Thanks for all the support, as the above is how i keep this project afloat, as i don't think i'd be able to develop projects like the furby organ and gameboy mega machine otherwise so thanks! :D.
Im giving away 5 component packs, and a DIY modular furby i built on a livestream a week ago, on my patreon next week! so if you want any of that go check that out!

Thank you for making the unobtainable obtainable to those willing to build. THIS I can afford.
im trying to get a CEM3340 chip but i cant find them for under 50$ so its become a bit less affordable lol..
the super simple oscillator still is a dirt cheap build
Lol
@@nyrbsamoht try the AS3340 Its basicly the same chip but around 10-12$
i remember you
you probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
You're the only guy I've found who describes building a module like an announcer talks about a sports game.
What a classic. You're the best thing that has happened to the synthesizer world since Bob Moog. Greetings from Spain, buddy.
Wait, You mean I can build my own modular synthesizer in my house? What kind of wizard are you, and where have you been through all my life? Seriously, there are no words that would express how happy and grateful I am right now! Thank you very much for that, instant sub from new declared fan and disciple!
If you are interested in this topic, check out the "Synth DIY" group on Facebook, tons of people there building synths of all kinds.
@@cabintechgloballlc5337 Oh my God! Thank You very much for the info! I'll definitely check that group!
This is like an alternate reality where Johnny Rotten got into analog synthesizers instead of punk rock
You mean like on Rottens work with PIL? Or his solo album?
Simon Gunkel I meant it more like that he resembles rotten
his band in which he plays guitar would have seemed 100% normal in the eighties. I often wonder what his parents look like or listen to. maybe they listened to 60's music in the eighties and then he was born in the 90s, so there's like a lag. or it's a cyclical thing and all styles are bound to come back which is why I'm being subjected to the eighties for the second time (although this guy is totally amazing and funny). there are so many retro bands now. so you can imagine a musical universe that supports all periods simultaneously. but in just a few more decades, assuming one style per decade, it's pretty far out.

Just started a DIY Eurorack series on my channel. I'm HIGHLY inspired by you to do this. Mine's using kits, though. I'm hoping it'll be a good place for people to get started. I love what you're doing here, man. Seriously one of my favorite RUclips channels of all time.
Collin Furze of synthisizers ... I didn't knew there was an osc. chip that could do 1V/oct. Some analog noisemakers don't care about 1V/oct. others used complicated exponential coverters to get it.
Collin furze of synthesizers... lol true
Nice to see got the lighting sorted for this one.
Man I've watched alot of your videos in my life and I didn't know you did these lessons. Here I am at 30 with 20 years of music experience wanting to make my own pedals and devices. Thank you for making this!
Man you're a true entertainer, i've had a really great time watching this! And the gear works great!
Dude you are the best and my favorite circuit bender that I’ve seen... you are hilarious and remind me of so many of my friends... you are always welcome to stay with me or my community if you ever come to Austin Texas.
This is MASSIVELY exciting! I am loving this series!!!
It sounds so clean and crisp
I watch your videos all the time! As a amateur synth builder you have helped me a bunch! Thank you!!
Love the Channel man can't wait to give my own modular synth a shot . Been wanting to give it a go for a while, this is EXACTLY what I needed to get me to give it a go!!!
I just stumbled on this DIY series and im so excited for more, these videos are amazing. Keep up the good work my dude. Subscribed.
I'm always amazed at what an absolute mad scientist genius he is. Keep buzzing.
I was looking up colpitts oscillators and your video caught my eye. You give a crazy vibe, and that made me watch your whole video 😆👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Awesome, you really spent the time making this stuff, tape as you do, and explained too! that’s a lot of talent there👌🏼
Congratulations on 100,000 subs! Well deserved!
