quarter note riff and its just "Groovy"
thank god your back :)
Angus Young, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, most blues players, the list goes on....
buttersnips's chorus is so fucking beautiful :D
and part 2?
@amjan
there isnt any, its just how he talks. hes saying a lot of other information, but it doesnt seem like anyone is paying much attention because they keep focusing on how he speeks rather than what hes saying. "style" over "substance."
also by the seal on the pickup
@pivetlord13 drop c for majority of the six string songs. i think the only six string songs that aren't are zyglorox and totla mad
See, that's the thing with musical tastes. Let's put it this way: You love Bulb, I love Periphery. what tuning does he use
I just want to know how to tap using chords without all the notes blending together
@StaulkHolm He is a public speaker. This is a public video watched by thousands of people.
Well that makes a lot of sense being that he writes all the songs.
what is the tune?
whats the tuning?
I think it's Drop C
What's the song in the beginning? !?
A song off of Periphery's first CD. It's called Buttersnips. It's the song he's actually teaching parts to in these first few lessons.
Eric Clapton himself said he just knows about 40 cool licks in the pentatonic scale.
What guitar he is using?
What chords is he tapping over?
Bb maj 9 - with maj 3 and maj 7 (assuming drop d - however I think this actually in drop C so it would be A maj 9)
8-8-10-7-10-x
Root Fifth Ninth Third Seventh
3:30 Deftones reference!!

what's with the noise gate on him talking.....
Dont know about the rest but Hendrix and Page knew theory.
@ArseLoad0fMetal666 Yeah djent is a form of guitar technique, not a genre. That's like saying sweeps are a genre or tapping is a genre.
I think Mark in Periphery said in a interview that he never learned theory either
not a djent fan as i feel it will unfortunately become another fad genre, but i rlly feel this is real music from real ppl. Not like this whole metalcore and deathcore fad that is more about haircuts, hipsters and trying to mosh thn anything else....Misha fucking rocks at guitar too

Groove metal is really just thrash metal with more of a rhythmic focus. What's your point?
I almost physically felt it the whole time lol
this is very innovative, not much innovation out there these days
@Gmeister616 Man I play Clarinet (as well as Bass) and some songs are easier played fast than slow and they're not metal obviously. haha. Know what i'm sayin'?
press 2 repeatedly for DJ Misha
bernie rico jekyll 7 string
1:11 Cheeky wink there Bulb
Hendrix didn't know theory, he said so himself. Page probably does.
Quite the contrary.Jimi Hendrix knew theory and regardless wasn't afraid to go outside the boundaries.Interestingly enough,Allan Holdsworth doesn't know the theory.
I count 6. 1:46
i wish i could say "hey im misha mansoor of periphery"
That chord..
Ofcourse it's not new, Meshuggah has been doing this shit for ages, they were playing "djent" in 1991 already... xD
@Scarbak123 And frak the gods
What is the Tab of that chord???
8-8-10-7-10-X
@ac1013dc You my friend are genius !
@PinkAsKitty
I suppose you're not a fan of jazz either :D
@ArseLoad0fMetal666 I know that, None is the original djent album, EP rather. Gods of Rapture and Aztec Two Step own djent. I just don't think it's a genre. It makes no sense to me to call it one.

His playing is sloppy here but these are interesting concepts. (not that he's the only person to think of it) But it's cool
That chord definitely looks like a pain. Looks like he's barring the root and fifth with his middle finger.
Djent is really just mixing grove metal with poly-rhythms.
My hand physically can't do that chord. Even if I position my fingers with my other hand.
I have incredibly small hands and I can make the chord, stretch more or somethin
+Jhaller Angle your hand like Misha is, it makes it much easier on your hand.
:Buzzer sound: Wrong!
1:11 lol wink
Why would you point that out? god damn it OCD is killing me now. LOOK AT IT FOR FUCK'S SAKE!
I'm like, ya know, sorta, ya know, kinda perplexed as like, ya know like, erm, tapping like notes like ya know, erm, sorta' like erm..
No, I don't fucking (like) know.
If a cat run offer the fretboard, it would sound like this.
its a real pain heh first even for me ^^
he should work on....everything
it seems people really prefer style over substance. who gives a flying fuck if he says 'like' a lot. he's not a public speaker.
press this pattern for mega dj
45354535 lol
damn Guitar World... seriously!?
No Misha, i don't know.
intro song anyone?
That fuckin' chord >:I
His voice sounds like DEXTER's in here :))) haahahahaha)))
Eric Clapton,Jimmy Page, and Jimi Hendrix know theory...
@wickedexp
What is this? someone with an intelligent comment? and they said it couldnt be done... haha
im i the only one bothered by the twisted strap?
Actually, more like progressive metal. ;)
