      @@hashtagfilm so I guess films like The Ring, Insidious, Ouija Orgin of Evil, The Bourne Identity to name a few which are PG-13 must be for kids. A PG -13 is a warning and people can't just assume that if one PG-13 film is lighter then all the rest must be. Then it is completely on the parents for not doing their research. Same with an R rating films like Annabelle and The Wolf of Wall Street are both R rated but one is clearly more severe then the other in terms of content even though they have the same rating. Not to mention if those parents actually paid attention to those first two Barbie trailers you would quickly realize its not for kids. The first trailer parodies Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001 A Space Odyssey which no kid would get and the following trailer has tons of sexual innuendos.

    I loved it. Barbie was a huge part of my childhood. Got my first Barbie on my 7th birthday in 1959. This movie was such a trip down memory lane. I spent so many hours as a child making furniture, sewing curtains, sewing clothes, setting up a church and dressing all the dolls up on Sunday, preaching a little sermon to them, "teaching" them in "school". I had the dream kitchen and I created alternative Barbieland that was remarkably similar to the one in the movie. Oh, and I still have my original and several dozen more.

    Nah, Barbie and Ken DO have the same plot. So does the mother from the real world. At the end of the movie they realize that they don't have to feel bad for existing in a world that isn't perfect or being in a place where they aren't perfect. There's literally nothing special about "stereotypical barbie" or "beach ken", but now they don't need to have permission to exist. They dont have to be defined by the outside world or material things or achievements or other people. They can just be. Not even to be "whatever they want to be". They can just be. And that's just as okay as anything else. The real world not being perfect is exactly why Barbie decides to live in the real world, because she doesn't need to be anything of note to make a difference or live a good life, and that's just the best place to do it.

    The movie isn't woke. Woke is a way of saying subversively political, ie writers looking for social brownie points. Barbie is OVERTLY political. It addresses the issues it presents head on without any kind of obfuscation. Barbie isn't woke, it's left, and non apologetic about it. It doesn't hide what it is, and it's a better film for it.
    It obviously means certain kinds of people can't stomach it. And that's ok. But it doesn't make it bad at all.
    The criticism of the incredibly in-depth work on the set of Barbieland confuses the hell out of me. Nobody else shares this opinion; how good the practical effects are is one of the most talked about aspects of the film.

  • @dawnya8947
    @dawnya8947 11 месяцев назад +55

    I feel like conservatives are trying so hard to just hate on this movie. I think it was a beautiful social commentary that benefitted both MEN and WOMEN. Under the matriarchy in Barbieland, the Kens felt like they had no purpose but to just "be there" which is why they took power and turned it into a "patriarchy" and it also strongly hurt the Barbies too (although the Kens did do more damage to the Barbies then the Barbie's did to kens) In the end it shows that Ken just needed a feeling of identity that didn't surround Barbie. And for Barbie herself, she wanted to go to the real world to live the real human experience of being a woman, whether that is being a mother or being in the workforce. She also realized that life is HARD, life is full of EMOTIONS. It's all an allegory to a girl growing up and becoming a woman. But I think the movie honestly viewed MOTHERHOOD in such a beautiful light and I don't understand how conservatives overlooked that. Especially during the montage near the end. This movie has a huge amount of satire, so not everything is supposed to be taken super seriously. It's so ridiculous that women's empowerment is now woke. I don't even know how this is manhating when the Barbies literally help the Kens find an identity. The end message is literally that both matriarchy and patriarchy don't work. Also just because we live in a male dominated society doesn't mean that the human experience isn't worth living for. Barbies desire to be in the real world stems from the idea that she doesn't want to live in an artificial world and she wants to be able to experience the emotions and changes a human being goes through. It's not that hard to understand. This entire review is so biased and ridiculous lol. Did you miss the part where America Ferrera talks about how women are meaningful as just mothers, in the workforce, or even both. Did you miss the literal montage at the end of the daughters and mothers? Like be so fr.

      For context, I'm not conservative nor liberal exclusively, but when one side fights for the pendulum to go so far on their side, it's *going to* go swinging back with equal force. The artificial division needs to die out. This is why we're seeing people like Nick Fuentes rise in popularity (and I use him as an example because I see him as truly far right unlike 99.99% of what's called "far right" these days, I mean he's basically an ethnonat). But anyway, not to get too bogged down in political jargon but I both think and feel that it needs to be said.
      Hope you're all doing well, much love and best wishes to you and your loved ones.

