Chris, let me tell you what it's like as someone who works on commercials. (I've worked on a Geico caveman commercial before.) The Caveman actor is actually hilarious. You'd like him in person. He does a couple takes reading the script, then he does many takes of improvisations, and its hilarious. Then this happens: the very cheesy, extremely normal producers start chiming in. They have to justify their jobs, so they assert their not-funny ideas, and the poor guy has to work with it because they're paying him. It's hard to watch. I've also seen this happen: a really funny commercial script get picked apart while we're shooting by advertising agency people who are literally just bored. They want to start changing little things. They don't get it that you can't mess with the elements of a joke and have it still be funny. Its the balance of timing and words and punchline that all you comedians talk about all the time. Anyway. Just wanted to put a good word in for the caveman because it's not his fault, he works with what they give him. Ehhhhhhhhhhheh.
