Says that after explaining that emotions actually run my life.
here nearly a decade later prepping for a test lol
I suffer from agoraphobia (almost 3 years without going out) and I would love you to go deeper into topics such as anxiety disorders and tips to overcome them. Keep doing this amazing job!
FYI, the table of contents have been fixed. Annotations were being weird yesterday.
Hate/love to be that guy, but... the table of contents has* been fixed. ;)
***** iVulgarThrust that's a British English/American English thing, in British English you use 'has' after a plural, but in American English it's 'have' for some reason

It's the _table_ of contents.
Could you do one on Apathy and Procrastination
TheMasterofApathy They've been meaning to do an episode on procrastination, but they keep putting it off.
This is helping me so much for my final in AP psych!
This video made me stressed at the fact that stress makes people ill
according to Descartes you can imagine that stress as pleasurable and done... no more stress
So, it turns out we have an easy time reading emotions in facial expressions, but emotions can straight up kill us! In this episode of Crash Course Psychology, ***** discusses stress, emotions, and their overall impact on our health.
Make CrashCourse Philosophy!!!!
This is AMAZING!!! :-)
Why would Macrophage inflammatory protein induce a lower life rate? They are crucial for the body's immune response, so one could argue that it would be beneficial. Study to back your claims?
"emotions can straight up kill us"
The timing of this subject is, well, disheartening.
Awesome video, I like how you guys make learning seem less tedious!
When you combine Hank and Hulk, you get Hunk.
Nice one :)
XD
Or Halk
Christopher Murray 😂😂😂
*S N O R T*
wait, he talks faster than my wifi...
Over 30 years of counseling and this video alone taught me more than all of my combined therapists.
Both a sad commentary on the state of mental health awareness and a massive compliment to all of you at Crash Course. You are changing my life for the better. Thank you.
(Yes, ,I'm watching the whole series. )
A really interesting topic, very well explained. Couldn't ask for more!
Im from the Philippines and I dont even know that 'that' gestures could get me arrested 😂😂 wtf 😂
So what does the "like" button look like in Greece?
Bad joke. Even after 4 years
Nothing. It means exactly the same as in the us
""""Thumbs up. In many areas of the world a thumbs up signal is interpreted as meaning “Okay” or “I agree.” However, in Iran, Afghanistan, Nigeria, South America, the Middle East and parts of Italy and Greece it is an obscene insult meaning “sit on it” which is their equivalent to holding a middle finger up""""
apparently it is true
No I was not joking, that was a question. Because the vid says the thumbs up sign is offensive in Greece. I asked so what about the like button in facebook, youtube, etc.
I'm a Filipino and the thing about the "come here" gesture being rude and all really just depends on the kind of situation you're in. I'm pretty sure it's NOT something that'll get you arrested for. Seriously, I laughed so hard.
I love how enthusiastic you are during your videos. Help with the learning process.
In Greece ''thumbs up'' means ''thumbs up'', and ''middle finger'' means ''middle finger''.
i heard an open palm is like wiping poop on someone's face
Mika Chan Sailor why did I already know that.
Yes it's true.. The open palm gesture is quite rude.. I am greek
The middle finger was only adopted from foreign culture. The "moutza" (open palm towards one's face) is the more traditional cussing gesture! As for the thumbs up, I've lived in Greece and never heard of the thumb as a bad thing!
One of my favorite shows! love everything you folks put together at Crashcourse. Keep on keeping !
I have always been told that our stress levels and emotions can interchangeably affect each other, but I had no idea that they could influence our health. Lately I have been pretty stressed out due to finals coming up, but it did not occur to me that they could be causing some of the physical headaches that I have been experiencing as well. With this new understanding I will be keeping a closer eye on my stress levels to do anything that I can to lower them and hopefully making it so that my health is a little better and possibly a little more pleasant to be around which will benefit everybody.
"Introverts are betting at reading others' emotions while extroverts are better at expressing them." I don't mean to brag, but I've gotta ask, can you be both an introvert and an extrovert? When it comes to reading emotions AND expressing them, I'm bad at both!
No. As far as I know, you can't be both. Also, I'm an introvert by that definition.
I should note in addition to what these other people have said. this is a tendency not a definate "if you're a then you are good at b". type of thing. also reading and expressing emotions can also be affected by other things.. for example humans during their teenage years have a tendency to be at their worst at reading emotions and expressing their own accurately. which can lead to the stereotypical "no one understands me" thing
Yea, you're an ambivert.
