There is zero reason that the award presenters get to take all of the time they want cracking jokes and working the crowd, while award winners are on a strict thirty second time limit.
I agree. Even when the TGA is one big ad and all, it is still called "The Game Awards". The winners should have all the time in the world to speak their hearts out and show everyone in the world that everyone behind games (both good and bad) are people and deserve to be recognized and considered.
The winners can always say f*** you to the teleprompter & keep talking like Christopher Judge did last year. If it was me I would keep speaking till I was done. What they gonna do? Physically drag me off stage? Lol
Seriously. And it was weird that some of the bigger awards, like best rpg, just get brushed over. I dunno, I still support the show because it's the only really big one we have, but this format will make me stop watching if it's just like this next year.
During the Game Awards it was shown in a very graphical way WHY BG3 won as big as they won. The BG3 CEO stepped up to the microphone wearing plate armor. He thanked his players, his team and spoke about the team members they lost over the years. That was all he ever needed to say. And everybody will remember the guy in armor and what he said in 30 seconds. Google Larian Studios and you will find documentaries about their history, the way they work, the way they got rid of crunch and everything. There is even one with Swen going to Wizards of the Coast to get the BG3 license wearing the very same armor. There is so much more than could have been told in an hour long speech so 30 seconds was just right.
It’s fine for a Hollywood star to waste time on an unfunny joke, but god forbid the winner of the event is given time to honor the devs who passed away and announce the Xbox port. This events highlight how little self respect this industry has and how it’s full of people who are desperate for hollywoods attention.
As much as I understand how we want a nicely jam packed show of announcements and see people win, it really should be the priority of it to make the awards the heart of things and give them the time they deserve. Devs work so hard for so many years and pour their heart and soul, they shouldn't be rushed ffs for ad breaks, or to fit into the schedule of even the other announcements, you can do it when they've had their moment and they should be truly celebrated. It should be a proper event for them, not us and we should just be grateful we get to see it and hopefully celebrate with everyone
I agree. With how much they had to rush things, I'd rather see them do a RUclips video where they just talk about what the year's been like for them and how they're thankful for the support.
@@zuriyel5368I have a question if you don't mind If a studio wants to show their new game on the game awards they have to pay geoff? I mean does that work?

No Rest for the Wicked from Moon Studios was my favorite reveal by far. The majority of the backlash is that the TGAs is getting worse rather than better, where Devs are dragged off the stage in lieu of some Hollywood actor making shitty jokes. Devs are repeatedly silenced while treated poorly, laid off unceremoniously en masse, paid lower than adjacent fields, and overworked, all while the industry has record economic growth year over year. Game Devs also have a clear issue of taking themselves far too seriously and desperately want to be Hollywood celebrities. It is increasingly rare to have a dev that is just charismatic and has fun. So much unnecessary preaching. Love to see a double dose of unionization/good work practices and reality check.

people are only just realizing how over the top the love for Kojima is? I love Metal Gear but I don't understand how people act like he's this mystic god-like figure in the gaming space. He made some great games, but that doesn't mean everything he touches is good.
Kojima is just an influential figure that had a big impact on gaming. I think that people respect him for that, not necessarily that he only makes great games.
I think it's understandable that some people were surprised at the commercial focus. Personally this is the first The Game Awards I've ever watched. Only reason I watched it this year is because of how passionately I've been rooting for BG3 tbh. Something tells me this may also have been the case for others. And yeah I definitely felt a bit weird about the commercial focus, even though I knew about it beforehand. I just expected a bit more attention for the award winners I guess. Instead everyone had to cut their speeches short. Especially the final GOTY winner should get some extra time. Like you could have made the show a few minutes longer to give those people some more time to speak and enjoy their moment.
The problem with a pure award show is that not many people would watch it, so the winners don't get recognition in front of a huge audience. Also, unlike the Oscar, the game awards is available to be streamed for free so they need the ad money to pay for the whole thing, which seems to get more and more expensive every year. I agree that the winners should be given more time to speak, especially when the non-relevant people get so much time in comparison. The venue, orchestra, performances, presenters, video and audio production, flight tickets and hotels for special guests, security, and marketing all cost a lot of money. Geoff tried other formats before but they all failed so this is the best compromise we have at the moment. The show's viewership number rises considerably every year so I would say it is not that bad so far. The question we need to ask ourselves is whether or not we are willing to pay just to watch an award show without trailers and ads. I know what my answer to that question is.

