- LG is changing things up! And that's a really good thing, for the most part. Where will you land in this new, stylish brand that finally breaks away from the Vs and the Gs of the world? This is Pocketnow and I'm Joshua Vergara - what's going on, everybody? - this is my review of the LG Velvet.

Hi friends! If you're itching for more LG Velvet stuff, you can find more over on my channel :)

@Maddux Amos did they finally updated the camera?
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Morgan Colton Instablaster :)
@Larry Jaxon i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Larry Jaxon it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out!
"Breaking away from the G's and V's..."
Not really. Velvet starts with V...
Touche, friend. -JV
and it has 2 V's
En4cer2K9 g spot
My thoughts as well
And its codename is LM-G900 (sd785 & 768) & LM-G910 (sd845)
G series successor
4300mAh is middle of the road now, dang, we've come a long way
My lg g8 has 3500mah and i still get 6-7hrs screen on time... Id probably get 10 or more with a 4300mah.. What do these people do with their phone to want bigger batteries😅
V50 V50S G8X comes with 6.4" dualscreen + 4Ah battery
This one with identical display panel like v60 deserves bigger battery
Fane Cuffy Probably game or stream all day long.
Just waiting for someone to complain about a 6000mAH battery next year haha
ablackprep To the average consumer it is but now it’s all about the 5000, 5600, 6000. There’s probably some other ridiculous number I’m forgetting.
I actually like how LG handled the rear camera layout and design. 😍
Finally something distinct from LG!
What's different in this phone apart from being slower and just as expensive?
Yeah nothing new from LG here. The only thing new is how they gouge the consumers with the price of this phone.
Offside notch like v10 v20 era would be sweet
@@03Chris25 Exactly, consumers shouldn't stand for this nonsense
@@03Chris25 I agree with your and the previous guy's points, but I just really love LG phones, especially their no-compromise approach on their flagships and their very consumer friendly and super customisable hardware and software (3.5 audio jack, manual camera controls and audio settings etc) and I want them to succeed more in the smartphone department going forwards and become better competitors with Samsung, Apple, Chinese Phone coapanies etc, so they need to improve their marketing approach drastically or else they won't be able to do any of these. So by making something distinct and have a clear and "stylish" approach to this new smartphone lineup will hopefully help them with that and continue the availablity of quality LG phones in future for us! Hopefully....
Regarding the price, it is more overpericed than their previous phones but LG phones are known to drop in price even after only 6 months in the market.
This phone screams STYLE! I love the camera module and that long form factor. Such a sleek, elegant phone. I really like.
Form over function. It's a midrange phone priced at an upper midrange price. Much better phones at cheaper prices are available
@@franklingoodwin Maybe then. Not not. This is $398 outright buy in Canada.
@@franklingoodwin I can underdstand Colin M....price is but a minor issue...all phones having met basic functions...style and beauty makes the owner happy...worth the extra few quids methinks....cheers
Finally, a positive review for LG. Perhaps this is a turning point for them and it puts a smile on my face. I wonder what will take over the V series and how nice it'll look, since according to the booklet, G and V will be replaced.
We need to see the full booklet print
I'd say most reviews are positive. It's just not very exciting for that price
I personally think they should keep the V series
Still complains it lacks what the V series has. Then complains the V series has no style
@@BudgetGamerz Yes, because is it that hard to have a good looking premium phone? Samsung, Huawei and Oneplus manage it just fine
Omg. Jaime Rrrrrrrrrrivera wanted to review this so bad.
You’re a monster 😭
He still is trying to get his blood pressure down from the Apple event earlier this week Jaime loves his Apple products 😄📱
LOL, Jaime really doesn't care about this phone AT ALL
This phone shouldnt be priced more than USD 600
Agreed
There are better $400 phones than this hot pile of garbage
@@hamzadurrani205 100%. Some reviews said using it, it was lagging and freezing up. After only a few hours of use lmao.
Nafis Fuad I would say more like, $500-600, at best.
I mean, kudos on the design aesthetic (esp the rear-cameras array), a selfie cam that’s competitive with Pixel/iPhone/Samsung/Huawei, LG’s full-throated embrace of WACOM (finally! Challenging the Samsung Note series with something far better than the crappy, budget Stylos), and ofc the integration of 5G on a midrange device.
But $750 for a midranger, esp one that DROPS beloved LG features like the quad DAC, and pro video mode ?! IDK what the Korean equivalent of sake is, but clearly, LG execs have been drinking far too much of it.
That price makes no sense when one can buy the G8x for $700 and the V60 for $900 - which LG is essentially forcing audiophiles and content creators who happen to be LG fans, to do.
@@hamzadurrani205 Which $400 phones are better than this?
