Great stuff. I do love the cigar boxes with less strings, but it's particularly cool to see a full 6 string one in action, especially with some shred action!
My cigar box that im getting is gonna sound something like yours with TWO double lipstick pickups, and its only 150$! I've never owned a guitar but I fell in love with cigar boxes and hearing you shred on the distortion pedal gives me hope as someone who wants to play metal and folk punk. I gotta snatch this thing up today!
Great creation Brother Southpaw. The neck is absolutely beautiful. I have been thinking one piece thru neck but you just changed my mind. I give it Five Awesomes!
Here's a link to the full sound demo on the Hayley Guitars channel. ruclips.net/video/uR-15D0uoGY/видео.html This guitar can currently be seen in the Builders Corner at Square Music in Colorado Springs, CO. This is the only music shop I know of in our area that features locally built instruments. Stop by and see all the awesome instruments they have available.
I build 3 string cigar box guitars and it's great to see you build one for a competition (though you know 6 strings ARE 3 strings too many)... The through box block is a bit of overkill imho 😆 also, an advantage of 3 strings is you don't need a truss rod.. Nice fret markers.. I occasionally use superglue and baking soda, built up and sanded flat it has a mother-of-pearl look... All in all a great build!! Very precise and clean! And I love all your jigs especially the double yardstick neck/bridge aligner!
Also if you have a 6-stringer just pair up the strings (with a modified nut and bridge) so it is 3 courses of 2 strings (like a 12-string guitar). 3 string/course instruments are so easy to play, whether they be CBG's, Basses, Dulicimers, Balalikas, Strumsticks, or 3-string Banjos
I'm upgrading the neck on my strat and plan to use my old neck on a 6 string box build using a Hawaiian chocolate box, with a similar pickup (mine's black not gold). This video helps me to see how to approach my build. Fantastic job on the neck and rest of the guitar, really good.
I have just started a maintenance job on a campus and looking to get into carpentry, do you have any tips for someone who wants to start making their own guitars ?
I notice that you don't seem to use locating pins when gluing the fret board on. It looks like an easy way to insure that it doesn't slip I wonder why you don't use locating pins?
I've tried pins on several builds and it does help with slipping. I don't like the processes I've tried so far and the extra work of drilling and fitting the pins doesn't save me enough time to justify using them. I will keep trying out different methods but for now, this is the fastest way for me. I just make sure it doesn't slip and monitor it closely until the glue sets.
i don't know if this is new or old, i'm just glad Bonehead has made this playlist. nice cigar box. i don't smoke em so i don't know where you get those.
Thank you! This is a brand new build. You can typically get cigar boxes from a cigar store. If you just go in and ask, a lot of times you can buy them pretty cheap, or in some cases, you might get some for free.
@@homebuiltshop i'm going to try that next time i'm in town. nice work too. hmmm??! i wonder if you could use a piece of laminate flooring to make the top and back? and something for the sides. hmmm.
@@homebuiltshop yep, don't buy them on ebay!! Ebay cigar boxes are around $25+ and then usually another $10 for shipping ... crazy (unless, of course, it's a box you really really want and can find nowhere else 😉)
I'll be honest Jeff, I saw cigar box and I was like "Oh Gee whiz, Really?"👀 😧BUT😧 THIS is a really good looking build, you dont see CBG's that look thus nice. Great job, and a really classy looking build. Now, can you buy your demo guy a ProCo Rat plug in for whatever digital amp modeler he uses so it can sound like real distortion 🤣😂🤣🍻 those Ampfx digital sounds are so bad😉👍🏼🇺🇸
hey i see folks using hinges for bridges on these things so it can't or at least does not have to cost much. there is a guy who makes and sells way more of them than i would think the whole world would needd but what do i know. listen to Justin Johnson and i can only wish i could make those sounds come out of a cigar box or shovel...
Great stuff. I do love the cigar boxes with less strings, but it's particularly cool to see a full 6 string one in action, especially with some shred action!
I never would've guessed in a blind test that this sound could come from a cigar box guitar. Great job!
Thanks. This one sounded awesome.

Looks and sounds great!! Awesome work Jeff.
A really good how to up the cigar box guitar video with great step by step instruction great tips and tricks.
Thanks! I wanted to do something different from the traditional CBG.
Lots of great construction details here. Loved the end result.
Thanks for the video. Answered a lot of questions for me about using this platform.

4 string (tenor) CBG's are the best! 6 strings are 2 strings too many, 3 strings are one string too few.

That is an Awesome Great Build!!
Thank You so much!
Nice. I have an old Strat neck I may use for something like this.
That would work great.
Thanks 🙏! Your videos are amazing. Keep up the great work.
I love the respect of ur saw smart enough to move away from kickback
I smiled like a child when u closed it and that pickup shoed 💪
beautiful build!!!! sounds great.
Great build and all the best for the competition.
Thank you! We'll see how it goes.
I like the super glue tip. Thanks
Love the look and sound when it's plugged in but please give it to me unplugged, as soon that sounds like a cigar box, you got me.
Nice build. ?Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
sweet job
Awesome!
Thank You!
Cool build!
Hello, homework shop. Thank you for your instruction. Could you tell me the name of the company that made your logo iron? Thank you.
I got this one from Budget Branding Irons. You should be able to find their website.

Great work Jeff !! Where can I find the famous double tape at?
The tape is 3M 9579. I don't have an affiliate link for it but I've ordered some from Uline. There are other places that sell it as well.

An easier way is just to use some table salt on the glue. It doesn't compromise the strength, and it "disappears" as it's soluble in the glue.
Very nice :)

Thanks man, thats exactly what I was hoping for, not just another CBG.
@@homebuiltshop Im actually considering a CBBass....never in my life had this even crossed my mind until this vid. You cant corrupt me dammit😳🥸🤓🤡
You should check out Rob Wrobel's cbgs, he builds what I feel are the Rolls Royce of cbgs ...
Awesome
Thanks Dude!
I wanted to build a 6 string CBG for cheaper by modifying my 4 string CBG into a 6 string. I wanted to replace the neck w/ a Fender Neck.
What kind of finishing oil is that?
that's the Crimson Guitars finishing oil 👍
Not that I can afford ANOTHER guitar… but I’m curious as to what kind of price tag would you put on something like this?

Sell it to me sir.. im from malaysia how to buy?
Sorry, this one is already sold.
ciggycaster
That's not a cigar box guitar. That's a guitar with a cigar box added.
Thats just what I was going for.
Why a cigar box? You could have used anything with this style of construction it could have just as easily been a candy box or a hard cover book.
Its a tradition thing, it can be any wooden box you would like to use
You are a very good luthier. But, in my opinion, it doesn't make much sense to build traditional electric guitars on a Cigar Box Guitar body.
Cigar box guitars should never be 6 strings thats 3 string to many a no no no very unimpressed..