I live the vga man....i just like seeing new game announcements. Don't care about the commercials and shit. How else will they fund a massive annual event?
OD teaser was disturbing AF, in a good way. It’s a horror title, so if that was Kojima’s purpose of the teaser, it succeeded. I’ve seen way worse teasers.
As someone who lives in the UK, I enjoy watching the awards yearly, but, I means i watch from 12:30-4am... This year was very shit. There were hardly any games revealed that I'm interested in. A lot of new IP which looked awful. The final reveal of Monster Hunter was a kick in the teeth too. Very disappointed this year.
Im just mad that spiderman got shit on . They didnt even give em best narrative and action adventure wich they were the only ones deserving to get the awards
Kojima getting 10 minutes for himself with nothing to show while some important awards like Art direction or RPG got rushed through was stupid as fuck. There are also way too many trailers/commercials. By the second half on the event I wasn’t even paying attention to the trailers and was only interested in the awards.
mainstream audience are not going to watch the Oscars style award show. you're just describing a non-money-making show. they're going to have to pick what they want
Wth happened to hellblade 2? Something clearly went wrong behind the scenes cus they showed of a cinematic trailer and announced it before the Xbox had even come out. They marketed it like it was gonna be one of their first big exclusives for next gen and yet here we are like over 3 years later and it still seems to be 6 months to a year away. It’s not like hellblade is some super expansive open world game. I just wonder what happened, seems to me like they must’ve had to scrap what they had and start over at some point

You started off the video well by saying, "I don't understand why there's been so much negativity around the Game Awards, it was what it always has been." But then you proceed to complain about what Geoff Keighley has made staples of the Game Awards. Doesn't make any sense. We all know that it is 100% the Geoff show, and it's those who don't who criticize it year in, year out. Aside from the lack of time given to award winners, I haven't heard a legit argument against them
Idk it's a bit unfair to vall him Wish Willy Wonka. Let's not act like someone 25 and under raised with video games who also happens to be an actor has no reason to be there.
Hideo took almost 10m on stage and we were forced to hear the japanese speech plus the english translation, meanwhile best indie didnt get the chance to be on stage, hope they got the trophy at least xD I like hideo games but they need to treat the other devs with same respect! its a disgrace
I guess I'm in the minority the kojima thing was my absolute favorite announcement as someone who has spent countless hours replaying PT to see something that is seeming to be at least in some way a spiritual successor has me pumped sure they didn't say much about it sure the teaser they used was meh But as someone who has played PT as much as I have and is heartbroken we never got to see it that seems that we're getting something and Jordan Peeles involvement in the potential of avengers of other collaborators which i'm assuming are going to be likely horror collaborators I am so freaking pumped for this. I get it they didn't say much but seeing him walk out of the PT door with that classic sound effect my wife and I squealed with excitement. Also Jurassic Park game set a day after the movie taking inspiration from alien isolation that's amazing
When insonmic choose woke missions, mj missions fans keep saying they don't want and replace Peter in his own game for a 15 hour game instead of more spidey content no awards for SM2
I think slowly TGA will stop being relevant if they continue to go down the path they wen this year. They need to cut out the celebrity "cameos" and musical numbers. The orchestra can play at the end for the final award. They need to cut out the trailers for any game already announced and keep it to just "World Premieres" and giving out awards to let people give their speeches. yes 8 minutes is probably to long but don't cut people off as soon as they did
Their actually growing year on year and E3 dying after the pandemic, the Summer games fest and the game awards will continue to be the best in gaming stages of the world fortunately or unfortunately tbh.
Rise of the Ronin will be huge flop with how bad the quality in their recent games even the textures and asset are copied from Wo long and Nioh are in Rotr
Really don’t like the premise right in the first 30 seconds. “I thought everyone already knew this thing, so I was sorta shocked by it” mentality is disingenuous. Everyone also knows Luke, that it’s a long commercial fest, but that’s not what we’re upset about. We’re upset because some shitty marvel actor is up on stage acting cringe as fuck, acting as if he doesn’t realize what he’s doing is cringe as fuck. We’re tired of the cringe talking stuff and rattling through 5 awards in a row like geoff was in some sort of secret competition to give out the most awards in a 30 second period. We’re fine with some commercials and ads, it’s all the cringe celebrity taking stuff. Fuck the marvel guy, sven should have gotten more time. Commercials are the least of our problems at the game awards (also geoff keeps sucking of Kojima every year which is getting old)
Why can't they just show what's coming with only in-game and who had won. Can't stand the fake lame oscar style awards waste of money and the fake pleasantries and buddy buddy nonsense. Totally commercial advert click bate style mixed with Hollywood oscars. Why? We just want to see games and who won that's it.
