Loving yourself to me means having enough respect for yourself to put effort into your life. Very GOOD! You gave one of the best pieces of advice I have heard throughout my 64 years! Narcissistic beliefs aren't something to obsess over. Think of ways to put yourself out into doing something, or helping other people. Just a simple sliver of life. Too much emphasis in life, especially for teenagers who tend to be focused more on self, and sexual obsessed. Life has more to it than trying to push yourself into a destructive choice in life. It seems society has become overwhelmingly narcissistic. Turn the camera around; lose the desire for more selfies. Listen more to what is right and, less on what society has to spew for today.
My new years resolution is just to be a better Christian. That's it lol EDIT: to all the brothers and sisters in Christ who struggle with reading the bible like me. Just know we can get passed this, we may not know who each other are, but we can all pray for each other that we can get to a point where we can read the bible without us wishing we were somewhere else.

Eh. I understand why people make the resolution for dieting a new years resolution instead of "starting right away". It's the holidays. My new year's resolution is to remember writing 2023 on checks and to restrain from going ballistic at the 60 new people who will appear at my gym on Monday who will sit around on stations playing with their phones.
@Casey Chavez That's normally true, but last year the January bump lasted until April. I remember complaining to someone "When are they going to be discouraged and return to their couch snd TV?"
@@ProudBassClarinetist So how does that work, do I go up to someone camped out on a machine playing on their phone and say "Excuse me stranger, but the machine actually works best when you make the weights move.". Is your expectation that they had no idea that is how the machine works and then they'll squeal in delight as they turn off their phone saying "All this time I thought sitting on the machine playing Facebook was how this worked. You have saved me from a lifetime of diabeetus!" and then well hold hands and dance from machine to machine? Do you really think people don't kñow that they need to move at the gym, and that spproaching a stranger as your virtue signal demands would be creepy and weird?
@@stephenshelton4267 It's not that deep, if you need to use the machine, just ask them how many sets they have left. They should get the idea. @@ProudBassClarinetist First off, drop the "don't judge people" line because you don't meant it otherwise you wouldn't be judging me. You are virtue signalling with a statement that sounds smug and superior. Second, my first claim is 100% correct because it is a statement based on direct observation: they will be on the machines screwing around on their phones wasting _my_ time. Now here's the judgment: it shouldn't take a rocket scientist that hogging up a resource that you are not using is rude to other people who want to use it. You daid to approach them, but you also said not to judge. By doing that I will convey the judgement that they are wasting my time, plus it eill get turesome to do machine after machine. I mean it's not hard: if you want to exercise use the machine. If you want to play on your phone go find a bemch or chair and crush all of the candy you want. In January 2022 which is almost one year ago, my resolution was to get healthy and gain muscle. I'm 6'1 and I used to weigh 135lbs.I looked sick and was basically a skeleton. Today, I weigh 182lbs mostly gained in muscle mass (80% muscle 20% fat) . It isn't easy because working out five days a week takes a lot of discipline. I don't have a resolution for this year except keep working out to possibly gain an other 20lbs in 2023. I have to agree most people don't respect resolutions so why give yourself one.
Awesome man!! I set the same goal (get to 200lbs: I’m 6’3” 165lbs now) It’s really hard for some people to gain weight myself included. Just think long term don’t give up, looks like you’ve made huge progress keep it up 💪

I actually agree with the guy about spring being the new year, he was saying because it's cold you have to be inside in more, and to use that time to be more self reflective
It's a bit contradictory though depending on the resolution. He's assuming everyone's resolutions will involve getting in shape or eating when they can just as likely be about self reflection and being a better person. If it's the latter, then it's absolutely the correct time, nature wise, to do that. Then there's the ultimate problem that not everywhere gets cold enough that things go into hibernation. Florida has an almost 12 month growing period for example.
0:28 Jocko Willink made a very similar point in a 2015 podcast that was right around New Year's. It was something to the effect of "if you're planning to make a change, don't wait to New Year's, do it right now". So Matt is in good company on this.
These people really ruined dyed hair for those of us who did it for a reason. I started dying my hair when I found out about my health problems to match the color of the health problem that messed with me/my life the most. When I started dying my hair people could still ask another person why they dyed their hair a color or why they wore something. It was my way to spread awareness to the issue and it actually helped 3 people get diagnosed! It's always been important to me because it took most my life through all the pain and suffering to get properly diagnosed for all my health issues. I've got at most 3 years give or take left and I wish I could teach people more about it.

@@wolfsmaid6815 it definitely is not easy that’s for sure! I weigh myself daily now and write it down on a calendar and that way if I start to go over a certain number I have set then I can check myself and stop from gaining the weight back. It’s a slippery slope!

