Great video Rob. I have never seen a video to cover this topic before. You nailed it. I have handled hundreds of knots and I agree about the Finest and HMW knots. A gentlemen also sent me a very expensive knot that was supposed to be a 26mm HMW for which he paid over $100USD, It measured at 24mm and I couldn't tell the difference between it and a good finest knot from my vendor at 25% of the cost.
Very good explanation of the differences. As for what to do with the rest of the badger, there's an old French recipe for Blaire au sang (badger in blood) In particular pigs blood. You would probably have to do some searching to find it, however. Though, if you do, it's not bad with mushrooms. LOL
I've steamed a shedding silvertip knot from it's handle, which I like. I'm planning to put in a replacement. I had a look on your site, but didn't see any knots for sale. Would you share where you get the good knots from, or is that commercially confidential?
just about every manufacturer gets the badger hair from China. in china they eat them which actually very good. and also the badger population in china is very high. unlike in Europe its protected.
talonlan indeed, I find a badger brush to be a great way to honor what other feel is a trash animal. Sadly in parts of the world the badger is considered a pest.

LOL the badgers don't survive the harvesting process. I believe the reason for this is because they're dead long before that process begins.
yeah this is stupid. the badgers are culled and the hair is then harvested.

@@ginzingtonschnizer2330 Yep, I watched a video yesterday of a guy shooting them in a field. They came off as overgrown gophers or something.