Dude, you rule. I was able to get this thing working on a breadboard easy peasy thanks to your rad-ness
"No Smoke!" = Sign of success! 😁
Man you are my hero! I was looking info to build my own 8 oscillators Swarmatron and...found your channel. Yhis is the best possible begining ! Than you so much for so invaluable info
A VCO on a chip? That is so awesome. I didn't know about it untill now.
Thanks for the video.
brah, you never heard of dco synthesizers? :)
The famous Oberheim OB-X used the very same chip.
Been waiting for you to do something like this. Looking forward to the whole series. :)
Thanks Sam, genius, I finally finnished my TD-616, (Twonk Drone-616 the number of the beast from the original Hebrew scriptures) using 18 of your super simple oscillators, the filters are a bit weedy, but I'll be watching your vids and upgrading them ASAP. When I get a vid of it on youtube I'll share the link. I've never built anything like this before and I wouldn't of tried if it wasn't for your inspiring and easy to follow destructional video's, keep up the good work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SERIES. I NEEDED THIS SO MUCH.
Oh my gosh, this is thrilling!!!! Can’t afford those vintage synths, but now I can try to get that sound out of my DIY synth!!!
Amazing video! I look forward to the series.
Thanks alot for these tutorials, there aren't many people on youtube that explain it in a way, that most people can understand.
I was wondering if you will make some videos where you explain/show the complicated methods of making VCO's, filters etc.
You and Even Kale are by far the most entertaining tech guys I watch.
Nice one for posting this one Sam educational and fun to watch my man 👊👊. POW !!!!.
Love the drill bit tip its cheaper than the supposed proper which pretty much does the same thing .
Extremely happy I found this channel
Lovely indeed! Sam, thank you for essential basics. Lol, i can’t even buy stripboard in my country, now i need to decide what i like less - pcb design and etching or making stripboard out of common board.
Sam, you are so bloody awesome!
Raaaad and super rad on the stickers man. Stoked to see mine made it!
Rowdy resistors.. Your build montages are awesome.
Coool video ! Thanks again for doing those, its a great way to get into modular synth !
World-class presentation! Thanks!
Thank you. Congrats for the content and presentation of your channel in general. Love from Brazil.
Thanks for posting these videos'!A lot of fun and very informative for those of us that love the smell of solder!
If only I had 100th of your enthusiasm.
Youre an inspiration.
I don’t know what any of this is but watching your videos is so interesting!
built it. gonna pair it with another as3340 . bloody brilliant sam.
Whoa! You built your own Braids oscillator! So cool!
I'm going to uni soon, and I might give this a go dude. Sick casual tutorial though man
This is awesome don't give up on this series :-)
You’re amazing man thank u. First time I rly felt like yea I can make my own electronic world of sounds eventually
Thank you CEM3340 video 👍
Working on mine now, tried to create pcb board - 65 x 65 mm size - thanks a lot!!
Great video! Keep up the good work!
Congratulations to 100000 subscribers!
this guy is off the charts
Thank you so much for this video i can't wait to build my own!
Looks like I'll be building at least 10 of these, thanks man. Guy looks around the internet for a year trying to find an easy 1v/Oct schematic for Euro rack. Only because he forgot you were awesome. Sync would be cool though . I can picture ten synced up with a little detune😉
Wow, this is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. I think I found my next project.
Entertaining and educational. Thanks man 👍🏼
haha, at around 4:00 your voice over comes on a wee bit louder! BOOOM! thanks for the upload!
want one of these!! great videos by the way, you rule!
Thanx. I built one with the as3340. It worked right away.
Just built one using the as3340. I get this weird thing where when I plugin in my beatstep pro it plays super high pitch and I cant tune it for shit. did you happen to run into anything like that? Banging my head about where I might have gone wrong.
i tried to build it with the as3340 too but i couldn't get it working... i checked, rechecked and rerechecked a thousand times the schematic and i haven't found any mistake, i also checked my components , they're good.... I'm missing something and it drives me crazy hah
does anyone have tips or common mistakes not to duplicate ? (i'm a beginner if it wasn't clear enough)
thxxxx
@@gillestinguely same thing for me ... I've built three of them and also onr digital to analog sequencer and the cv is totaly out of reference with the tuning ....and the scales are like in reverse ( the higher note shown on the display of the seq the lower note generated by the oscillator) suppose to be exponential but ... welll ... i don't know ....
