There's interviews where they explain what actually happened and the storyline that WWe put was overblown for entertainment but so called fans believe everything that wwe put in their programming lol , throwing adult toys at her and shit like that .... a lot of backstage shit went down with others that wouldn't be tolerated with nowadays, it's all on RUclips (others complaining of how employees , especially women were not treated professionally .

Edge was a superstar before and after her, Lita was a pretty average wrestler with zero personality. It's not rocket science.
It's 100% a double standard that Amy still gets shit for the affair but Edge doesn't. 17 years later and we're STILL talking about it? Like, come on. That's ridiculous. Give Amy a break and move on people. Literally ALL three of the people involved in the incident have ALL moved on and don't care about it anymore.

Edge benefited the most from this scandal as his career skyrocketed afterwards but yet he's worshipped by the fans.

Lita is still one of my all time favourite wrestlers not just female. Her skill stands out and deserves respect for it.

I love how this conversation really gets to the heart of the nature of sexism today. No one is condoning how Amy conducted herself at the time. But the consequences she suffered for those actions went far beyond anything that Edge, who was just as responsible, had suffered. Glad that Lita and Renee are speaking truth to power on the subject, and I hope Lita knows how much her fans support her!

That ending felt so uncomfortable and Lita is clearly not over it. You can tell it still really bothers her & I wonder how much she thinks what could have been with certain things. I truly hope she's somewhat at peace with shit.

I don't know how anyone expects fans to stop talking about it, when Lita herself is drawing even more attention to the whole debacle on Renee's podcast. Lita shouldn't have even entertained this as a subject of discussion-if it apparently still bothers her so much. I honestly don't think she cares though; which is why they are able to talk about the double-standard issue . It's definitely water under the bridge, and I think Lita knows that.

Edge got married, Matt got married and she hasnt and probably won't. WWE played her in the sense her image was damaged when they ran with the storyline . She came off as vindictive and disloyal with the blurred lines wwe used.

Tbh, I always forget about that part of her life and career. I always remember her amazing matches. She’s greatly missed in the ring.
Renee is so understanding here, I've always loved her but I feel bad for Lita. Yes what she did was a bad thing but she knows it and the abuse she continued to suffer from because of it was uncalled for. Edge got off scott free and you can't argue that, he was just as guilty but paid no dividends for it while Lita got humiliated and treated like dirt. It was also something that happened YEARS ago and the fact that people still bring it up is ridiculous, Lita was a driving force for the Divas division and she deserves better than to constantly have her affair brought up instead of her accolades while no one ever mentions it to Edge.
Edge did “pay” at the time, he was given tons of abuse too, I think the issue they are taking about is that Lita still does. Edge and Lita did immediately admit they handled it badly and apologised to Matt but Matt chose to abuse them on the Internet and literally encouraged his fans to harass them. That got missed in the pity parade for him in 2005. He also filmed himself committing acts of disturbing violence on a Lita cut out. He said he hoped Edge died on live TV. His brother said he was controlling. That is not to say they handled it right but Matt was not innocent. Another couple of things - Edge, at the time, was used to being a heel and used to taking massive heat of fans so was probably in a better place to utilise it, it was genuinely a new experience for Lita and Edge is by far a more confident performer in terms of outside the ring. Secondly, we have watched Edge and Matt grow and move on, we’ve seen them date, marry and have children with their wives whereas Lita has been a lot more out of the public eye for fans to see her “moving on” story, the prevalent memory of her is still then because she’s not as in the public eye. But yeah, nobody should have been interested then, it was a personal situation and everyone should drop this shit now, everyone involved got over it a long time ago

Everyone behind the scenes hated the fact that HHH was dating the boss's daughter. Wtf are you typing about? Both have admitted this. Taker's done interviews where he talked about it when asked. Even Vince himself didn't approve but let it slide because it's what Steph wanted.
The problem here is not sexism. Yes, Edge was a scumbag, but Matt didnt sacrifizr anything for Edge, while he sacrifized much for Lita. Also, the fact Edge also dumped Lita made the fans hate him less. I assure you, of Edge and Lita were still together, Edge would still be hated to this day.

I never cared for Edge because he was the only one that benefitted from what happened. Lita got shit on while Matt was never the same in WWF though he cleaned himself up years later.

Really do wish Lita stayed in WWE and in wrestling cause she is one of the greatest wrestling characters of all time and honestly still my 2nd favourite woman's wrestler.

The part I remember was Edge vs Cena storyline when Cena constantly just slit-shamed the shit out of Lita. Like in one sense Cena was really funny in how he insulted her and I'm a Cena fan so I'm biased, but like it was too much. It seemed like Lita felt genuinely bullied in those instances.

That was such a crazy time and there is definitely a double standard.
so? Start complaining about women getting free drinks at the club and not having to pay for dates than.
What do they mean by narrative? She did actually do those things and people were right to be upset with her. I mean I fully support the idea that everyone should move on and she should definitely forgive herself if she's in a better place but, if she's sitting there decades later and still acts as if there's another whole layer to the story that would change people's mind about it, I'm not convinced that she even is in a better place.
Miss Amy Dumas (Lita) has always been one of my all time favorites, one of the most exciting performers of all time. I never agreed with the whole idea of taking an uncomfortable time in her personal life and turning it into a story line, I understand giving the character more depth by adding some real-life drama into it, but that was too much, and I felt bad for all of them being dragged through the mud at the time. I love you Miss Dumas, and you're right, there is a double standard, and you bore the brunt of it in that case, but that will never change my opinion. I knew there was something off about that storyline. Especially from the fans, Why did Lita catch majority of the backlash? Yes, she handled it wrong by cheating however Edge equally had part in it as well. Edge career shot to the top while Lita dwindled. WWE and fans did Lita wrong, BIG TIME!!!