I tried my darndest from babysitting for her, getting her Hispanic mother in-law to be nicer to her, gifts, play dates, etc. I tried to be her friend so hard. But she was one of those purple haired, zodiac sign fan, young, whiny types and she wouldn't stop popping pills and smoking vapes cigarettes and marijuana while pregnant and drinking... I got worried about being seen around here in public because her she was probably going to be investigated when her baby was born addicted to various drugs and she kinda had a reputation in our small community. I asked her if she was concerned about what not eating and using drugs would do to her baby but all she said was it my body so my choice. But eventually she threatened to rob us and went completely psycho so I haven't been anywhere near her in months. I should have left at the first sight of the purple hair and zodiac tattoos.

The best way to actually love yourself is to love God and others before yourself. Also, love is action, not feeling.
Loving yourself to me means having enough respect for yourself to put effort into your life. You deserve to live in a well-kept organised home, to look good, to have that nice job, and to have those close relationships. So when you put your energy in those things you understand you are not slaving away for others, but for yourself. Because you have standards.
I’m so glad to see another person who finds the cutesy shortening of normal words to be irritating. The one (technically two) that stands out to me is “chickie nuggies” 🥴 It’s not even shorter. It just sounds stupid now. It’s bad when anyone does it, but it’s especially bad when I hear 30- and 40-year-old, grown-ass adults saying it.
@@trembling3674 It’s the kind of thing you’ll hear on Twitter and TikTok especially, sometimes in memes, and then carrying over into real life. I get secondhand embarrassment every time.
"Veggies." I cringe when I hear a nominal adult, or anyone older than seven, refer to vegetables as "veggies."

Matt's definition of 'love yourself' is freaking beautiful. I never thought of that before.
That's it lol
EDIT: to all the brothers and sisters in Christ who struggle with reading the bible like me. Just know we can get passed this, we may not know who each other are, but we can all pray for each other that we can get to a point where we can read the bible without us wishing we were somewhere else.

🙌 Probably the only acceptable resolution!
Eh. I understand why people make the resolution for dieting a new years resolution instead of "starting right away". It's the holidays. It's easier to start and remain diligent with it after the temptation of good food and junk isn't as prevalent. I started dieting last year and found when the holidays came around, I wasn't very tempted because I was already use to it. If I had started a month before the holidays, I probably would've been.
Looking at the state of social media, I really don’t think we need anyone else loving themself anymore then they already do.
Hey Matt! I’m a patriot conservative/Christian and an ex marine. But I’m also gay and want nothing to do with the lgbt… I know you’re very intuitive but if you ever wanna know my insights on life or ever got questions for someone who isn’t subjectively insane I’d love to communicate with you. And tbh I like to hear your thoughts on someone out of the swamp… when I should technically be in the swamp. Anyways I’m a little drunk which is the only reason why I’m messaging you, thank the military for that. Hopefully I hear from you.
That work out clip right there at the beginning hits frighteningly close to home given I’m planning to work out more this year 😂
My new year's resolution is to remember writing 2023 on checks and to restrain from going ballistic at the 60 new people who will appear at my gym on Monday who will sit around on stations playing with their phones.
@Casey Chavez That's normally true, but last year the January bump lasted until April. I remember complaining to someone "When are they going to be discouraged and return to their couch snd TV?"
Why not help someone out and be the reason they continue going to the gym instead of judging them and being the reason they leave?
They might be looking up how to do an exercise, you could help them with form if you have time. You don't even have to do anything other than just not judge people and focus on yourself.
Being rude is worse than "judging" people being rude.
The reverb on Matt's sigh on 2:10 is golden...!
I'm glad you stuck to it. That's great and will help you with other endeavors in your life. Keep that strong mentality. It will serve you well.

"What if I have a job, though?" 🤣😂🤣
I actually agree with the guy about spring being the new year, he was saying because it's cold you have to be inside in more, and to use that time to be more self reflective
It's a bit contradictory though depending on the resolution. He's assuming everyone's resolutions will involve getting in shape or eating when they can just as likely be about self reflection and being a better person. If it's the latter, then it's absolutely the correct time, nature wise, to do that. Then there's the ultimate problem that not everywhere gets cold enough that things go into hibernation. Florida has an almost 12 month growing period for example.
The Persian New Year is on the first day of spring which is more logical than in the middle of winter .

I agree with the purple hair scenario. My husband made a friend at work. My husband said since his friend had a son our son's age, that I should become friends with my husband's friend's wife. She was pregnant again so I gave her a bunch of new born baby supplies I wouldn't need anymore.
