  • I get this all the time... "I want to improve my blues soloing..."
Yeah, I get that, but exactly how do you intend to do that?
And, what is "improved" going to be like?
If you have no way to evaluate where you are now, and no way to define where you want to go, it's unlikely you're going to get "there" (wherever "there" is.)

The most impressive eye-opener that I ever had in music in my whole life. That's really really priceless.

By far some of the best advice on soloing. True “light-bulb-moment “ for me! Thank you so much for the road map!

What a great lesson, after all these years of learning and much frustration I finally understand.. thanks sooo much for this outstanding bit of information.

This is one of the most helpful video I have seen regarding blues guitar. I know I have tried to jump all over and have gotten very frustrated and quit for a while then pick it up again. Not a good cycle. I would be further along by now if I just had framed the journey like you did here.

If you know the minor pentatonic, you know the major pentatonics patterns. Major box 1 is minor box 2 and the rest follows suit. Blew my mind when I realized that. Thanks Griff!

This is the information I have been seeking for over 15 years. I'm in level 2 but never really understood how or when to 'go major'. Thanks for explaining what it all is and how to get there.

    Griff ,
You answered many questions about what to play when you are doing a solo , I have asked the questions many times from different teachers and never really got a good answer.
I have a lot of your courses , and I always get the printed versions, I’m 70 and my memory is not the best and the printed version is great for me 👍

I’ve considered your Blues Unleashed before, it looks like it could be money well spent to learn guitar. I’m already at the major guitar site. It’s a good general tool with thousands of songs but information like this I’ve never heard mentioned, it was an eye opener. Although that is simple information I’ve just never looked at soloing in that way... Thanks Griff!

(Sorry my comment is lengthy, more like the column of a newspaper. Normally I contain myself, I just had so much to say!)
I love this guy! Please pay 110% attention to this, people pay stupid amounts of money for lessons/classes that the instructor is just some loser that’s all inflated on his one album that he produced in his buddy’s jam room. He just likes to feel like he’s RayVaughn or whatever poster he has above his amp, Bruce Springsteen or some sh%#. 90% of those people just like to be on the top of the “Who would win a guitar battle” ladder or whatever, egos play probably one of the biggest roles in playing guitar, you will likely not be able to engage with the learning process, and you’ll be out anywhere between $150-$300. I seriously recommend RUclips teachers! I really enjoyed this episode, he is giving tons of really useful, realistically applicable, fun things to implement into your playing.

you really nailed it Griff! And I'm sure you got into everyone's head, and how everybody's thinking. I learned all five shapes of the pentatonic scale I am just happy to make some sound out of the guitar. and it seems that most people are always trying to get you to play at level three and four. for me I'm happy to stay at level one spinkled with a little of level 2 and sometimes sound good I'm 60 years old started playing guitar five years ago. I think learning guitar is a journey that i should've been started as a young kid. can you teach an old dog new tricks?
it depends on how cranky and stubborn he is!

I didn't hear you mention using mixolydian (just the minor scale on whole step above root. A blues mixolydian is just Bm pentatonic).
Not sure if you were mentioning a major scale, minor scale, Dom 7 pentatonic 'mixolydian', moving to each M7 chord position and weather learning say a DMaj penatonic at 5th fret, 2nd fret, or 7th fret was necessary to play say 2nd level in multiple inversions, scale positions.
I have found the Grimore helpful in getting all that started in the begining, or mention what sources might be a good starting point, for beginner or intermediate player. I don't understand why it's such a secret. I have to teach the basics at open mics before playing simple tunes. In my days starting it seemed such a secret... I guess I didnt get full lessons that explained it all....

I always had a hard time playing anything other than minor pentatonic in one key. When I'm kinda mixing major and minor (let's say in key of a), am I playing a minor and a major or am I playing a major and it's relative minor (f# minor)? ALSO, you mentioned only being able to mix them on the 1 chord. Is that a 7 chord?

Great Vid as always Griff! So would landing on, or targeting, chord tones be considered a sub level of level one?

  • @joelfallows7290
    @joelfallows7290 4 года назад +2

Ok. So is there a level 0? Or maybe level 0.5? I reckon I'm still there. It's not a matter of knowing the scales, it's a matter of being able to play with a blues feel.