@ATrain I never looked at it from that standpoint which I agree with. I understand he was a Heel, they've ment to be hated however Edge used the cheating scandal as leverage (which worked) so at the end of the day that whole situation was beneficial for him.

I was a huge fan of lita during the time, I ran a fansite, it was like firefighting against trolls with real perspective of it not actually being a huge drama, just a thing that happens.
I loved heel Lita, she was sexy and violent, she added so much to Edge developing into the great heel he became. It reminded me of how Sensational Sherrie helped elevate Macho Man once he turned heel. I loved how WWE was able to take this real life situation and use it as a platform to elevate their talent. I dont care about her cheating on Matt Hardy, that was none of my business.

Edge got a lot of sh1t for a long time but Amy cheated on her boyfriend with one of his best friends and got him fired because he wasn't as over as Edge. People were annoyed because Jeff got released and Matt was dealing with being injured knowing his brother was going through hell at home and let his girlfriend travel with his friend and the stabbed him in the back. If Jeff never got released for the drugs then Matt never would have been released.
NO lets not forget edge was a married man and lita did not get matt fired matt slept with one of his friends ex girlfriend and the firend who use to work at wwe told wwe that matt slashed edge tires when it was a fan who did it. Even though he was separated, the fans were attacking him a lot on social media and yelling at him at events. Same with Sammy Guevara in AEW when he got with Tay Conti. When Sammy got with Tay, like so many fans blasted him. They were legit giving death threats and whatnot over some girl they didn't even know and just assumed Sammy left her for a hotter girl. It was a mutual falling out but fans just assumed because she wasn't very attractive conventionally and obviously Tay is a smokeshow, so in their minds, he just ditched her. Even if that was the case it still isn't anyone's business but theirs.

And the story fans got was Lita cheated on Matt with edge.

Honestly, I can’t be mad at Punk or AJ about that. According to AJ’s autobiography, there had been attraction between them for a long time, they actually stayed away from each other an entire year because of it, and finally, they decided “the hell with it” and got together. They’re happily married now while Lita was engaged last I heard, so it worked out for everyone.

I remember this whole ordeal. And I remember thinking that WWE was in such poor taste for taking a personal situation and turning it into a story line. It really is a double standard. As women, people have this assumption that we should have known better and that we're a sl*t or something if we think of sex the way a man does. And yet, men are rarely held accountable for their actions in the same situation. People really placed all the blame on Amy but didn't factor in Edge's part in everything and even factor in what was happening with Matt as well. They all played a part in this ordeal and are equally responsible. The fact that people keep harassing her over it 17 years later is bullsh*t.

I understand not wanting marriage because I myself, have no care to get married again or even date. I don't think the cheating had as much of an impact as one would think because it has become so common in this day and age. Double Standard? I distinctly remember Edge being called out on every show for “Screwing Matt”. He also got exiled from the locker room I heard. Also he was his friend but you were his girlfriend. Much different. Edge was a prick for cheating too.
The first time I heard Edge talk about it was in his Decade of Decadence DVD. I remember him saying that people felt that he was just like his onscreen persona in that he felt good that all of this happened when, in reality, he didn't. It did eat away at him.

There’s a clear double standard. Edge dealt with “heat” for like a year after. All the while being shot up the card and bagging multiple world championships. Meanwhile Lita got publicly shamed and humiliated in every segment and match she was involved in. They even fucked her over during her retirement. One of the greatest to ever do it and they treated her like shit. Not to mention the legions of “fans” who still give her shit about it today as if what happened to Matt Hardy affects them in any way. And not to bag on people but Matt Hardy and his wife beat the shit out of each other and wrestling fans act like it never happened. Crazy that cheating is a big deal but domestic violence isn’t.

It was ironic, she came in as a manager but was seen as a wrestler - As opposed to Trish, who people wrote off as just a Debra type character. then coming back after injury she was put with Matt again to keep her fresh as Trish was more in the division with the belt. Then the Kane story which was a big deal, then Edge… although her injuries didn’t help, she was packaged with males in the midcard most of her career - in early 2001 she was more over than Chyna ever was - the crowd chanting Lita as she stood ringside amongst stars like stone cold and the undertaker - she never even needed the belt

I agree. Lita definitely deserves her flowers. Trish was showered with them in her last match in 2006 and again versus Charlotte in 2019. Lita was every bit the pioneer that Trish was and more. Because of her, women like AJ Lee, Sasha Banks and Bayley were inspired to come into the business. And yet she was repaid for her years of service with the most disgraceful sendoff in the history of the company. She should be remembered for her accomplishments inside the ring, not something almost 20 years that happened behind closed doors that only internet nerds and nothing-happening losers care about.
Hopefully she may eventually get the real sendoff someone with her trailblazing career has earned.

I feel bad for how WWE and the fans treated he during her heel run which is still underrated and they were wrong for turning this into a storyline. I still respect Lita and she’s a pioneer female wrestler but she has to stop playing the victim and needs to understand that she brought that to herself because she made that decision to cheat. Matt deserved better. She damn near ruined him and Edge’s friendship and Edge’s first marriage. She is still affected by this while both men have reconciled their friendship and are happily married with beautiful families. I still love her and at least she is finally getting the proper respect she deserves.