I will wait for the fusion of lg v60 and lg velvet thats interesting..thanks for the review👍
Enjoying my duel screen v60...2020 is lgs finest year
Looks beautiful and elegant, I've been using LGV30+ for 2 years now it's one of the best to date still for me , haven't felt any need to upgrade as a photographer it has everything a cinematographer need however I would still want to get hand on this beauty 😍 and great review ofc ❤️ as always :)
Slam gcam and ur good
I had the LG V30 and switched to the V40 because the camera quality was exceptionally better
❤ _that green colour option!_
Still sticking with my LG V40 ...no compromise
i boughgt mt lg lmg900tm 4days ago and now the back cover is easy to broke.i dont know if i can change replacement back cover for this phone
Thanks for doing...
About a month ago I bought the LG v50 for $300 , when it first came out last year it was $1000 .
It's got the 855 processor, 6 ram, 128 storage, sd card, water& dust ip68, dual speakers, head phonejack with quad DAC, great screen, 4000 battery and it's got 5g . Never buy LG phones when they first come out just wait and you can get a great deal on a really good phone and the only negative slow software updates.
It's hard for a company to give premium aftersale services (update) when people buy it dirty cheap like low/midrange item
It's bleeding bussiness
@@harysviewty Yep I agree... If LG provided updates in a timely manner I would see their phones as more valuable and buy as new.
My LG phone has the January update and it's now the middle of July and so that tells you everything you need to know about their security updates.
@jonah I brought my v50 for $260 and I love it
they could have went all out with the camera category but for me it is very appealing in specs and desing
You can install lg v60 camera apk to bring more modes (manual video) with better ui (60fps / real time hdr preview, camera switching transition) and better processing (no sharpening)
Gorgeous phone. I bought mine for $150 online. I can't wait for it to arrive.
Good to see Joshua doing the review as his reviews are solid shame though Jaime Rivera refused to review this phone I suppose after the Apple event the other day he still is wiping the drool from his mouth and had no time for a Android phone
I think Jaime said, he's stuck in Honduras and has no access to any phones for reviews. All the reviews since April have been pretty much by JV.
@@_mja It's better that Jaime didn't review this phone. He has no interest at all in this phone
In Spain, there are a lot of covers with, say, buttons at the back to grab the phone better...
Two main problems with Lg phones painfully slow software updates and their software starts to lag overtime. If they could fix those two then I think it'll be worth it.
I'm on an LG v35 and it hasn't slowed down at all
I should know because i use the LG v20 and I haven't gotten an update since 2018. I going to switch next week to a OnePlus phone.
the G7 got android 10
BCTheWooper i got the lg v20 too. That phone has given me headaches. I am switching to iPhone this year.
Lag depends on the device, if you have the budget one it Probably will lag and stuff
When can we see a V series phone with velvet kind of looks?
The V60 is almost perfect... I wish it's wide alnge camera is capable of close focussing to make it a macro camera and velvet like aesthetics not as narrow as velvet though
Being able to use the Wacom bamboo ink stylus is pretty awesome. I wish my oneplus could do that.
Android Authority review mentioned there is significant lag in the device. No mention of it here. I am confused now.
This background music is sooooo soothing
I love your review
I don't get why people care so much about face unlock... Fingerprint has always been more reliable and gets rid of the larger foreheads on phones.
This phone is great. Light and poweeful for the price. This phone is a winner and beats the Samsung A71 5G
Hi Received this phone yesterday in Spain.
I think it's a great phone. Speakers sound good, the photos I have taken are great. True colours, plus you can shoot video with the black bars. which I prefer.
Plus, I can interact with my LG TV , to look at all my photos and videos which look great on the large screen. The 3d feature is also good. Which I haven't seen
before on a phone. Mine cost 609.00 euros.
That Wacom layer on the screen is a super under appreciated feature. Wish my iPhone had it and I could just use an Spen to sketch ideas on it. If it wasn’t for the operating system, I wouldn’t be anywhere near an iPhone
Steve jobs didn't like it
But support compatibility with ipad pen would be great
At least on MAX series
Lol it was a famous dialogue from the 90's movie"To wong foo, thanks for everything, Julie Nemar! "
When the LG designers ground themselves into a beautiful phone and the developers built just right mid-range phone specs,
The phone price was ridiculously set as high as a high-end device by an industrial spy at LG's mobile department, who secretly wants LG to go diminished in the mobile market.
"Perfect mid-ranger, (but) with a mental price tag"
This Phone looks dope as hell
On paper, this phone seems amazing! But the reality only thing that's still going to hold LG back even with this amazing revamp is their UI experience and software update schedule. I feel like some of the camera issues could be fixed in software updates
Great video quality
Awesome that color
Looks good
Where did u get the re case from I'm interested in buying the lg velvet phone
Watching this using my LGV30+🙂
How is the stylist callled? How much is it?
