  • What's up, people! I'm back with another Big Country reaction, and this time we listen to another bonus track included in the expanded folder for their 1984 album Steeltown, and this time we listen to the "Single" version of "Wonderland," a song seemingly about the connection (maybe fantastical?) between two people, and thus, an emotional place (?). Either way, join me for another cool Big Country song with some great vocalizations by Stuart. Cheers!
Also I set up a Patreon a little while back, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation (and getting a little bonus/behind-the-scenes content) can go here. / shnootz

Here's he's contrasting the hard life of reality, working life, hardship, "winter" with a beautiful landscape, something he can experience and go to with love from his better half.

Great song. Great band. If you have time check out the live version.

I think Wonderland is the escape his lover gives him from the hard working class life during the harsh winters. Just my interpretation

I'm 56, so I was very much a BC fan from their inception and they have to be one of the most underrated guitar bands ever - even Bono has publicly said that he wished that he had Stuart Adamsons' talent. Great channel - it's one of the little joys in my life to see the reaction of the younger generations to music that is vastly superior to today's. PS - you simply must review 'All Fall Together ' from 'The Crossing', one of the great albums of all time....

Great choice with Wonderland!!! One of my favourites by BC. Don't forget the 12" singles were worth it, not for the extended edition of the songs themselves, but for the additional tracks and rarities they came with. Worth collecting for sure!!

Cool, appreciate that insight, and I suppose we'll just go through everything I can get my hands on with BC. Cheers!

This album was recorded in Abba's famous owned 'Polar Studios" Stockholm.I n the music press of the time band members of BC expressed their astonishment on the experience they had there.Btw i'm so glad you are safe Matt.California was hit both by some storm , plus an earthquake or smth?

I bought a handful of 'extended' 12" singles of Big Country's, on the whole they were barely any different to the 7" singles, the grooves were just more widely spaced on the record! That said, I seem to recall Wonderland was a bit more extended.....

Fun fact: Did you know that Big Country in fact have a connection to ABBA? Frida´s second english solo album "Shine" have a song written by the late Big Country front singer and guitarist Stuart Adamson - "Heart of the Country" - a great song! And that Big Countrys Mark Brzezicki played bass on the whole Shine album! Can´t wait till you react to that album and the prior "Something¨s Going On" - two really great albums from Frida! ❤

Mark played drums on that album not the bass. There were two other local musicians that played bass on that album

I don't often like extended versions/ 12". They can disrupt the natural flow of the song and lyrics. That being said, I think that the extended version breaks the song down so that you can hear the individual components. Love Tony Butler's bass.

@@mattsnider2667 That is not good enough. Go and read the story by HG Wells that the name of the song is taken from and give a 10 minute synopsis.

I would recommend moving on back to The Seer and then maybe doing all the extended versions together.
