Excellent advice throughout. I particularly liked at around 12.00 minutes the explaining of the issues which can be caused by the room temperature & the need to allow the first coats to sufficiently dry / flash off before applying more coats. It is similar to many years ago when I painted my motorcycle tank using cans of cellulose paint, and only allowing to top to be touch dry before I applied more paint. I must have done 4 or five coats. A month or so later the whole tank had a completely crazed / cracked finish. That was a good learning lesson for me, and so now with whatever type of paint I use I always follow the manufacturers instructions. It causes much stress long term. When wet sanding it's a good idea to add washing-up liquid or soap to the water to help prevent clogging of the wet & dry paper. Thanks for sharing your good knowledge.

Fan of Highline. Tried water and solvent poly's. Water wait time is too long for me, so I prefer solvent automotive clear coat. So tough don't need pick guard. I spray, let dry overnight wet sand and spray. Know many like nitrous for some aged audio benefit, but not sure it's all that important on solid bodies. Plus it cracks over time and old timers using 40 coats on autos learned it cracks bad and the farther the coating gets from base material the more susceptible it is to issues. Solvent bases mandate ventilation and protection but still good idea with water bases. Then again I don't build for production. Hate rework so stick with what works.
Hey! Jeff, this is just great color and job!!! I realy like to see that you build this Thunderbird in this color! It was my dream to see Thunderbird not in "natural wood" color (cuz it just remind me wardrobe with 4 strings). Thank you that you made my deam comes true!))) p.s. thank you for this tutorial!
Looks awesome. Do the pads get softer or harder going up the "grits" of the compounds? All companys use different colour combinations and non of it makes sence to me. Also wish they would just put the grit size on the bottles.

Thanks, I don't really use a specific ratio. I mix the dry powder into some warm water and mix well. Then I grab a scrap piece and test the color. If its too light, I just add more dye, too dark, I add more water. I don't get too scientific with it. Lol.

The pads seem to be firmer as well as smoother and the compound gets less gritty as you go up.

This is the M12 Polisher. Its a pretty cool little unit. It also comes with an attachment for using Roloc abrasive discs.