My dad is a diehard htc and lg fan
It's always funny when he bashes other brands
He can finally brag about lg to me❤❤
He can't brag with that weak ass processor.
@@user-th8rw4eg6m The 765 ain't weak, it's just not flagship so not as powerful as the mighty 865 but it lowers the price making it more accesible while still being fast.
@@alvzcizzler it is(ಠ﹏ಠ) it's only about 10% better in cpu and 15% better in gpu than the *snapdragon 675* щ(T꒳Tщ)
@@3mar00ss6 Idk how accurate that is but that's a nice improvement? it adds 5G so not bad at all and the 675 is very decent anyway
C Alvz The velvet is slow and expensive
Solid review
Camera quality is very important to me and that's why I'm returning this phone... I thought I could overlook the difference as compared to my LG v40, but after actually using the Velvet, it's just intolerable. I can't even bother to stick around for any software updates... Unfortunate... because otherwise (and overall), the Velvet is not too bad functionally or aesthetically.
I'm glad LG has stepped up its design. It's clear that this is focused on style over specs, but it would be great to see LG launch a phone with both, especially if they hope to finally gain some profitability in 2021
2021 is G 10 year anniversary
@@harysviewty I'm hoping for a return of the Chocolate branding as a potential flagship lineup. It's easy to market
And where did u get the. White case from for the velvet lg
Face unlock available in the developer options, just turn it on.
Are the manual video still there?
it is now around $360
No unlocked version in the US? I don't wanna wait three months to get the newest version of Android.
You forgot the Dex mode which id possible on the LG Velvet... it's run perfectly
At $250-$300, this phone is a must have. I am pretty happy with the cameras... But then again I've never used a $1,000 galaxy device.
The price tag is a huge concern specially because of the under par camera performance and to some extent the sd. With the dual screen and seeing how the camera performs, I won't mind this at $550. As some brands like realme offers better overall performance at that price range
That white dual-screen case with the neat external display proves LG misses a lot, but CAN make a hit. #stormtrooper #starwars
Hey Joshua , it's still is a smartphone, not a SLR camera.
Maybe you can focus on the 5G and waterproof MIL-810G certification.
How fast is the 5G internet on the LG Velvet, btw?
In my state it's a deal breaker!
Please review this!
To be honest the camera is very very important to me, and I was kind of dissapointed with the G8s' camera. Also the DAC is very important to me as well, I think the G8s doesn't have it I wanted to get the G8 but it wasn't sold where i live at the time. Next time I'll go for the flagship one gen old if it is available to me. This phone looks absolutely gorgeous though, I only wish the screen was a bit wider and not so tall, but I think thats just a design choice almost all companies are running with so I gotta get used to it.
Wow! LG have done it good. But unfortunately I just switched to iOS. Too bad. But I think it’s recommended
Just watched your video.
I have the this phone. And think it's really good I have taken some excellent photos using manual mode. Sound quality is great.
As well as reception. I have compared it with my S20 plus and I prefer this one. The S20 radio reception is rubbish. Especially in wide open areas.
Anytime I mention this phone I just hear pleades for the g line back
I actually liked the aesthetic of the G4. Shame that the software was compromised.
I hope LG will have additional patrons for that beautiful hardware design...but.. for removing the HIFI QUAD DAC...they just reduced their supporters ...including me.
I'll just stick to my V50 & G8.
Does lg still not have dark mode?
All I ask is for a phone with this style, with the pixel camera for photos, with a video camera like the iphone, the screen from samsung, the battery life from a moto g power, and the one plus snappiness.
This phone just dropped on AT&T for $599. Thinking about the Velvet, Galaxy A71, or the upcoming Pixel 4a for an upgrade.
I was expecting Jaime would review this for Pocketnow. 😅😂
Only $750 in Canada which is about $600 American. I think it's a great deal.
Good evening, I have a pixel 3a xl and I'm interested in this lg velvet, what do you think about the cameras? Is it worth the change in all aspects considering audio, battery, screen and cameras?
I'm an LG gcam developer (who pioneered pentacamera gcam for others)
Yes the camera would be so great with gcam
Gcam superresolution works with big resolution sensor
And wide angle in gcam provide wider dynamic range
@@harysviewty Very happy, thank you because that is my concern, I know that the velvet is not up to my 3axl pixel on camera, but in everything else it is better, you as a developer who has more experience in this field, using a compatible gcam with this lg, how close or far would the velvet camera be compared to the google pixel stock?
I'm also jealous I must admit because in Korea the phone is available also at 258 GB
And in Canada we get zero accessories with the phone !!