i get they needed to show trailers and that's why they rushed people off the stage but goddamn most of the trailers were so bad and really didn't need a part in TGA, AKA all the freaking anime game trailers, it was insane how many was shown
I enjoyed this years game awards. I just didn't like how some of the awards were just kind of rushed through. Some of these small dev companies, the smaller awards is like their GOTY. But ya the trailers and "commercials" is probably what funded the whole thing so they have to get it all in.
Jeff hyped this year's awards up like they were gonna announce the second coming of Gta 6 or something. Outside Blade, OD, and a few DLCs; there was absolutely nothing big announced. Like nothing stood out as something you can't wait to happen in 2024. Pretty disappointing, but i appreciate all the hard work Jeff and the guys have put into the show.
Last year’s show had way better world premieres like Death Stranding 2 and Armored Core 6. I can’t think of one good premiere from this year’s show. No updates on games like Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, or Shadow of the Erdtree was a major L. Although the awards themselves I was satisfied with.

Hush hush and then when you get closer to the release then you go ahead and announce it and then deal with the hostility. Then by then you should be done with the whole FTC also and then you don't have to worry about anybody coming after you for anything else
I don't like turn based much, but if I could afford balders gate 3 I so would play it alot
I live the vga man....i just like seeing new game announcements. Don't care about the commercials and shit. How else will they fund a massive annual event?
OD teaser was disturbing AF, in a good way. It’s a horror title, so if that was Kojima’s purpose of the teaser, it succeeded. I’ve seen way worse teasers.
yes you genuinely don't understand LA Noire's face tech.
Personally the new Monster Hunter game has me the most hyped
they had P presenting game of the year lol
Kojima getting 10 minutes for himself with nothing to show while some important awards like Art direction or RPG got rushed through was stupid as fuck.
There are also way too many trailers/commercials. By the second half on the event I wasn’t even paying attention to the trailers and was only interested in the awards.
The game awards were broadcast as if it were on tv, rush to the commercials
mainstream audience are not going to watch the Oscars style award show. you're just describing a non-money-making show. they're going to have to pick what they want
I love The Game Awards. I pretty much just watch it for the reveals.
2:23 - "It's just OD". Hehe.
I was glad to see Armored Core 6 pick up Action Game of the Year. It was my first AC game and I absolutely loved it.
I need to play again. The helicopter stalled me really bad. Lol. But it was mostly because so many other games came out. Now that I'm done with everything else, I need to go finish. I know I'll end up loving it.
@@adventurous_soles9899 Yeah, it’s a fantastic game IMO. If you’re struggling on the helicopter boss, my tips would be to be aggressive and use your sword.
@bertthebeard2385 I love everything FROM does, I have no doubt it'll be one of my favorite games of the year. I just haven't been so brutally put in my place in a while. It was humbling to say the least. I'll probably jump back in this weekend.
That game looks like spammy mech weeb trash.
Should have gotten Matan Even to present the GOTY. Everybody was waiting for him.
The only moment of the TGA that was meaningful for me was the announcement of No Rest for the Wicked.
Nobody is shocked at all the ads and celebrities. People are just annoyed *again* .
it’s still a rough show lots of things to get better
I under stand with The Kratos Actor taking to long last year 8 minutes but must were barely on 2 minutes and got kicked off.
Wait, how was the Hellblade trailer no good?
I thought I was great. Showed a good bit of gameplay along with cinematics.
Jeff gonna end up on Patrick cc I swear 😂
I was just looking out for Elden ring DLC. Disappointed but ik they putting work so I can’t complain.
It doesn't have to be an amazing trailer .. we just know now that hideo is working on a horror game and that is enough
A talking simulator ??
@@exnozgaming5657it is very clear that it is a tech demo to the expressions and facial animations which will be an added value to a horror game
When insonmic choose woke missions, mj missions fans keep saying they don't want and replace Peter in his own game for a 15 hour game instead of more spidey content no awards for SM2
You're smoking crack if you think the hellblade trailer was bad.
I still can't believe They act like Hogwarts legacy doesn't exist
Did you just call Tim a wish Willy wonka?! That’s crazy lol.