Hahaha omg I thought this was going to turn into an introvert bragging about how they're "On a whole other level" but this is great. Yeah, you might be ambiverted.
+everyone
OK, I misunderstood something.
Crash course has defiantly improved! Love the graphics, topics, and change in background for this series :)
HANK - This is why I love you. I have a constant need to understand this swirling ocean of a brain ;) THANKS for learning us!
Thank you for making all of these videos, this is really helping me with my psychology class. :)
So Inside Out actually needed 10 characters in our head O:
if they ever do an inside out 2, they might add those characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
While viewing this crash course video I have learned a lot. What I found
interesting throughout this video was that Emotions, as well as personality,
attitudes, behaviors, and responses to stress, can have an impact on our
overall health. I personally feel that stress has to biggest impact on a person’s
health. These stressors may include, daily hassles, life changes, and catastrophes.
This video brought light to my eyes about how and why becoming stressed can
cause many problems throughout life because it is so much that comes with it
You guys have no idea how much this Video has helped me.
Thank you.
Lately I've been suppressing many of my emotions - like sadness, anger, anxiety etc. - thinking that if I felt them, there was something intrinsically wrong with me (I don't know why tbh). But in time, I came to realize that is not the case at all. They are there for a reason: feeling them, appreciating them as you said, and then, if they're too overwhelming, just trying to calm down is the best thing you can do I guess. I like your videos, your explanations are very clear! Thumbs up :D
These videos are going to help me pass the AP Psych test without taking violent action against myself.
+kaytlyn knight "[...] without taking violent action against myself." Jeez, that escalated quickly :'D
Wonderful healthy information. Amazing details. Great work.
This channel is so good! Thank you for the fun high quality information! You are superb in your delivery!
I WILL NEVER UNSEE 2:17
You made me skip to it.... YOU MONSTER
MUHAHAHAHA
hehehehe it's cute
Hey Hank, Good topic. Stress can kill! Life without stress means you are already dead. Learn how to finesse the stress. Not an easy thing to do and it's different for everyone. Good luck! Finding your own path. Thanks.
This CC series is amazing!
Stress, anxiety, and depression are caused when we are living to please others.”
-Paulo Coelho
Pretty sure appraisal is spelled, well, appraisal. 5:26
Hi, Love your content and have been watching it for ages. A suggestion (certainly not meant to belittle the amazing work you do at CrashCourse) would be to reference your studies, experimental reports, ect. I was just watching Healthcare Triage (another RUclips channel) and was impressed by the ability to verify information. While this is not necessary in many cases such as crash course history when it is possible it would great. While we can trust you at CrashCourse we cannot trust all information and so getting people used to check facts and reading the evidence for themselves will go a long way to creating a smarter world population.Keep up the great work.AH
This is exactly what I have to learn for my biopsychology exam, thank you for the clear explanation!
I have an anxiety disorder and depression and hearing about how sadness and stress can impact my life span and health so significantly did not help me feel less afraid or sad
I love these videos. They are so enjoyable to listen to it actually makes learning about psychology very interesting and "fun". I wish my class used these more of these videos as I have learning disabilities and I can "understand" what is being said, unlike our reading material that seems like it for someone in Psych for 3 years should know. My Intro to Psych is "not" an intro class, it is like a 2 or 3rd year class! I do not understand anything that is going on, being said period. Sigh.....
i get stressed out really easily and this video stressed me out about "stress and disease going hand in hand." great
One of the first items I displayed in our dining room at the start of my little ones' homeschooling day was the feeling & emotions poster. It served us well.
Love this series! Taught me just as much as the introductory psych course at my ridiculously expensive private college! Great...
any episodes on anxiety disorders coming up?
I hope so
Oh I hope not... that would be disquieting.
Now you've got me nervous that there will be.
Yes :)
Yes! :)
Nick J.
Thanks, Nick, you guys are amazing!
6:11 Da heck?! I'm watching this while prepearing for my chemistry test tomorrow morning!!
Your videos are really helpful! It helps me understand things more :) thanks! :D
So many interesting things to learn! I just love this series =)
I really like your channel very informative. You indeed do a great job of spreading compassion to others 1 salute keep doing more vids
Loved the shout out to MJ's Black or White video lol!