Thank you stay safe
I am using a S10 im not a huge fan of the curve and honestly i prefer face id over the in display sensor which is why I do not like the single front camera ill take the notch and face id over full screen id like a back display fingerprint sensor i dont knot build it in to the back glass
Wow lg progresses fast. From sketches of the device to an actual phone
Opposite of Sony
But it took them to long from g7 v40 to g8 v50 g8x v50s
are they implementing long term software support and overhauling their UI? then its a no from me.
Hi Joshua, and Thank You 🙂
You're right, this Phone IS Good Looking. And with the Dual Screen Case - it Certainly is Unique !
However, I'm Still using my Nexus 6P, (which I Love), and I Would like my Next Phone to have the Latest Features, hoping it will last as long as my Nexus.
Plus, I'm not a fan of the Notch !
The Singularly Worst Year, was when it seemed like Every Android Phone Copied 🍏(😝), and included, A NOTCH❗
I Still don't understand why ❓🤔
PS, I will Seriously be considering The OnePlus 8T Pro when it "Hopefully" Comes Out 🙏.
Thanks again,

_I'd be all over the Velvet if it had a pop-up selfie camera instead of the notch_ 😀
It is a beauty just wish LG would get away from that notch camera lol
Im an lg fan.. Currently own the g8.. However with the Velvet they need to lower the price a bit since its not really a flagship per say.. $500 to $600 should be enough.. The 600 would come with the accessories like the dual screen etc while the 500 does not.. Or just have a fixed price at 600 or 550 If they at least did this then more people would consider buying it
This will cost the same like a71 5g
$550 without dualscreen active pen
"THE VELVET FOG! 🎙"
why fringe channels like youtube got the device and not mkbhd or ltt?
Face unlock isn’t no where close to FaceID that Apple offers so I don’t see how this is a knock to only LG
It doesn't have any, of course it's a 'knock'
Joshua is too hard on the camera. Its a mid range phone that utilizes a mid range chipset...Getting a "great" camera out of that would've resulted in sub par photos. In my opinion the photos I've seen have been better than other SD765 phones out there. So don't think this is on the level of a premium phone. It is close with the features but as he said its a utilitarian phone...which does everything very well as it should
LG will release The Velvet in July in Germany fpr 599€
I only had 2 LG phones, my beloved Nexus 5 and my current V35 ThinQ.
The reviews are correct the cameras are serviceable but not great, e.g. my Nexus 6P (traded in for the V35) took way better images.
Just my 2¢, RIP LG you'll be missed.
I like the phone, its not meant to be a total Flagship to my knowledge which is why lacking some features is nbd.
Where is the V60 review
I just paid off my samsung A50 do you think it is a good idea to get this phone over what I am using?
whether or not its the beast upgrade out there I don't know, but it performs better than an A50.
That's a no for me I'd rather good cameras
Great review I like how this was done
Is this video from 2018?
Josh $750 is flagship price. To me that's where flagship price start at. In real world use a 760 and at 865 I really don't think that's all that much difference not in everyday use. But for it to have a mediocre camera. Anytime you get past$500 the camera is always going to be a major selling point. Just my opinion
If I had this phone I'd call it Michiru.
Expandable memory?
Yes
We should wait to see the actual pricing in the United states and other parts of the world. If this comes at 600 or 550 dollars then I'm sure to buy this one. Because I trust LG's hardware, Manual Camera mode, Mics, Audio performance and Great Screen and now it comes with extra features so that's a major go for me.
It's going to be priced similar to a71 5g
Like with all LG phones, you'll be able to buy it half price in 6 months
About a month ago I bought the LG v50 for $300 , when it first came out last year it was $1000 .

1:49 who are they? Please let me know
That stylus compatibility is very interesting, is it compatible with other wacom pens?
Does anyone know how good LG is for updates?
Not good.
V50 get android 10 before oneplus (which everone praises)
2018 series still get new ux9 update
It's good NOW
You know what would make that phone look way sexier? SOFTWARE UPDATES!!!
Style with those specs can bring it to the 500€ mark, anything above that is ridiculous.
What's the difference between the 4g and 5g version
The 5g version uses Snapdragon 765G processor, 4g uses Snapdragon 845. 5g comes in 6gb or 8gb ram, 4g is limited to 6gb only. 5g version supports 25w fast-charging, 4g version is 15w. Aside from that, I don't believe there are any major differences internally.
@@harrydrake4173 thanks alot🙏, last question, which would be the better option the 5g variant or 4g
@@keegz1563 I'm no tech expert but I would say the 5G version. Not only is it futureproofed but the performance between Snapdragon 765g and 845 is pretty comparable in daily usage.
I don't like that you guys mention face unlock on phones that can't back it up with proper hardware. Android supports it but it's up to the manufactures to choose if they wanna include an easily foolable face unlock.
Eyyy JK News! Good choice of content.
The video sounded like he was underwater