Hes a phenomenal actor imo.
Rise of the Ronin will be huge flop with how bad the quality in their recent games even the textures and asset are copied from Wo long and Nioh are in Rotr
Nothing matters after the gta 6 reveal
Gay thick ass 6
They still haven’t revealed if they fixed the movement of those games, so that doesn’t make sense.
wtf he talking about though like mate Geoff is very good on stage like my man what are you on about
He isnt good at all LMAO
@@blackvalio4060you're right Luke is really dog shit at this whole being interesting in any imaginable way kinda thing
The game awards have never been good ngl
Luke hates Spider-Man 2 some reason he hates all Marvel
Commercials are the least of our problems at the game awards (also geoff keeps sucking of Kojima every year which is getting old)
Mid reveals at the end of a mid year for gaming.
Spider-Man and Zelda losing to a mobile game is crazy
why would you be surprised when it was another huge L lol
Why can't they just show what's coming with only in-game and who had won. Can't stand the fake lame oscar style awards waste of money and the fake pleasantries and buddy buddy nonsense. Totally commercial advert click bate style mixed with Hollywood oscars. Why? We just want to see games and who won that's it.
You be sounding so uninterested
3 hourd wasted wordt show in years 5 announced Cgi titles
i get they needed to show trailers and that's why they rushed people off the stage but goddamn most of the trailers were so bad and really didn't need a part in TGA, AKA all the freaking anime game trailers, it was insane how many was shown
Genuinely thought spiderman 2 got snuffed out of a few awards. At the very least i think yuri shouldve won best voice actor
Me personally I was happy to see it win nothing and no I’m not a PlayStation hater I’m a ps5 player so lol
@@sadmarinersfan8935 Good for you?
Best racing Forza Motorsport??!? Haha Trash
the diss at COD was disrespectful and childish
It felt like a cheap joke honestly. I laughed because I was not expecting someone to diss a game at an award show.
Honestly cod deserves every shit it gets let it be jokes or not
It’s clear you have a bias against Xbox. Pony boy
Why is console wars still a thing. Xbox literally said they lost.
@@brynnleyritchings4903 they said they lost last gen bro. idk why the both of u are trying to envoke the wars bruh just enjoy the games
Cringe
@@shawnthomas6492and this gen they lost in huge numbers they still have better refund policy and game pass first day releases tho
@@shawnthomas6492 they said they might cancel it by 2027 lmao
So much melodrama, geez. The rushing winners off stage was shitty, but everything else was completely fine.
Honoring those winners was kind of the entire point of this add fest...
‘Exodus’ (basically Interstellar: the game) looks intriguing! 🤩
The greatest part of the game awards this year is seeing Sony fans in absolute shambles because Spider-Man won nothing
I mean, they also got free, really good dlc for God of War too
I enjoyed this years game awards. I just didn't like how some of the awards were just kind of rushed through. Some of these small dev companies, the smaller awards is like their GOTY. But ya the trailers and "commercials" is probably what funded the whole thing so they have to get it all in.
it's not that it's not widely known, it's that it was so much more egregious
Yeah he totally miss the point.🤣
😂 Maybe the next game awards they can have an actual baptism ceremony in Mountain Dew and pass around communion Doritos.
people being pissed about spiderman 2 not winning a award in a year with Baldurs gate 3 and alan wake 2 is just baffeling.
Such a waste that the expansion is not called God of War Roguenarok
Is this dude ever happy about any game, like seriously?
Sad about no elden ring but HYPED for more jet set radio
Blade was a nice surprise
Jeff hyped this year's awards up like they were gonna announce the second coming of Gta 6 or something. Outside Blade, OD, and a few DLCs; there was absolutely nothing big announced. Like nothing stood out as something you can't wait to happen in 2024. Pretty disappointing, but i appreciate all the hard work Jeff and the guys have put into the show.
Tbf, most game awards suck 😅
Yeah, i expect cringe moment tho.
Monster hunter is wild for me
Last year’s show had way better world premieres like Death Stranding 2 and Armored Core 6. I can’t think of one good premiere from this year’s show.
No updates on games like Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, or Shadow of the Erdtree was a major L.
Although the awards themselves I was satisfied with.
The Black Myth Wukong trailer looks very good, and a specific release date was given.
@@miragebarrage9748 no elden ring Dlc was definitely a disappointment. I pray It comes out early 2024 because my GOD is Elden ring good, easily the best game I’ve played since probably like, Red dead 2