Wow I've been searching for a simple straightforward VCO like this for years! This is perfect! Gonna order me a butt-ton of those ICs.
Love your work man.
Best soldering video ever!
VCO sounds good for stepper motor control. I'll be looking into it.
I love this and want to try making one.
Thanks for your amazing videos
Man I imagine that's going to hurt taking that tape off. Looking forward to part 3!
This is great! Give us the next one in the series!
I would love to learn from you dude. I mean great would be an understatement to describe how awesome a teacher you would be. 😁
ta-daaAAHH. made it! i now have one of the above! after hours of faffing about with it not working i tried a new op amp, worked right away. i am delighted! at a bit of a loss now as i own nothing that make 1v/oct signals for it. so i am off to make a resistor ladder push button keyboard........
MODS: ok so i put another 100k pot in series with the tuner pot, and now i can tune a much wider range; whereas I was able to find middle C and tune to that now. :D, i got the tuning pretty tight now, i can span more than a few octaves and remain in tune :D so pumped I used a BOSS TU-3 on chromatic using middle c and checking in the DAW with another voice layered over top. cheers
you're very generous thank you 🎛🎛🐛 would love to see an audio level input as a modulation source. like mic or drum machine etc.
Absolutely Bravo ! 👍👍👍
You're my engineering hero.
You're so cool. Thanks for sharing your stuff
Thanks for inspiration
ah beauty - just found this channel. synthesizer love~
There's approximately one word to sum this all up: brilliant! I am going for 1V/octave because there might be three parts (MIDI-CV-MIDI, analog sequencer and the synth part obviously), keeping it standard. Always say "never", I'm not going modular, I just want an analogue mono synth with as low expense as possible.
approximately one word
This guy is an absolute genius
That was fun! Thanks.
Woooooohooooo finaly 😎👍🏻😍
damn, this gentleman is straight up vince noir AND howard moon in one. what a treat!
brilliant
Well done 👍
Best channel on RUclips.
top work
You're the music version of William Osman... except your creations actually work! ... Mostly!
Hatagashira exactly! I've been saying this for years! Well...figuratively. I comment this few month ago because it's so obvious! Some kind od weird colab would be awesome!
Thank You Very Much ^^
I so glad))
I've been waiting so long for a series like this. No knowledge on electronics whatsoever, but with videos like this I'm willing to try. Got yourself another patreon! What tier gets the additional information of the extra features?
Thanks for all your freaky stuff!
So cool!
Lovely
Thank you
Great channel, mate! I'd love to see your take on Thomas Henry's 555 VCO!
You absolute legend
Been looking for a video like this for weeks. You've got to be one of the best guys on RUclips. Any way to get a square wave?
yep like i said in the vid, i will be adding addons to this circuit, this is the core of the module, ill be including optional addons. square wave out + PWM in will be one of the add ons, only requiring another TL072, 10k resistor and a couple of jack sockets. i still need to finnesse, but you can definitely work it out if you look at the CEM3340 datasheet :)
The add on is pretty simple, a comparator on the triangle out (saw might work too?) and the width is chosen by changing the voltage it's being compared to
its even easier, check the CEM3340 datasheet, it already has square wave out, i just figured it would be a simple addone with 1 tl072 for input and output
If we are planning to do the add-on's, would it be worth putting a tl074 in now instead of using two tl072's?
yeah totally. would be an option later on. this just seemed easy for now, but yes. totally. when i do the square-wave one ill plop a tl074 stripboard layout in too
Legend
Great video! Would love to see an lm13700 vcf.
like Get Stuffed but DIY synths- wonderful
Epic!
Your a braniac Sam! genius.