I am so in love wit this guy! He is awesome!
The timing of the video is so surreal. Take care everyone
this episode has explained the subject better than any therapist or doctor I've been to. as always, thanks guys 👍👍👍
hank's face at 7:52 is priceless
This was great! Thank you for the video!
I always find these so interesting! thank you!
Emotions is what humans live with, no matter what situation and the worst we deal in our lives, is stress, whether from finance, from education or anything we deal in our lives but to combat these situations, mostly stress, we find what benefits ourselves for a good life but however, we'll still live with it but we must remember who we're dealing with and beat it to prevent a loss in life.
WISH WE COULD TURN BACK TIME
TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS
WHEN OUR MAMA SANG US TO SLEEP
BUT NOW WE'RE
STRESSED OUT
bruh it's quarantine i wanna kill meself
Thanks for the last bit about feeling and appreciating your emotions. That little sentence put a smile on my face, I hope to remember that if my depression hits me hard.
thank you so much Mr. Green you save my life every day
Oh boy this helped my depression! Now i know even if i dont take my own life, i still probably will die early and painfully because i dont know how to perfectly control my emotions.
I was wondering if you could do a video on movement disorders and Tourette Syndrome? I live with TS and it is very misunderstood. You have a lot of views and followers, and I was hoping a video by you can help raise awareness.
Thanks for your time!
I love this man ! thanks for the Advice at the end!
Could u do an episode about pain and why our precision of pain is not always the same. Thank you! I'm studying nursing and your videos really help me to understand things better!!!
Inside out!
RIP Mr. Williams.
I always looked up to you, and now I know what you were going through.
Thank you for making me laugh.
This video made me subscribed. Thanks
I am using your video for my paper, thanks for making it.
You guys should do a video on adhd and attention disorders
Yes I would like to hear about my disability ADHD.
Rosa Flora adhd is more of a disorder than a disability
RIP Robin Williams you will not be forgotten!
what are you doing with your life?
this helped me so much
Love your work it helps me study further into my uni topics
Ok, I know this one very, very well, in a short term, mid term, and long term way.
Short term- after a forcible rape in 1987, I peed enormous amounts for the first 24 hours, which my doctor said was a pretty normal response to that level of trauma. I also couldn't eat for several days. This was a problem, because I was nursing a 7 month old baby at the time. we survived. (And we secured a conviction.)
Mid-term- Five years ago, my younger daughter's mother-in-law tried to take custody of her twin daughters. It was nothing short of (excuse my language) a clusterfuck. We fought tooth and nail in court for three months. She won, and had them for 18 months. It was horrible. (We continued fighting, and eventually got them back I had to get my state senator involved, as the state agency was not even following their own rules) After three months of sleeping on their sofa, daily struggle, and crying with my daughter, I had to go home, sleep in my own bed, wear some different clothes, etc. And three day after I got home, I had a heart attack. My cardiologist said it was the clearest case of a stress-induced heart-attack he'd ever seen. And now I'm on long-term cardiac heart meds. Thanks/no thanks, Cyndi. :-P
Long-term- I've had a lot of long-term stress- my marriage failed, and I went back to school to try to give my kids and I a better life. So there I was, juggling classes and parenting, and it only got worse when I went into grad school and they went into high school. A relationship I had as an undergrad didn't work. As the stress built, by health went down. me blood pressure went up. I struggled with depression I was eventually diagnosed with bi-polar disorder type 2 (it runs in the family, though usually type 1, so I got off light). The workload got heavier, I got sicker. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
Eventually I had to drop out of grad school.. I worked for awhile, but the fibromyalgia got worse, the heart problems got worse, my asthma got worse and I developed a serious lung condition called sarcoidosis. I ruptured a cervical disc, and now I have neurological issues. So yeah,I'm on disability. And the huge amount of medical stuff is stressful on its own, but I also have financial problems because of all of it. :-(
So I'm a walking advertisement- stress is BAD FOR YOU. Don't underestimate it. Do everything you can to reduce it. and if ou can't, make sure you get plenty of support. It can make a difference.