    Abigail is so angry in this video lol When she starts ranting about women in boxes I giggled a little bit. Religious people are notorious for their judgmental attitudes and shame of others women especially if they don't adhere to the religious roles they themselves put onto others. That monologue was actually ok just because it had spoke to only a fraction of what women go through when it comes to the hypocrisy that society puts on to others. When it comes to. Ken and Barbie. I never played mother-hood with them. I even had some Barbies have a relationships with one another. But Ken was like a best friend or like sometimes a bf to one of my Barbies when I would change their story lines. But never motherhood. The go ask your mother was actually so funny to me because yeah my mother was raised Christian but hated being a mother. She really wasn't ment for it and I'm totally okay with that knowledge. That's why we shouldn't put pressure on girls when they're young to become mothers when they're older.

      I believe Jesus Christ exists, died for my sins, rose again and through His grace, forgives me constantly for my sins when I ask. MY GOD only has a position of unconditional love for ALL of us He has never asked me to do anything other than to love others the same way HE loves me. That's it. So please know all people who claim Christianity do not fall under the same beliefs. I don't believe we are called to go after those who differ from us beyond prayer and unconditional love. ONLY GOD can change hearts and minds and the only one who knows exactly what should and should not be. I prefer to leave it in His PERFECT hands and continue to do what He has called me to do and that is to love unconditionally.

    I agree with some things you said but disagree with most of whst you said. The point that the real world is seen as bad doesn't make sense because at least the mom (who is from the real world) helped the barbie world become equal. Both Ken and Barbie realized they were in the wrong. I feel like you took the movie too seriously. I mean it’s just a fun little movie that mocks gender roles. I think itbwas meant to be satire and an exaggeration of what men and women should be.

    I would rather see you review old movies. But not necessarily judge them if they're appropriate for kids or not, maybe you could just make that a smaller segment in the video, I'd rather just hear your takes. Having watched the original "Rocky" recently I think it's a masterpiece of American cinema, and I think you'd find the lessons in it very mature and valuable. That actually IS a good movie for kids (or at least teens) for its life lessons despite how shallow the idea of it might sound.
    I think most parents should make an effort to present classics to kids from different eras and use them as a gateway to teach them about the past. Especially while they're young and having formed preconceived notions about old movies being boring or slow.

This movie is so great for young girls and woman that are constantly told it’s a Ken’s world out there. So uplifting, promoting self worth and confidence. And all you can take out from this movie is the typical conservative talking points. Sad that you never either understood or tried to see the real message and the good in this movie. Most prob you didn’t even get a lot of the humor or the references. I suggest you watch it again and clear your mind before you do that.

    I’m a believer. My children and I have a close relationship where I took them to see this movie. Memories as a child with playing Barbie’s and how they were played were brought up here. It was nostalgic. We laughed, we cuddled and I cried in some moments of remembering my brokenness before knowing Christ. I was able to share this with my kids after the movie. Our kids are eventually going to see this. It’s best for us as parents to be their first in many things that this world is throwing out. That’s how we stomp on the enemy with our heel. So stop judging the movie and realize that this world is broken but we too once were and most of us did play with Barbie’s and had that imagination. For the moms who are raising boys this is a great movie to share that even men have questions about their existence and purpose but there’s hope in Christ. Parents let’s use every opportunity to minister to our children so they’re not judgmental but humble and understanding people to a hurting and broken world.

    I am a feminist and a lover of exploring the history of the women's rights movement. I also have serious issues with this movie. Women's rights and is part of a larger social movement that every American supports. Starting with the Enlightenment in the 1700, there was a questioning of the ruling of all societies by an extremely small supposedly God appointed elite of priests and aristocrats. This movement over the next 300 years under many names moved to stop slavery, protect children in factory, extend rights to women, and many other fights, but importantly also lower class men. There have always been conservatives who try to make women's rights about some kind of feud between men and women, but often, the fighters for women's rights were also abolitionists and fighters for extending voter and other working class men's rights. Remember in 1800, in both the US to a lesser extent, and England to a great extent only men with property could vote. The extending of rights to women was just a part of all lesser mortals.