+Laura Minnick Fybromyalgia? Don't believe the doctors, I was diagnosed with it because the doctor was an arrogant dipshit who didn't wanna admit he had no clue what I actually had (case&point he once diagnosed me with leukemia to explain away many of the symptoms fybromyalgia wouldn't have explained). It was only years later after having to be in the kid's cancer ward for almost a year that I got to a better doctor who finally gave me the diagnosis, Syringomyelia. I suggest you get more doctor's involved so they can give you a more precise diagnosis as Fybromyalgia is often used as a sort of "crutch diagnosis" when a doctor isn't able to make a precise diagnosis. Anyways it's terrible what happened to you, good luck and have a great day!
+Jason Neu Jason, I've had several doctors concur with the diagnosis. And it wasn't an arrogant dipshit. In fact, my primary care doctor sent me down to orthopedics and sports medicine (I was at university then) And after scratching their heads for a couple of hours they suddenly decided to do the 18 point test, and bingo! 17 points.
Later, after I moved, two different doctors did that tests and others, and came to the same conclusion. Thanks/no thanks for the armchair medical assessment.
I wish your pain gets eased.
I'm stressed just watching this.
Nice summary of an important topic. Thanks!
THANK YOU SOOOOO much for doing this. I'm presenting on this and could not find a good clip that I have to have and I was going to give up till I found this. It also helped me to understand what I'm presenting on. excellent job!!!
there's a loop hole to all this and that what i have witch is something called Asperger's Syndrome witch means the natural understanding of emotion is not a thing for me as an extreme example for instance as a child i had to memorize what different facial excretions ment in the same way someone might learn a second language of course by now my understanding has increased but is still knowledge not understanding but all the same this was interesting
So, essentially, you're telling us to stop stressing, because stress kills us (which is a very stressful thing to think about). OK, seems easy enough!
Thank you for this video!
This is great! Thank you so much!
All these emotions remind me of the movie Inside Out
On basic emotions, I do believe that the list has been reduced since the 1970s to 4 basic plus two reactionary. Anger, Joy, Sadness, Fear are basic, with surprise and disgust as reactionary all found in infants. Guilt, shame, excitement and contempt are not basic emotions but rather complex emotions Guilt/shame for instance is sadness or anger plus disgust at yourself. Excitement, joy and the element of surprise. Contempt is disgust plus anger or fear. The 4 plus 2, method is actually testable on infants, good luck on trying to test shame/guilt and contempt - which can be learned rather than intrinsic.
This really help me to learn about mental health and I really like your videos!
I am using your video for my school report in our Psychology Class, thanks for this!
He got me with the chemistry test
Speaking of stress *****, you run three shows here on RUclips (that I'm aware of) and on top of that you head a band... where and how do you find time to unwind?! I couldn't do it, I'd go totally bananas with your work load :)
thank you very informative! love your videos!
Love the videos! Thank you guys
Hank was wrong about the thumbs in Greece - it means well done, good job, it's very positive. It's not offensive.
1:07 I'm a leaf on the wind.... watch how I soar
We were so tempted to animate that!
Thought Café I request every episode from now on have Firefly references.
This, is completely great.
Great video as always
I'm stressed 24/7 because of school..... it's to the point where I break out crying everyday. what the hell do I do????? I tried breathing taking breaks ect. but nothing is working
Emily Carlson do some research on it instead of asking for help in a comment section.
You don't think I have? I've done many things, including therapy, and nothing is working. I asked in case anyone else went through the exact same thing and learned how to deal with it
Emily Carlson well sorry I don't remember making this comment but maybe you should see if you can go to a school counselor and figure something out.
Thatrandogirl is awesome it's fine and I tried. I actually have a doctor's appointment to possibly get medication
Emily Carlson I will recommend for you to watch Dr. Caroline Leaf video on RUclips about stress. She talks about how we can train our brain and teach ourselves how to better be able to handle stress. She also talks about how spirituality/relationship with Jesus can help with stress a lot as well.
>Emotion and stress
Wow, that episode is right on time! ...
Rip Robin ;_;7
Thank you Hank!
Thank you for ths Crash Course.
8:50
Great. I'm gonna die before everyone else my age.
no actually because you acknolwedgin you feel stress is direct correlation to the opposite.. meditation and exercise helps lots..
I'm an introvert and not to toot my own horn, but I've noticed that I'm better than most of the people I know at reading emotions.
I'm not an expert, but it probably helps that us introverts spend more time observing people and how they interact than actually doing it ourselves.
Agreed :-)
I am taking notes 🙈 As with All of Crash Course...
before studying for my AP Psych tests, I recap shit by going thru these vids. awesome content, keep it up guys
